Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Society– Open Show – 7th August 2019

Judge’s Report – Mrs Maureen Taylor (Maursett)

Firstly, my apologies for the lateness of this report but, as some of you may know, my husband has been seriously ill so other matters took priority.

Many thanks to the officers and committee for the invite to what proved to be a friendly and well run show. The exhibits were overall of a good quality and the exhibitors took my decisions well and I was very pleased with my winners. 

Labrador Retriever Puppy (3 Entries 0 Abs) 1st & BP Jones’s Serengoch’s Chevrolet (AI) Pretty bitch, square and had level topline. Scissor bite, correct tail set and balanced, moved well, true fore and aft. 2nd Baker’s Silverbriar Rowena. Another pretty girl with a sweet head and expression, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Moved well when she settled. 3rd Stewart’s Warringah’s Ora Banda with Streamanda

Labrador Graduate (5 Entries 1 Abs) 1st Pegg’s Jancet Aurora. Another good bitch of correct size and shape. Deep chest and spring of rib, short coupled and moved well. 2nd Phillip’s Sheenaron Merry Penelope. A finer bitch, but still had a good shape and moved well. 3rd Jones’s Oakhouse One For Joy At Serengoch

Labrador Retriever – Open (5 Entries, 2 Abs) 1st & BOB Stewart’s Streamanda Aramis Masculine dog but not coarse, well boned, deep chest, correct tail set and carried level. Balanced and moved true fore and aft. 2nd Price’s Rowanhol London Welsh. A stronger dog but still balanced, scissor bite, level topline and well turned stifles. 3rd Jonse’s Roboshalee Wat To Tipperary For Serengoch

Golden Retriever - Junior (4 Entries, 2 Abs) 1ST & BOB, Hill’s Sandaula This Will Do (AI) Litter sisters and 1 just has the edge over her sister at present. Sweetest of head, dark eyes, scissor bite, deep chest and level topline, tight feet. A balanced bitch of quality who and moved well. 2ND Hill’s Sandula Kiss From a Rose. Not quite as finished as her sister, but the above comments apply. Preferred the movement of her sister.

Golden Retriever Open (7 Entries, 3 Abs) 1st Nicholl’s Largymore You’re My World JW ShCM . A masculine dog in good coat, correct front and rear angulation, deep chest, level topline and moved well. 2nd Froud’s Mafleurdean Witches Spell JW Not wearing her best coat, but a balanced bitch, scissor bite, sweet head and turn of stifle. Moved with drive. 3rd Froud &Hill’s Mafleurdean Charlie Crocker

Flatcoated Retriever Open (7 Entries, 2 Abs) A big range of ages in this class. 1st & BOB Protheroe’s Manteauplat Tom Putt. Young dog with a pleasing head, deep chest, level topline, flat bone, tight feet and good turn of stifle. 2 nd Simon’s Coedylan Visi D’arte ShCM. A 9 year old who can still hold their own against the youngsters. Head shape is correct, scissor bite, flat bone and just lost out on rear movement. 3rd Simon’s Rainesgift Royal Mint I Coedylan JW. 4th & PG3 Simons’s Coedylan Martini Night.

Hungarian Vizsla - Open (2 Entries, 0 Abs) 1st & BOB Miles’s Layway’s Van Winkle JW. A balanced young dog, good body shape and proportions. Scissor bite, decent reach of neck and he moved well. 2nd Jackson’s Addaci Living The Dream. A rangier type in hard condition, deep chest and level topline. Moved with drive.

Irish Setter – Puppy (3 Entries 0 Absent) 1st & BP Glastonbery’s Brabrook Nutcracker. Close decision between 1 and 2. Loved his head and expression, good reach of neck, deep chest and front angulation was correct. Topline is correct, as is rear angulation. Moved well. 2nd Harris’s Clonageera Daydream At Maesffynnon. Only a baby - this being her first show - but she is such a pretty bitch, balanced and just needs to gain confidence. 3rd Webb & Danks-Kemish’s Alolfrana Azzaro Beside Redeshka

Junior (1 Entry) 1st Repeat of puppy.

Graduate (4 Entries 2 Absent) 1st Lewis’ Tarrandell Maddison Dream. Pretty bitch, with pleasing head and expression, in good coat, low set ears, correct angulation front and rear. In hard condition and moved with drive. 2nd Jones’s Alolfrana U’are Bootiful. Not quite as balanced as 1, but a pleasant enough bitch who moved well.

Open (5 Entries 2 Abs) 1st BOB & G1 Mugford’s Lynwood Abracadabra JW. This girl caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Sweetest of head and expression, good reach of neck, front and rear angulation was correct and not over angulated, deep chest, correct topline, well turned stifle, balanced and feminine. She moved with exuberance and had a lashing tail carried level. 2nd Lewis’s Scoreslaw Chicargo Fire. Masculine dog with a handsome head, scissor bite, good reach of neck and well turned stifle, he moved okay. 3rd Webb’s Redeshka Sweet Gypsy Rose.

Pointer – Puppy (2 Entries 1 Abs) 1st Matthew’s Hawkfield Memories In Black. Just a baby of 6 months. Pleasing feminine head, correct front angulation, tight feet and moved well.

Graduate (3 Entries 0 Absent) 1st Wilcox’s Pipeaway Dreams Afyre in Merynjen. Loved the head on this boy. Good reach of neck, deep chest, well turned stifles and tight feet. Moved true fore and aft. 2nd Wilkins’s Wilchrimane Iced White For Lottieboo. It was a close decision between 1 and 2. Not quite as balanced as 1, but she has plenty going for her, femine head, deep chest, well turned stifle. Moved with drive., 3rd

Open (8 Entries 1 Absent) 1st & BOB G 4 Watkins, Phillips & Gordon’s Hawkfield Audacious (AI) JW. A quality bitch with the best of heads, deep chest and correct topline, Angulation front and rear is correct meaning her movement was true, maintaining her topline on the move. Moved with drive. 2nd Matthews’s Medogold Tartini With Sonham JW ShCM. Another bitch of quality just a bit longer in loin than 1, but not over angulated and her construction overall was good. Head shape was pleasing and scissor bite. 3RD Wilcox’s Wilcox’s Pipeaway Dreams Afyre in Merynjen

German Shorthaired Pointer Open (3 Entry 1 Abs) 1st and BOB Rose & Gaffney’s Pingarypoint The Way To Kavacanne Youngster with decent head and neck, forechest with a good depth. Front angulation is correct and she moved with drive. 2nd & BP Whittaker’s Pingarypoint Top Class. Preferred her head to 1, deep chest, a little tucked up at present, well turned stifle and moved well for a puppy.

Cocker Spaniel Junior (1 Entry 0 Abs) 1st & PG 2 Fleetwood’s Sonham Blue Bailey. 10 month old dog, masculine head but not coarse, scissor bite, level topline, deep chest, cobby, in good coat and correct angulation meaning. He moved well with drive.

Cocker Spaniel – Open (4 Entries, 0 Abs) 1st BOB & G2 Hillier’s Coedcernyw Calendar Girl JW. Classic bitch, loved her head, scissor bite, level topline and in good coat, balanced and well constructed. 2nd Stafford &Fuller’s Cassom Mary Poppins At Dizzneestar. Not quite in the best of coats which made her look a little immature. She is well constructed, short coupled and balanced. 3rd Harvey’s Tomerine Super Trouper ShCM.

Spaniel (American Cocker) Junior (1 Entry 0 Absent) 1st Edwards’s Afterglow Bang Tidy. Handsome dog, in full coat, deep chest and good reach of neck. Moved true fore and aft with drive.

Open (3 Entries 0 Absent) 1st &BOB Roberts’s Veltuds Buff Hello Bill From Adiaha ShCM 2nd Bedding’s Sanparti’s Getting Jiggy Vigie With It (Imp). Both these dogs were in full coat, with masculine heads, but not overdone. Correct topline and moved well. 3rd Coley’s Combleywood Jackline Hyde

English Springer Spaniel Junior (3 Entries 0 Absent) 1st & PG1 Lawler’s Roqfolly Back in The Habit. Loved this quality bitch who at present is just a little ahead of her litter mates. Sweetest of heads, scissor bite, deep chest, reach of neck, tight feet, level topline and correct angulation fore and aft. She moved well, is balanced and could not be denied her Group 1. 2nd Lawler’s Roqfolly Oda Mae Brown. The same points apply to this youngster just not quite as together as her sister, but will no doubt have a bright future too. 3rd Lewis & Bullock’s Roqfolly Keeping The Faith Intrixhund

Open (3 Entries 1 Absent) 1st & BOB & G3 Lawler’s Wenark Mayzin Grace For Roqfolly. Another quality feminine, balanced bitch who has a pretty head, scissor bite, good reach of neck, well angulated front and rear, level topline, tight feet and she moved with drive. 2nd Lewis &Bullock’s Trixhund Talking Obsession JW ShCM ShcEx. Masculine dog, decent reach of neck, deep chest, good spring of rib, well turned stifle. Moved well

Welsh Springer Spaniel Junior (1 Entry 0 Absent) 1ST Johnston’s Nalydris Hakuna Matata. Pretty bitch, feminine and balanced, angulation front and rear is correct with a level topline kept on the move.

Open (3 Entries 2 Absent) 1st & BOB Rees’s Hudolus Rhys Henllys at Typica Sh CM. Pleasing masculine head, scissor bite, deep chest and good angulation, he moved with drive and enthusiasm.

AVNSC Gundog – Puppy (1 Entries, 0 Abs)   1st B AVNSC P & PG4 Richards’s Sophisticated Lady (GLP). A good example of the breed this youngster is full of enthusiasm. Loved her head qualities and correct angulation front and rear. Well turned stifles, she moved well (if a little over enthusiastically).  

AVNSC Gundog – Post Graduate (4 Entries, 2 Abs)  1st & BAVNSC Williams’s Skippit Sky Full of Stars (English Setter). Pretty bitch, feminine head, good reach of neck well laid back shoulders, deep chest, well turned stifles and in good coat. She was in hard condition and moved with drive. 2nd Jones’s Dregheda Desert Song (GWP) A little too strong for me but well furnished face, tight feet, topline is okay and she moved well. 

AVNSC Gundog – Open (4 Entries, 2 Abs)   1st Lewis’s Belton Pearls A Kind of Magic (Imp Deu) (English Setter). A masculine dog who does have a deep chest, tight feet, straight front, dark eyes and scissor bite. 

AV Gundog – Puppy (5 Entries, 0 Abs) 1st Fleetwood’s Sonham Blue Bailey 2nd Simons’s Coedylan Martini Night. Placed 4th in the Open breed class but a very nice puppy, pleasing head, well constructed front and rear, moved with confidence and is balanced. 3rd Richards’s Sophisticated Lady (GLP)

AV Gundog Veteran (7 Entries 4 Abs) 1st Simon’s Coedylan Visi D’arte ShCM 2nd Mugford’s Ch Lynwood Happy As A Lark JW. Sweet head, scissor bite, good reach of neck, deep chest, well turned stifle, strong topline kept on the move. Moved with drive. 3rd Edwards’s Afterglow Dancing Brave ShCM.
