I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this show and the honour of being invited to judge Best In Show.  It was a very enjoyable day and I very much appreciated the opportunity of this appointment to assess some lovely dogs.  

This show exemplifies what all too often seems to have been forgotten nowadays where the enjoyment of showing dogs and the sporting way in which all exhibits were applauded for their success has been forgotten.

The hospitality and friendliness extended to me throughout the day was exemplary – thank you. 

I must extend my gratitude to my very hard working stewards on the day without whom my ring could not have functioned and ran so smoothly.

1ST Barkley, Miss S, Chanangel Mr Whodat At Cherryheath: At just 14 months of age, I thought this young dog to be very smart and extremely well presented. Well balanced. Very nice and correct head, correct clean and complete dentition, clean neck, well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Elbows tight to brisket. Powerful hindquarters, which he used to advantage on the move. Excellent bone throughout and the very best of feet with short nails. BOB

2ND Waller, Miss R, Isfryn Lady Godiva At Fireglow JW: Very nice bitch of 2 years, very feminine head and expression, correct clean and complete dentition, clean neck, well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Elbows tight to brisket. Powerful hindquarters well made all through just lacked the enthusiasm on the move of my first placed exhibit RBOB

2ND Nicholson, Mrs B M, Kingsheath Ruby Riott: Pleasing bitch of just 6 Months of age showing good proportions, lovely head and expression, good bone, well sprung ribs correct, clean and complete dentition, close straight coat. Moved well.

1ST Wimshurst, Mrs A, Kingsheath Regal Gold: Super quality dog of just 15 Months of age. Pleasing head of good proportions, foreface of proportionate length to skull, eye of medium size giving kind expression, correct, clean and complete dentition with correct bite, strong neck leading into well placed shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest, muscular loin, broad thighs, stifles and hocks moderately bent. In good coat, moved very well, extending in front – he presented a well-balanced picture very good quality bone and feet. BOB, Gundog Group 1 & RBIS

BP

2ND Saxon, Mrs E, Coombstock Witches Dance: At 11½ months very well balanced not exaggerated in any way, correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Deep brisket and good length of ribcage. Well made hindquarters with excellent bone and feet. Moved well. In excellent coat and condition.

Junior (5, 2abs):

1ST Kinchella, Mr P & Mrs T, Honeymill Elder Warrior: At 15 months of age, I thought this dog to be extremely well-balanced and symmetrical all through. Mouth is correct, clean and complete with full dentition and a scissor bite. Masculine but balanced head that is well chiselled with dark eyes. He excels in forehand construction. Deep in brisket and well ribbed with balanced and short-coupled body. Hindquarters that are both strong and muscular. Moved maintaining a level topline at all times and showing good forehand reach and drive from his hindquarters. Stands square hock to heel with excellent bone and feet. Presented in beautiful condition with full coat. BOB

1ST Pounds-Longhurst, Mrs S H, Rosgar Dolly O’Dare Among Mossburn: A 2-year old bitch, not flashy in any way but instead excels in overall construction and balance and free from exaggeration. Good head with requisite chiselling, correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, clean, strong neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest, well ribbed, strong hindquarters, good bone moved accurately both fore, aft and in side profile when asked. RBOB

2ND Gray & Hales, Mrs B S & Miss W B, Sunnyoak Morning Glory At Grayales: A very nice male, different type to my first placed exhibit but still very pleasing on the eye. The slight hook in his tail at times spoilt the overall outline but this was not continuously prevalent. Very good head and eye, correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, strong neck into good forehand construction, well ribbed into loin of optimum length, sound hindquarters, moved well.

1ST Todd, Mrs P T, Toddrosa Sprinter Sacre: Mature male, very well presented. Well balanced. Masculine head, not coarse or overdone in any way with soft expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, good layback of shoulder. Well ribbed leading to good bone and feet, moved very well.

2ND Gray & Hales, Mrs B S & Miss W B, Hollygold Royal Albert At Grayales: A 7 year old male, in fine condition, very well balanced, excellent head, correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, a fraction short in neck, well placed shoulders, good width and depth of chest, good bone and feet moved very well.

3RD Brimley, Mrs J E, Kensalroag Catch The Wind

1ST Pett, Mr I & Mrs M, Stormerick High Hopes At Rumwood ShCM: Balance bitch with feminine head and soft expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition and correct bite, correct shoulder placement and corresponding length of upper arm. Good depth of brisket. Well-made hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. In good coat and musculature. Moved well.

2ND Kinchella, Mr P & Mrs T, Wynrita Scandalmonger: A bitch of 5½ years of age, very good overall type and very well balanced. Super head and expression, excellent fore and hind construction, good width and depth to chest, good quality bone all through, very good on the move in all profiles, disappointingly, her nails were far too long which spoilt an overall good picture.

1ST Deering, Mrs D (Handling For Mrs K A Thacker), Harsett Vanity Fair: An 11-month bitch, lovely head of correctly proportions and carried high on muscular and lean neck, soft expression, ears set low, correct, clean and complete dentition, shoulders set well back, deep chest, body of optimum length, well made hindquarters, tight feet. On the move she showed a free graceful action, but a little loose due to age. BP

Post Graduate (3,1abs):

1ST Harris, Bridgwater & Hoeksema, Mrs P, Mrs D & Mr G, Bridgella’s First Edition With Konakakela JW: Handsome and upstanding dog of jus 2 years of age. For me, he is a lovely example of the breed. Excellent head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, long, lean and muscular neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest of good width, short level back, strong hindquarters with well bent stifles, quality bone all through. Tight well-arched feet with short nails. Very well muscled for one so young. On the move he was accurate both fore and aft and demonstrating and lovely open side-gate and correct tail action. Good quality coat. BOB

2ND Bailey, Mr J & Mrs C, Ravensett Seville At Gwithian JW: Male of just 19 months of age with much to like. Very good overall type, well made all through, excellent head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck, well-placed shoulders, elbows on brisket, deep chest, in good coat moved well and soundly but threw his front a on the move, leading to untidy and inaccurate front action.

1ST Deering, Mrs D, Skylark Of Resetimber: A bitch of 5 years very well balanced and of good overall proportions, excellent head and soft expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean muscular clean well made forequarters, deep chest, moved economically and accurately. RBOB

2ND Poynter & Lewis, Mrs E M, Mr L E, Mr N R & Miss C, Quensha Cowboys and Angels: A male of just 2 years of age presented in stunning overall condition – an absolute credit to his handler. Very good head, correct, clean and complete dentition, excellent clean neck into well-placed shoulders, very good depth and width to chest, moderate well-muscled hindquarters – he was easily my class winner until he moved when he was not as accurately in front and behind as the class winner – this was the dog playing his handler up.

Intelligent expression, skull moderately broad and well proportioned, correct, clean and complete dentition, neck of moderate length, well placed shoulders, coming together well all through, good bone, tight feet, nails could have been shorter, moved very well. 1ST Mills, Mrs S & Mr N S, Karrouki Wildfire: A male of 14 months of age, excels in forehand construction, very good head, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong, clean neck, deep chest, well muscled, extremely well balanced, nails could have been shorter moved very well with lively trot. RBOB

2ND Wallington, Miss S, Nicael Blue Diamond Among Ohanava: Balanced bitch of good proportions, looking very good and pleasing all through and up to size for me. Balanced head with well developed nostrils, correct eye shape and colour, correct, clean and complete dentition, correct forehand assembly, medium bone throughout, ribs well sprung, showing correct slight tuck-up to body, moderately angulated hindquarters, short coat, tight feet and nails could be shorter. Just preferred the hind movement and overall profile movement on my first placed exhibit today.

Extremely well-balanced male of nearly 4 years of age, super head that is balanced with correct eye and correct, clean and complete dentition. Strong clean neck into very good shoulder placement and corresponding return of upper arm, elbows set close to chest, chest well developed and of moderate depth displaying prominent breast bone. Moderately angulated hindquarters, short and dense coat. Short nails. Moved and handled extremely well. BOB 

2ND Sutherland, Mr G & Mrs C A, Carnlochan Morning Star Luxjunch: A well balanced bitch, nails far too long, feminine head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, good fore and hind quarters moved very well.

Lovely head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, quality bone all through, deep chest, very good fore and hind angulation, in very good full, clean quality coat. Moved and shown very well

2ND Smithurst, Miss J, Fulophegyi-Feher Annus (Hungarian Kuvasz): A pleasing exhibit, good head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition with scissor bite, strong neck into shoulders that were slightly upright and short in upper arm, deep chest of good width, moderate hind angulation, good musculature all through, nails excessively long moved well with handler once she had gathered her up

1ST Dando, Mrs A, Naughty Boris Van T Weimeland (IMP BEL) (Slovakian Rough-Haired Pointer): A dog of nearly 4 years with absolute ring presence and oozing quality. True to breed type, distinguished in appearance, excellent in shape and proportions with moderate stop. Correct, clean and complete dentition, well-muscled neck into well placed shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, correct body ratio (10:9) and well developed and prominent forechest. Well-angulated and muscled hindquarters, quality bone all through. Moved very well, both balanced and lively holding topline very well. He was presented in very hard and fit condition. 2ND Smithurst, Miss J,, Arkosligeti KoCOS Nekered (Hungarian Pumi): An eye-catching, smart, well-balanced dog of 2-years of age. Very well presented and shown. Very good head and eye, correct, clean and complete dentition, coat of excellent quality and texture. Good forehand construction with moderate hind angulation. Moved extremely well and accurately. Excellent head and expression, scissor bite with correct, clean and complete dentition, long clean and muscular neck, excels in forehand assembly with well placed shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest, level topline, full, broad and strong rump, moved extremely well both fore and aft and side profile. Presented in wonderful condition with excellent musculature. 

2ND Thorogood, Mrs C A & Miss D P, SH CH Winhampton Over The Yarddarm Of Harrifield JW ShCM (Clumber Spaniel): At 5 years of age this dog is still an exemplary example of the breed and always presented so very well. Perfectly balanced, quality bone all through, correct, clean and complete mouth and dentition, super quality large square head that is not overdone in any way and of medium length, dark full eyes, thick powerful neck, correct shoulder placement and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest of good width and well sprung ribs that are carried well back, powerful hindquarters, large round feet. On the move he was straight both fore and aft and with effortless drive.

1ST Pace, Miss N, Big Addo (Dalmatian): At 7 years of age, this dog was very well balanced all through, good head correct, clean and complete mouth and dentition, clean neck well placed shoulders, deep of good width well muscled moved very well. Best AV Veteran

2ND Beer & Tilley, Ms J M & Mr G, CH Belwaycharm Time Zone For Tilbe JW ShCM (Shih Tzu): 8 years of age and presented in beautiful condition. Broad head, mouth wide, lips level, nicely arched neck into shoulders that were well laid back, broad chest, so very sound and accurate on the move.

1ST Bush, Miss A, Bundu Callipygian (Lowchen – Little Lion Dog): Extremely well balanced, and presented in super condition. Head fairly broad, dark round eyes, correct, clean and complete dentition and mouth, slightly arched neck into well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs and good hindquarters. Very sound and accurate on the move.

2ND Pounds-Longhurst, Mrs S H, Brodene Tempestivity To Mossburn (Golden Retriever): An excellent example of the breed and of over eleven years of age. Pleasing head, strong neck into well placed shoulders, well-ribbed, moderate hind angulation, moved well.

1ST Flower, Mr J & Mrs P, Chopitea Casablanca (Dobermann): Elegant, medium sized bitch of 8 months of age. Beautifully balanced. Excellent head in proportion to body, correct, clean and complete dentition and mouth, strong, clean neck well placed shoulders, deep chest of good width, moderate hind angulation moved very well both freely and balanced.

2ND Clements & Pratt, Mr S & Miss S, Affilato Twist Of Irony (Italian Spinone): Another that is just 6 months of age. Of very good breed type and excellent proportions and bone throughout. Good head with clear divergent head planes, deep muzzle and kind expression. Correct mouth with clean and complete dentition, powerful neck, good shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, correct topline rising gently to broad loin, good bend of stifle, moved very well and soundly.

2ND Coleman, Miss L J, Jandade Shooting Star To Hartswelin (Briard): Almost 12 months of age, very smart bitch who presented a super outline. Quality head with square muzzle, correct, clean and complete dentition and mouth, strong muscular and slightly arched necked leading to good forehand assembly, chest of good depth and width, firm back and well angulated hindquarters. Good bone all through, moved very well.

2ND Yorke & Keree-Bartolo, Mesdames, F & S L, Middletune Eternal Flame At Shirkeira (Shih Tzu): Nearly 18 months of age, very smart and completely balanced all through. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Head broad, mouth wide, lips level, nicely arched neck into well placed shoulders that were well laid back, broad chest, sound and accurate on the move.

Excellent head of good proportions, correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite. Clean, muscular and slightly slightly arched neck excellent fore and hind assembly, deep chest, moved very well.

Nash, Mrs R E, Ralph Of House Nash (Norfolk Terrier): I surprised myself with this dog of nearly 4½ years of age. I found my eye being drawn to him, which was due to his overall quality and complete balance. He has a broad skull with wedge-shaped muzzle, and ears set-on dropping forwards to cheek, correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite, strong neck into shoulders that are well laid back, compact, short body, with well sprung ribs and well-muscled hindquarters. He has a very good jacket that was hard and wiry. On the move he showed true and low driving movement, which was totally at one with his handler.

Hadlow, Ms E J, Khyibrang’s Regal Rock At Quidditch (Tibetan Terrier): A beautifully balanced bitch of 11 months of age, completely free from any form of exaggeration. Skull of medium length not coarse, large dark eyes and ears set close to head. Correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite. Strong muscular neck into shoulders that were correct and well laid back. Muscular body well ribbed back, elbows onto brisket, and well muscled hindquarters. , In full coat presented to a high standard. I could have watched her move all day, she moved whenever asked with a smooth and effortless stride.

RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW

Fox, Mrs K and Mr J, Hillsted Sweet Destiny (West Highland White Terrier): A quality bitch of nearly 10 months of age, presented and shown in top condition. Typical head with thickly coated head, eyes of medium size and dark, ears small erect and carried firmly. Correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite. Strong neck into sloping shoulders, deep chest compact body, muscular thighs. Moved showing ease of stride and a straight and free gait.  

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Howlett, Miss R & Mrs M, CH Boughton Blenheim ShCM (Greyhound): What an absolute privilege it was for me to be presented with and evaluate this 7 year old dog for Best Veteran In Show. Presented as a strongly built and upstanding dog in the breed standard, which I can confirm that he fits in all areas. Correct long and moderate skull, dark eyes, Correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite. Neck long, clean and muscular leading well set back shoulders, deep chest of good width, ribs deep and well muscled hindquarters with well developed second thigh. On the move he moved with an absolutely smooth and low reaching stride.

RESERVE BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Gallagher, Miss P, Izralight Sugababe JW ShCM (Dobermann): Elegant, balanced and totally free from any exaggeration is my opening gambit in the critique to describe this 7 year old bitch. Of medium size, with very good musculature without any sign of coarseness. Very good head filled well under the eyes, dark brown eyes, Correct, clean and complete dentition, mouth and bite. Strong, clean neck into very good forehand assembly, deep chest of very good width with elbows tight to brisket. Square in profile, moderate hindquarters that were well muscled with prominent second thigh. Tight well-arched feet with the shortest of nails. Moved accurately both fore, aft and in side profile.
