Chelmsford & District Canine Society

My thanks to the Officers and Committee for this appointment. The quality of depth in all breeds I judged was particularly pleasing. I was delighted that my Gundog Group winner was awarded Reserve Best In Show


AVNSC Gundog – Puppy (6, 2abs):

1ST Jennings & Hume, Miss T & Miss N, Legend N Ecclesiates International Warrior (IMP USA) (Spaniel – American Cocker): A male of just 7 months of age, of very good type, construction and overall balance, beautifully presented, correct, clean and complete dentition, good head and neck into good forehand construction, very good bone, excellent feet with short nails, moved very well. Best AVNSC Puppy and my pleasure to award him Puppy Group 3

2ND Sladden, Mr I, Tyrbechgyn Believe You Will At Canemamans (Bracco Italiano): 11 months, of pleasing type and construction, super head, clean neck into good forequarters, deep chest, balanced, moved very well, nails far too long, which spoilt the shape of the feet. Beaten today by a very good American Cocker Spaniel.

3RD Dennis, Mr T & Mrs C, Oakmarsh Florence (Retriever – Chesapeake Bay)

1ST Dunsdon, Ms T M, Meadowvale Luther Vandross At Seaspring (Spaniel – English Springer): 17 month male, well up to size but balanced all through, good head and expression, excels in bone and substance, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into well placed shoulders, very good feet with short nails, strong hindquarters, moved very well.

2ND Beasley, Mrs I A, Wansleydale Amaretto (English Setter): 20 months of good type and balance, correct, clean and complete dentition, feminine head, super clean neck well placed shoulders, optimum length of loin, good bone moved very well accurate both fore and aft

3RD Finch, Miss M D, Silberliss Summer Of Love (Weimaraner)

AVNSC Gundog - Post Graduate (4, 2abs):

1ST Wallington, Miss S, Nicael Blue Diamond Among Ohanava (Hungarian Vizsla): 2 years, bitch, looking very good and pleasing all through. Balanced head with well developed nostrils, correct eye shape and colour, correct, clean and complete dentition, correct forehand assembly, medium bone throughout, ribs well sprung, showing correct slight tuck-up to body, moderately angulated hindquarters, short coat, tight feet and nails could be a little shorter. Moved well. Best AVNSC

1ST Watts, K L, Oakmarsh Chestnut (Retriever – Chesapeake Bay): 3 years of age, balanced and very workmanlike, correct, clean and complete dentitiongood head strong neck well placed shoulders deep chest with good width, well muscled, moderate bend of stifle, good width to second thigh, moved well.

2ND Finch, Miss M D, INT SH CH/LUX CH Silvestre Last Tango With Silberliss JW (Weimaraner): 4 years of age, of pleasing overall type, correct, clean and complete dentition, good head clean neck good forequarters, and good width, just carrying a little too much weight which spoiled the overall picture.

3RD Dunsdon, Ms T M, Seaspring Becalmed (Spaniel – English Springer)

Pointer – Puppy (5):

1ST Dyer, Oddie & Coles, Mrs S, Mr & Mrs M & S & Mr B, Sharnphilly Serendipity: 9 months, lovely type and balance, Good overall balance. His head has a pronounced stop giving dished like appearance. Correct clean and complete dentition. Clean neck leading to good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Correctly set tail. Well made hindquarters with good width of second thigh. On the move he is good in side profile - still a little loose in elbow coming in towards. Best Puppy, Reserve Best Of Breed and Puppy Group 2


2ND Horn, Miss M, Droveborough’s Smooth Mover: 11 months, upstanding male of good proportions, Well balanced all through. Good bone, good head with correct, clean and complete dentition. Clean neck leading to good lay of shoulder. Slightly slopes down in topline and I would like a little more length to the croup. Moved freely. Nails need to be shorter.

3RD Smith, Mr P K & Mrs L A, Lypal Well I Never

Pointer – Special Yearling (8, 1abs):

1ST Roberts, Ms C, Fanmatrix Midnight’s Dream: 12 months balanced young male who presented a clean outline, good head, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck into good forehand assembly, deep chest with good width, moved very well with correct front action.

2ND Oddie, Miss, Sharnphilly Hello Dolly: Bitch of good proportions, and of pleasing overall type and balance, good and correct head, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck good shoulder, deep chest moderate hindquarters angulation. Moved well, but slightly wide when coming in and pinned slightly.

3RD Cobden, Mrs J, Pendan Zelie To Alozia

Pointer - Post Graduate (4):

1ST Barham, Mrs L J, Kenwardgold Minnie Me: 4 years of age, Well balanced all through. Excellent head with well defined stop and slight dish appearance when viewed in profile. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Correct length and spring of ribcage. Well made hindquarters, with good bone and feet.  

2ND Welch, Maber & Hazeltine, Mrs S & Miss M & Miss C, Sharnphilly Toggi With Hookwood: 14 months, bitch of good type and again overall balance, super head with correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck and well placed shoulders, deep chest of good width, moderate hind angulation good width to second thigh, tight neat feet moved very well.

3RD Ovel, Mrs A, Plungevale Queen Of Hearts Ay Gamier

Pointer - Open (3, 1abs):

1ST Cobden, Mrs J, Hawkfield Bronze For Alozia ShCM: Nearly 4 years of age, I loved the type and balance of this bitch, pleasing head, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into well placed shoulders, Good depth and spring of ribcage. Strong topline with correct tailset. Well made hindquarters with correct turn of stifle. On the move she was accurate both fore and aft and showed good length of stride when viewed in profile.deep chest with good width, strong hindquarters, moved very well. My pleasure to award her Best Of Breed and Gundog Group 1 – I was proud and delighted to later hear that she went on to be awarded Reserve Best In Show.

2ND Hazeltine & Welch, Miss C & Mrs S, Pytchley Chasing The Dream For Hookwood JW: Upstanding male of just 2 years of age, pleasing overall type, good typical head, correct, clean and complete dentition, slightly steep in upper arm which extended to his slightly high action on the move, deep chest with good width, strong hindquarters.


GSP – Junior (3):

1ST Lauchlan, Ms E, Blythehill Blossoms: Very well balanced and proportioned bitch, pleasing overall type, good head and neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest with good width, nails could have been much shorter, would have moved with more fluidity if on a loser lead.

2ND Braine, Miss J, Grenetrest Tulip (TAF): 20 months, good overall type, loin of optimum proportions for me, very feminine head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, did not do herself any favours on the move.

GSP - Post Graduate (1):

1ST Lauchlan, Ms E, Wingfielding Singin’ In The Rain: Pleasing bitch probably at the top end of what i would prefer, pleasing head with correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck, chest of good depth and width, slightly too long in loin for me and more inline with the masculinity of a male.

GSP – Open (3, 2):

1ST Braine, Miss J, Grenetrest Canterbury Bell JW: Upstanding male who stood over a lot of ground, pleasing head with correct, clean and complete dentition balanced and of good proportions, loin of optimum length, good forehand assembly, deep chest with good width, strong hindquarters, moved well both fore, aft and in side profile. Best Of Breed and Gundog Group 4

Gundog Group:

1. Cobden, Mrs J, Hawkfield Bronze For Alozia ShCM (Pointer)

2. Hutson, Mrs S J, Stobytill Hippy Hippy Shake JW (Spaniel, Cocker): Balanced and compact 2 year old bitch, well developed skull, square muzzle, gentle expression, dentition correct, clean and complete, lobular low set ears, strong neck into well placed shoulders, well developed chest, short loin, level topline, muscular hindquarters, the best of feet and shortest of nails, very good and sound on the move.

3. Strevens, Miss H, SH CH Erikachen Conaire At Tollisty JW ShCM ShCEx (Retriever, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling): I have now judged this dog on a number of occasions and for me, today was the best I have seen him look. Excellent breed type who has all the attributes that I look for in the breed. Excellent head, slightly wedge-shaped, moderate stop, correct eye with alert expression, medium size high set ears, Correct, clean and complete dentition, strong necks, excels in forehand construction, deep chest with brisket that reaches elbow, well muscled hindquarters, tight round feet, super quality bone all through, moved very well with super forward reach and rear drive, accurate both fore, aft and in profile gait.

4. Braine, Miss J, Grenetrest Canterbury Bell JW (German Shorthaired Pointer)

Puppy Group:

1. Clarke, Mrs V, Ousevale Tobermory (Retriever, Golden): When I judge, I always live in hope that just occasionally a really special dog or bitch will be presented and I will have the honour and pleasure to be given the opportunity to judge such an exhibit – today I found such a dog, albeit a puppy. What a stunning puppy. Well balanced all through.  Excellent head, with good length of muzzle, correct, clean and complete dentition, dark eye and well set ears.  Well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Elbows well under the body.  Deep chest. Correct length of ribcage with short loin.  Hindquarters are strong with good width of second thigh. Correct bone for age with the very best of feet and shortest of nails.  Moved very well with confidence and good drive. Excellent coat and condition. I had no hesitation in awarding him this Puppy Group, which was my absolute pleasure to do so and I am sure we will hear a lot more about him in the future.

4. Gratton & Bott, Mrs E & Mrs M, Bardonhill Don’t Stop Me Now (Irish Setter): Dog of just 11 months of age, Very well balanced with noble head and soft expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Good length of neck, long in shoulder blade with deep brisket and good width to chest, correctly sloping topline. Good muscle tone to hindquarters for age, long stifles with well let down hocks. Moved very well with good tail action. In excellent coat and condition.
