Large Munsterlander Club

The Large Munsterlander Club held its Breed Open Show and celebrated its 100TH Anniversary.

I would like to sincerely thank the Officers and Committee of The Large Munsterlander Club for inviting me to Judge at their Club open show – it was indeed a great honour for me on a special day for me. The hospitality extended to me throughout the entire day was exceptional.

My gracious thanks are also extended to my stewards who provided me with help and efficiency in keeping things flowing and of course to the exhibitors for their sporting appreciation of my decisions and for trusting me with their dogs, I am very grateful to you all.

One point that I feel I must make and it is advice rather than criticism, some very nice exhibits were not placed as highly as they would have been if shown in a more professional manner rather than letting the dog dictate the way it was shown.

Minor Puppy Dog – (2):

1ST Simpson, Ms C A & Johnston, Mrs L, Ekkolander Dark Madness At Leriton: 7 months of age, good head and expression, correctly set ears, full, clean and complete dentition, good length of neck into well placed shoulders, very good bone all through, moderate hind angulation, tight feet short nails, moved well.

2ND O’Brien, Mr I, Ekkolander Dark Shadow: Litter brother to the eventual class winner, again similar comments apply to my first placed dog, of a good type and well made, moved well, I just preferred the head on first placed dog at this age.

Puppy Dog – (5):

1ST Gronow, Mrs H, Cazooska Lilys Gin Fizz: At 9 months of age I thought this dog presented a pleasing overall picture and showing good breed type. He is well balanced with good head and dark eye. Correct, clean and complete dentition, good length of neck, which was slightly arched into well placed shoulders, correct rib to loin ratio. He needs to develop more in his chest but this should come with age. Moderate hind angulation, tight feet with short nails. Moved well. I was very pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog, Best Puppy In Breed and Best Puppy In Show

2ND Simpson, Ms C A & Johnston, Mrs L, Ekkolander Dark Madness At Leriton

1ST Gronow, Mrs H, Cazooska Lilys Gin Fizz

Novice Dog – (1):

1ST Powell, Ms J E & Murrell, Mr A E, Crumpsbrook Woodrush: I really was quite taken by this dog in outline and profile. At 19 months, a really striking dog who presented in super hard condition and extremely well made all through. Excels in bone and with the tightest of feet and short nails, typical head and expression, dark eye, complete and clean dentition, well ribbed, moderate turn of stifle – eventually moved steadily once settled but could have moved more freely.

Graduate Dog – (4, 1abs):

1ST Day, Mrs M I & Mr M E, Waldo Vom Busshof Mit Alfriston (Imp) Deu: A dog of 19 months of age that has much potential. Full of breed type. After checking my catalogue I notice that he is a full Champion and I should say a very worthy Champion. Excellent head, with dark eye and correctly set ears. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm – being critical, he would benefit from a little more length in the upper arm. Well ribbed back leading to short loin and strong hindquarters and well let down hocks and parallel cannon bones. Quality bone all through, tight feet and short nails. Moved with drive, accurate both fore, aft and in profile, showing good open side gait.

Special Working Bitch – (1):

1ST Ogle & Butler’s, CH Raycris Freya JW: The epitome of the breed standard and an honour to assess her again. Outstanding bitch with no exaggerated features and forms the template for me in this breed and should to up and coming Judges of this breed. Correct length to body ratio. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Head well proportioned to body on strong muscular neck, which is slightly arched. Chest wide with very good depth of brisket. Shoulders well laid back with corresponding return of upper arm, strong back and short loin, well muscled thighs with well let down hocks and parallel cannon bones. In very good coat. Moved well to win Best bitch - even though the smaller ring probably didn’t suit her.

Today, she was beaten in the Best In Show Challenge by in my humble opinion, an outstanding dog with a very bright future ahead of him. However, it was my absolute pleasure to award her, Reserve Best In Show, Best Opposite Sex and Best Veteran In Show.

Veteran Bitch – (4,1abs):

1ST Darby, Sh Ch Brockchime Besta Both To Incadar: Very typical bitch of pleasing overall type with excellent head and expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Moved freely and accurately both fore, aft and in side profile.

2ND Ellis, Mrs J S & Mr J S, Sh Ch Raycris Calista JW: I absolutely loved the overall type and balance of this bitch. Beautiful and correct in head and expression with good earset and correct, clean and complete dentition. Clean neck into well-placed shoulders and return of upper arm, deep and wide chest, strong hindquarters, feet neat tight with short nails. Sadly, she pinned in front, which ultimately cost her.

3RD Ward, Mrs J H, Incadar Illuminare For Gemoirien: What a great credit this lovely lady is both to the breed and to her owner at just over 11 years of age. She has retained a pleasing head type and soft expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck into well placed shoulders, deep chest, good hindquarters and neat feet. She moved as a lady of her years was entitled to, with dignity but became a little unsound just on the final part of her individual movement assessment. To her owner, I say thank you so much for allowing me to Judge your lovely girl.
