Whippets

Thank you to the committee for inviting me along to judge whippets at their show, a first time for me at this show/venue and I can see why it is so popular. Clashing with a breed seminar locally to the show the good entry was greatly appreciated and the quality of whippets on show was high in all classes with every whippet judged being presented in top condition.

Puppy (8:1)

1: Edenwhip Grange Fell at Willowash, 11mth old light fawn bitch, good overall size and silhouette on the stack. A touch too lean and muscular for my idealism of a bitch making me think maybe she is raced or lure coursed as well. Still she had it all to take this class with a positive steady performance on the move.

2: Danluke Love Affair at Langshar, 8mth old red fawn bitch, super for size and a picture in  stack and on the move but not quite the rise over loin and flowing  curves of the 1st place bitch. Another steady performance and most definitely my type of girl.

3: Edenwhip High Cup Nick,

Junior (5:1)

1: Edenwhip Eagle Crag, Litter brother to the Puppy class winner, red fawn/white trim dog that I hope doesn’t grow on any more as he is at top height for me, however that said, a good quality head, curved neck into a good front and straight legs, good spring of pastern and a good tuck up with good rise over loin flowing into a good rear assembly, he was true coming and going and handled to perfection to give him this class and best puppy on the day. 2: Barnesmore Lakota Legend at Willowash, almost 12mth old and a strong dog in appearance, another dog on top size and another I wouldn’t want to see grow on any further, fawn brindle white parti, good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, good front infill, correct under line, into a good shapely rear assembly with a good bend of stifle and good second thigh. Moved true coming and going.

3: Gilnockie Hot to Trot

Post Graduate (2:1)

1: Stargrange Midnight Breeze at Willowash, red fawn white parti bitch, Pretty expression, good pigment, good front infill, would have liked a touch more spring of pastern, good tuck up and correct for topline on this shapely bitch. A little unsettled in the noisy environment around the whippet ring.

Limit (4:1)

1: Wakebarrow Willow Pattern 5Yr 5mth brindle/white trim bitch, exquisite for size and possesses that true whippet silhouette, Beautiful alert expression from a small perfectly formed head, true rose ear, good length of neck into a well laid should and return of upper arm. Correct tuck up, rise over loin going onto an almost perfect rear bend of stifle and low set hocks. No exaggerations here on this bitch and she may have gone all the way today but just lacked that final drive in the challenge to stop her taking top honours. A girl to be proud off and one I would love to have at home. - RBiB

2: Pursenet El Capitan, 2.5 yr old dark brindle dog, good strong head with a dark eye, neck and front infill. Would have liked more return of upper arm and for the tail to be carried slightly lower on the move but put this down to the noisy vibrant ring on the day. Moved well coming and going and was unlucky to come up against a bitch from the top drawer today.

3: Leos Ricthoal at Willowash

Open (5:1)

1: Collooney Hells Angel of Brochinbelle JW, 2yr 8mth fawn brindle/white trim bitch. Very pretty expression and head set, long neck into good lay of shoulder and equally good return of upper arm. Good front infill, good tuck up, correct topline, good rear angulations and a low set hock, moved true coming and going and with drive in abundance on the move, you just couldn’t take your eyes of her on the move, she positively owned the ring and was up for it today. Pleased to award her best of Breed and thrilled to hear she went onto hound group2.  - BiB
