Thanks very much to my friendly steward, Sue Worrell, who kept everything flowing. The ring was large so the exhibits had plenty of space to move.
NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING RETRIEVER
P - 1 & BP Powley's Gaberlunzie Parsnip. Good size, well fitted coat, pleasing head and expression, nice spring of rib, good tail set and carriage, strong rear, was a little lack lustre when moving. 2 Collins & Powley's Deveron Duchess of Danehaven. Slightly finer in bone and longer in body but very alert and attentive to handler, sweet head with well placed ears, good bend of stifle, just needs to settle down a little on the move. SY - 1 Chapman's Katimba Trebbiano at Dkai. Rich coat colour, eyes perhaps a shade lighter than coat colour, very powerful mover with good reach and drive and tail carried correctly high on the move, feet could be tighter but very well handled and a true showman. 2 Fincham's Danehaven Ralph. Good coat presentation, high set triangular shaped ears, flesh coloured nose and eye rims, eyes almond shaped, good depth of chest, could do with more muscle on rear quarters. 3 Tester's Gingafing Aint No Way. L 1 & BOB Collins & Powley's Danehaven Kovik. Well up to size with a masculine and slightly wedge shaped head, good bone, nice front and rear angulation, wouldn't want him to carry any more weight over the shoulders, a real strong mover in all directions and carrying tail high which finished off the picture. 2 Tester's Gingafing Careless Whisper. Nice clean outline on this smaller but longer Toller, well presented and attractive white markings, appeals in head, good eye set and shape and high ears of good shape. Just tended to throw her front on the move. 3 Chapman's Decoymans The Dreamworker. O 1 NUCH/SU(U) CH Chrilikas Eventyrlige Egon. Balanced boy just lacking coat and a little on the thin side, but a very nice head and expression, very alert to handler, good bone, tight feet, level topline and moved well with typical jaunty action. 2 Tester's Gingafing Let's Go Crazy, proportions were a little long and low for me on this girl but with a good reach of neck, level topline which she held on the move and tail nicely carried up too.
AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD
P - 1 & BP Reeve's Durena Midnight Rebellion. Beautifully presented and handled, his whites were sparkling, and he was certainly attentive to his handler and animated, forelegs straight and well boned and oval, compact feet, very attractive head with high set ears that tipped well forward. SY - 1 & BOB Allan's Allmark Ebony. Another exceptionally well presented young tri dog dog who was a real eye catcher on the move, attractive classical markings, balanced head, round bone, good depth of chest, keen and alert expression, would like a fraction more turn of hock. L 1 A Ebony. 2 Fitches' Lamintone Epic Inferno (AI). This one is well named as the handler did well to keep him under control as he certainly was bold and alert and on his toes, in excellent coat and condition, super firm topline, good depth of chest unmistakably male, elbows could be tighter and his front isn't the straightest. O 1 Ghostrider Of the Mighty Crown with Triforce ShCM. Well turned out almost nine years old who really showed a smooth ground covering action and very accurate in all directions, stands well so naturally with a straight front and good turn of hock, just one ear not quite sitting right when alert but a quality dog who I really considered hard for BOB.
BEARDED COLLIE
SY - 1 & BOB Salmon's Potterdale Piper. Sadly all the other entries were absent but I was over the moon to go over this quality male who literally made my day when he walked in and I hoped he felt as nice as he looked. Standing he looks an absolute picture with a lovely flowing line from his head into a level back and onto a sloping croup and low set tail. Forelegs are straight and well tucked in with good length of rib, strong loin and well angulated rear, long tail which he carried low on the move. All coupled with a well presented long double coat that just enhanced his good confirmation. I couldn't take my eyes off him in the group. Well done.
BELGIAN SHEPHERD DOG (TERVUEREN) Two very nice confident and attentive exhibits.
O 1 & BOB Chamberlin's Belsharose Sweet Success at Merlinbach. Carrying a very nice coat with a ruff round the neck, attractive head with good length of muzzle, good bite, dark eyes, moved well in all directions. 2 Elliott's Sulanevaeh Raul Thane. A little on the thin side for my preference but good head, well let down chest, strong and straight front, good bend of stifle, efficient mover.
ROUGH COLLIE
SY - 1 Lister's Ladner Quick Step at Newarp. Very dense coat throughout which fitted body shape, head in proportion to body, good length of muzzle, well set tipped ears, intelligent and alert expression, moved with enthusiasm, a little overweight for my preference. L 1 Cooper's Lanlin Daydreamer of Kelekona. In superb coat and condition right down to the skin, plenty of muscle to allow him to move enthusiastically around the ring and of correct weight but was plaiting as he came towards me, ear set appeared a little low and was reluctant to use them. O 1 & BOB Benton & Smith's Brooklynson El Dorado. Smooth, sound and powerful mover and of good size, make and shape, topped with a balanced head, well used ears and obliquely set eyes, coat of good length and accentuating a pleasing outline and well groomed all through. 2 Lister's Jotars Platinum Moon at Newarp. Plenty of coat on this attractive blue merle who was a little reluctant to use his ears, straight front, well angulated shoulders, moderate round bone, elbows tight, good depth of chest, hocks well let down, underneath the impressive top coat - undercoat needs attention.
SMOOTH COLLIE
L - 1 Benton's Oakestelle Artemis. Excellent head shape and proportions with medium sized tipped ears, lovely length of neck, firm back line, good spring of rib, good set on of tail, was a little erratic on the move but very attentive to handler and shown to advantage. OB Really liked the movement of these two. 1 & BOB Benton's Oakestelle Venus De Milo. Preferred more compact proportions and expression over 2. with excellent, short and smooth topcoat, flexible pasterns - a real joy to watch on the move. 2 Griffiths' Alopex Little Summer. Holds a very good shape standing and moving and extends with good reach and full of drive, very accurate to and fro and at 10 years old she's just starting to show her age and was a little reluctant to use her ears naturally but a very nice exhibit.
OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOG
P - 1 & BP Howsam's Melleonars Go For Gold at Jandoes (Imp). Classically marked, square in profile, straight front, feels good to go over, plenty of confidence for just a 7 month old baby but tired quite easily on the move, but he had had a long wait to get into the ring, handler might consider taking a longer stride to encourage this youngster to stride out even more. L 1 & BOB Pullen's Honky Tonk Blues for Meadowbears. Really impressed with the movement on this dog who was sound and smooth and plenty of verve, not in the best of coats but nice black nose and bright expression and good rise over the loin.
AV PASTORAL - Almost every exhibit amongst the AVs was a Border Collie and I really enjoyed getting my hands on some good dogs in this breed.
P - 1 Oliver's Tambuzi Stryka Blow, Border Collie. My notes say - what a cracker! Classically marked and everything in the right place at this stage with nothing overdone, pleases in head too with a keen and intelligent expression and beautifully tipped ears, presented and handled to advantage. Its his movement that truly sets him apart - his head lowers and tail drops on the move as should in this breed and totally is so effortless and smooth and very accurate out and back. No hesitation in awarding him the puppy group and was so delighted to hear he went BPIS too. I will watch his progress with interest. J - 1 Murfet & Ratcliffe's Arrodare Royal Approval, Border Collie. Beautifully presented male who was lively and raring to go, handler did well to keep him calm, medium bone, I'd like a better shoulder but good length of rib and firm strong topline, sloping croup into low set tail of good length, doesn't quite have the front and rear extension in side movement. L 1 Frawley's Littlethorn Interceptor, Border Collie. Very attractive head on this handsome darker boy with the most beautiful oval shaped eyes that were dark in colour, correct length of foreface and good back skull, plenty of substance about him without appearing coarse, straight front, excellent shoulder and tight in the elbow, good rear quarters too, just such a shame he wanted to fly his tail on the move. 2 Brierley's Goytre First Edition P-Beg Ex, Border Collie. Lovely balance and athletic appearance from this male with classical markings that accentuate his good length of neck and shoulder placement, the best of toplines, good spring to rib, strong in the loin and strong rear pasterns in excellent clean condition but his front and ear placement could be better along with not flying his tail. O - 1 Jones' Sianworth Highland Mist Over Keltiklan, Border Collie. Really nice classical body shape on this black tri and she uses her excellent front and rear angulation to power around the ring with a tireless smooth action holding her tail and head low too. Her forelegs could be straighter but she has good width, topped with a very pleasing head and expression. V - 1 Greening's Arniston Spring Sunshine at Kanamaren, Border Collie. I've never seen this girl look better, with just the right amount of coat which was presented well to accentuate her beautiful proportions, she doesn't want to carry anymore weight over the shoulders as her neck is already of just adequate length but wow, when this girl moves, she shows typical minimal lift of feet and powers round like this breed should, very pretty head and with typical keen and alert expression. 2 Ghostrider of the M with T, Australian Shepherd. 3 Legerton's Ermyn Flickering Flame at Solaw, Welsh Corgi (Pembroke).
PASTORAL GROUP - A particularly strong group with many excellent BOB winners going unplaced in the group on the day. 1 Bearded Collie. 2 Thornley & Withers' Mitchfields Fashion Girl at Felthorn, Shetland Sheepdog. In excellent coat, beautiful head of excellent proportions with pretty tipped ears, strong body, moved extremely well around the ring and with confidence. 3 Baverstock's Kalkasi Super Cool, Pyrenean Mountain Dog. A powerful and sound mover in excellent coat with a gorgeous head. 4 Oliver's Arrodare Game On, Border Collie. Another excellent exhibit from this owner, excelled on the move with typical low head and tail carriage but plenty of reach and drive.
PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP - 1 Border Collie. 2 Norris' Sandyvalley Basil Brush, Shetland Sheepdog. Another super exhibit put through by the breed judge, confident mover with plenty of style. 3 Down's Elessar Royal Trinket, Welsh Corgi (Pembroke). very nicely handled and presented and attractive head with good strong movement. 4 Baverstock's Kalkasi The Eternal Chase, Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Would've been higher in the placings but just started to play up at this point so paid the rice sadly. But a very promising exhibit.
AV PUPPY STAKES - 1 T Stryka Blow, Border Collie. 2 Davison's Hopecharm Midnight Cowboy for Braxquin, West Highland White Terrier. Nothing phased this youngster who was compact in body and appealed in head, strong firm short back and high set tail, cracking mover. 3 Tate's Nathaniel Forum Romanum (Imp), Italian Greyhound.
