A very well organised show with super secretary, Bill Molton, at the helm making sure everything went smoothly. A big thanks to my two stewards, Julie and Wyn Howells who kept my ring flowing smoothly and efficiently and provided good entertainment throughout the day. Thank you so much to all the exhibitors who entered and took all my decisions in a sporting manner. I had an extremely enjoyable day judging your dogs.
BEST IN SHOW went to Mill's Labrador Trendlewood Day Dreaming. She caught my eye on entering the ring with her efficient and free, ground covering gait, she was straight and true in all directions and she had a short and dense coat with a good covering of fat without appearing bulky and fat, extremely pleasing in head which was balanced and with an intelligent expression, she never stopped showing throughout and with huge credit to her clever young handler who simply got the best out of her - I had no hesitation in awarding her best in show.
RESERVE BEST IN SHOW went to Eason's West Highland White Terrier Andjoliam Silent Witness. What an extremely well presented, short, and compact smart young dog who really took my eye as he first made his entrance into the ring. He possessed everything I was looking for in a group winner - proud, alert and showing off to the audience holding his well set tail carried bolt upright throughout his performance. He combined this with an exquisite and typy head piece with medium sized eyes and small erect ears to give that typical piercing and alert expression.
BEST PUPPY IN SHOW went to Morris' Siberian Husky Cwnhapus Innoko, a real showman in full coat and powered around the ring with a free and effortless stride, which at the end of a long day, was most impressive as it appeared this working dog could've gone on long into the night. Confident in nature and of good disposition, he stood so soundly and four-square on strong, oval feet, his tail was carried in that perfect sickle curve just above the back and he used his well laid back shoulders to reach in front with each step. An exciting prospect indeed.
RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW went to Dunn's Toy Poodle Aedan The Little Devil at Valetta. I see "bred in the purple" and a real cracker for one so young, demonstrated that typical sound, free and light movement and in excellent coat and clip to show off his virtues, plenty of body underneath that exquisite presentation and with good tail and head carriage, a real confident dog who moved so well in all directions.
BEST VETERAN IN SHOW went to Baker's Basenji Ch Silverbriar Mirror Image JW who I had judged earlier in the afternoon and seemed to never tire nor look anywhere near her age - in fact she was on her toes throughout, alert, finely boned with a flat, well-chiselled head topped with pricked ears. Strong and muscular hindquarters which she used to propel herself around the ring with that typical swift, long and tireless stride. Not surprised to see she is a Champion!
RESERVE BEST VETERAN IN SHOW went to Richardson & Richardson & Wilson's Cesky Terrier Ch/Can Ch Alchemy Chalma Figaro Talyot ShCM who was strongly muscled and in beautiful coat condition and presented to advantage, with a long slightly arched head, medium length of neck, topline slightly rising and parallel hind legs, brisk and vigorous accurate movement from all directions. Another, I wasn't surprised to see was titled.
AV IMPORT REGISTER. 1 Dennis's Bailey of Sereno Spirit (Imp Esp), White Swiss Shepherd. Seven year old male in great nick and well muscled, moved with ease and particularly strong parallel rear legs when trotting away. Prick ears were set on high and medium in size, body was correct for proportion - slightly longer than height, long, low set tail. 2 Kirk & Turley's Angelcrest Shadow Master, Xoloitzcuintle (Mex Hairless) Min, happy and alert in nature with smooth, soft skin, erect ears, with almond shaped eyes, strong topline, medium bend of stifle, sloping croup, a little weak in front pasterns and elbows could be tighter.
FINNISH LAPPHUND. O - 1, BOB and G1 Beastall & Arscott's Infindigo Mailat Loki ShCM RL1EX. Strongly built in profuse coat with abundant mane, strong head with good length of muzzle, well placed eyes, erect ears set high on the head and always being used, straight front, chest reaching to elbow, firm back, good bend of stifle and strong hocks, medium length of tail with plenty of furnishing and set high and carried over back - really good mover in all directions and on his toes throughout, well handled. Close to getting RBIS.
GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG. PG 1 Hudson's Toilers Sorrel. Good head size in proportion to body, tapering muzzle, medium sized almond shaped eyes, fairly long in neck and good lay back of shoulder, medium sized prick ears set high and carried forward and continuously being used, moved steady in all directions but needs more strength to rear. 2 & BP Clinton's Westlawn Odette. Very lively but of good bone and substance, longest of tails, muscular neck, attractive head, a little apprehensive in this venue but got much more confident and settled as the day went on. O 1, BOB & G4 Stephens' Brightmeadow Rags To Riches. The best of fronts on this girl, good width and layback of shoulder, strong bone, deep chest, firm topline, muscular rear quarters which were well angulated, tail reaching to floor and set on low and carried low, really demonstrates a smooth and long stride with complete soundness, just would prefer her to use her ears more.
ROUGH COLLIE. O 1 & BOB Walton's Markenfield Sirius Black at Waltstar. Dense coat which fit the outline of his body and I was happy to see groomed right through to the skin, even underneath, balanced in profile with a good sloping croup and tail carried with a slightly upward swirl, head was a clean blunt wedge, ears tipping forward but could've been a touch higher set, strong front legs, rear not quite so straight, moved happily in all directions.
SAMOYED. O 1, BOB & G3 Leader & Wright's Angelicus Que Sera Sera at Bjelkier ShCM. Striking girl beautifully presented in dense ice white coat, topped with an attractive head and with typical smiling Sammy expression, dark pigmentation round eyes and nose, small thick ears that she could've used better, powerful mover in all directions with a high set tail carried over back with plenty of furnishing.
SHETLAND SHEEPDOG. J - 1 John's Jolex Silver Sixpence with Cadlyn. Rather nervous youngster but alert to his surroundings, with well placed tipped ears, keen expression, tapering muzzle, harsh texture of outercoat on body, long, low set tail, straight forelegs coming towards. PG - 1 J Silver Sixpence with C. O 1 & BOB John's Jolex Gadno Arian with Cadlyn. Good size male with attractive balanced head and high set tipped ears which he continuously used, alert expression, strong forelegs, firm body, medium rear angulation, in profuse double coat, moved OK, long, low tail carriage.
WELSH CORGI (PEMBROKE). 1 & BOB Jones' Ceranda Surf's Up. Top size male in good coat and condition, appealing head with large pricked ears that were slightly rounded, plenty of forechest, strong back, ribs well sprung, good mover. 2 Garrett's Jahnshaus Jenny Wren at Beaumilands. Lovely veteran girl who was really on her toes, a little soft in topline, foxy head with round dark brown eyes, sweet expression, moved very positively round the ring.
WELSH CORGI (CARDGAN). PG 1 & BP and PG1, Siviter's Faywaidd Spice, super chunky, happy, lovely youngster with positive and active movement in all directions carrying tail typically a little higher than topline, very appealing in head with large ears and alert and intelligent expression, plenty of forechest and felt good to go over. A Nice prospect. O 1 & BOB and G2 Williams & James' Ch Bwthyn Headliner JW ShCM. I see sire to the previous winner and I can see where he has passed on some of his super attributes, forearms correctly slightly bowed and feet turning out, extremely well handled and presented to get the best from him, makes a sturdy and tough side appearance with fox like head, level topline and clearly defined waist. 2 Sivitier's Rubegud Takin The Mick ShCM, heavier set all through but alot to like about him, masculine head but incorrect bite, rounded tips on the long ears, deep brown eyes, strong body, topline and rear quarters.
AV PASTORAL NSC - PG 1, BP & PG3 Martin & Howard's Shandlmain Blu Chief, Smooth Collie. Cracking 6 month old baby who was very confident for age and took the whole event in his stride, of good size, make and shape and making a very balanced outline already, attractively marked with classic white collar, head developing well too, moving well in all directions for such a baby - would like to see him in the future. 2 Thomas' Mournebrake Bad Biscuit, Hungarian Puli. Another super pup full of the joys of spring with straight front, slightly longer length to body than his kennel mate in 3rd but head handles well with good pigmentation on nose and eyes and inside mouth, brisk movement. 3 Rathband's Mournebrake A Star Is Born to Keynell. Hungarian Puli. O 1 & BOB Price's Starvon Xpress Delivery at Coningsbear ShCM. Swedish Valhund. Well built male on short but strong legs with good front and rear angulation and strong topline, well defined stop, good length of muzzle, moved well in all directions, in excellent coat and condition and belies his age.
AV PASTORAL- P 1 S Blue Chief. 2 M A Star Is Born. Third in previous puppy class but went so much better in this class to beat her brother. 3 M Bad Biscuit. V 1 - S Xpress Delivery at C. 2 Thomas' Mouornebrake Flower Child, Hun Puli. Square profile on this girl, strong and sturdy in body with high tail set and carriage, moved well around the ring, cording was long in places but not as profuse and even which spoilt the outline a little. 3 J Jenny Wren at B.
JUNIOR HANDLING
6-11 years old. 1 and Best Junior Handler. Carys Powell with a Dalmatian. As a regular exhibitor of this breed, I know how hard it is to keep a Dalmatian's attention focussed on the handler and Carys seemed to have a natural rapport with this dog so he continuously watched and waited for her next command or gesture. Carys also looked like she genuinely absolutely loved being in the ring with her dog and listened carefully to what I asked and gave a good attempt at her ring patterns. All the basics are there - just needs polishing up with the finer technical details such a showing the mouth correctly but a great team who with more practise and learning could easily see plenty of success as a duo. 2 Lily Walton handling a Rough Collie. Lily looked really calm and at ease showing her dog who moved well when she asked of him. She attempted to free stand her dog and carefully using her bait to get his attention. Just try and focus on your own performance with your dog and try not to look out of the ring too much in future.
ADULT HANDLING
17-25 years. 1, best adult handler and best overall handler. Rebecca Mills handling a Labrador. These two handlers could swap places on another day. Rebecca pipped Ffion at the post today with a slightly more fluid and smooth performance. She is a dream to watch as she literally allows the dog to shine with minimal fuss but with superb lead control, always aware of my position and with fluid change overs and smooth pattern work. She came into the best in show ring with another Labrador later in the day and again put on a star performance to go Best In Show. A very bright future for this polite, naturally gifted and gentle young handler. 2 Ffion Thomas handling a Chihuahua, using another free stood breed and has a kind and sympathetic handling style which totally suits the breed, her lines are super straight and turns neat as required, very nice teeth presentation on such a small mouth and always encouraging her dog at every turn. She's one of my favourite handlers but just pipped on the day. 26-40 years. 1 Zetor Perkins handling a Whippet. A very good performance from Zetor who clearly knew how to stack her Whippet to advantage on the table with minimal fuss but great accuracy, she gaited her dog at the correct pace and had a suitable stride to accentuate her dog's movement, could do with smartening up a little in presentation for a handling class and teeth work needs to improve. 2 Linzii Walton handling a Rough Collie, I liked Linzii's gentle manner with her dog who wasn't being the most enthusiastic in the free-stand - she attempted on several occasions to get some ear movement from her dog using her bait but didn't quite have the dog stood four square, she was confident when walking the dog on the patterns. 55 years plus. 1 Janeet Rice handling a Tibetan Spaniel. This handler meant business right from the moment she walked into the ring - determined to put on a star performance and did not disappoint! She free stood her dog in a calm manner but the dog always happy and looking at its best when I looked over, really confident and accurate pattern work too with good lead placement and a good speed. 2 Glenda Tibbotts handling a Boxer. Really impressed with this handler as she clearly had a sore leg so I was dubious whether she could run at speed with her breed but was so delighted to see she moved her dog accurately and with correct stride and speed. Her stacking was spot on too, clearly knowing how to stack her dog quickly without any extra movements. 3 Kathryn Thomas.
AFGHAN HOUND - PG 1, BOB, BP and PG3 Cowley & Mahoney Cowley's Hariri Ebn Mahsati Von Haussman (Imp Chi). What a cracking baby, full of type and substance, straight front, noble head with good strength of muzzle, muscular neck, firm back, excellent rear angulation, with a correct ring to his tail, springy gait but sadly finding the venue a little bit overwhelming on the day. Hope to see him settle down in the future as he's a quality baby.
BASENJI - O 1 & BOB Ch S Mirror Image. Critique above in BVIS. 2 McCarthy's Westlawn Ruby Slippers. Compact body, pleasing head and ear placement, excellent pigment round eyes, straight front, fine and long legs, tail could be a touch tighter and didn't have the front or rear extension of 1 on the move, well handled and presented.
BORZOI - O 1 Umfreville's Manitias Silver Prince of Voyshka. Good size male with strong body, curved backline, sloping croup, long low set tail, straight front with good width, ample bone, long elongated head and good length of muzzle, little bit erratic on the move but held his tail correctly with powerful rear drive.
DEERHOUND - O 1 Taylor's Cotherstone Dalmore. Roughcoated male of good size, make and shape, straight forelegs, clean but strong neck, firm topline with a well arch to loin, well angulated rear, moved well, tail was long and thick at root and raised on the move.
RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK - O 1 & BOB Jone's Sofala Liberty Belle, Pretty girl of good type, size and balanced profile, strong topline, good crown and ridge, strong compact feet, muscular neck, clean outline, moved happily and accurately in all directions, but sadly due to a previous scare at ringcraft she wouldn't let me go over her despite a few attempts. I hope the owner can keep up with the confidence training and continue to pursue her show training. She's a lovely girl.
AV HOUND NSC - PG 1 & BP Lewis' Trixhund Obsession. L/H Dachs. So well presented and handled, pleasing head and kind eye, strong long neck leading into well laid back shoulders, plenty of forechest and good width of front, firm back, short strong legs, long tail carried slightly higher than level with back. 2 Matthews Stanegate Billy The Kid. W/H Dachs. Another very nice puppy with alot to like, balanced head with good eye set and ear placement, long neck which was clean and into good shoulder layback and matching length of upper arm, elbows tight, well ribbed, best of toplines which he held on the move, very close up to 1. 3 Rankine's Allfreys Me And My Girl, W/H Dachs. O 1, BNSC & G4 Lewis' Trixhund Hi De Hi JW, L/H Dachs. Beautifully conditioned young girl with plenty of furnishings especially on ears and such a sweet expression from those well placed deep brown eyes, best of forechests, strong forelegs, tight feet, well ribbed, firm back, strong quarters allowing her to propel herself with each stride. 2 Griffiths & Mortimore's Houndseeker Alaric. Bloodhound. I really liked this hound who screamed breed type and was full of mischief, just needed to tone that down a touch so I could assess his movement without a hop skip or pacing! Great ears which were long, soft and hanging low, pronounced occiput, strong muzzle with good depth, good depth of chest, firm strong topline, a little weak in the rear but could tighten up with more muscle in rear quarters.
AV HOUND P - 1 S Billy The Kid. Second in AV NSC PG. 2 Mantle's Roo Roo's Chocolate Minion at Rhiewvalley. Min smooth Dachs. Just 6 months and quite raw and needs to develop in confidence, dainty ears, ample forechest, moved well. V - 1 Ch S Mirror Image, Basenji. 2 Anthony's Ospreagle Just Because, Beagle. Truly personified the merry in the characteristics of the Beagle, lively and on her toes but showing good reach and drive with a high tail set and carriage, best of toplines which was level in stack and on the move, topped with a pretty head, long low set leathers and kind expression, good rear quarters and of correct weight.
G1 Basenji, G2 Beach's Izia Klara Difino (Imp Svn). Min Smooth Dachs. Very smart confident male of good weight and size and in excellent condition. G3 Whippet. G4 L/H Dachs.
This was a very good quality puppy group and the two that didn't get placed were that good - they could've won a puppy group on another day. PG1 Beagle Caple's Morsefield Mudlark. Very attractively marked and well boned youngster with a good width and breadth to skull and square muzzle, strong neck, good front angulation, well ribbed, strong level topline, firm rear quarters which he used to stride well round the ring with a well carried high tail. Promising youngster indeed. Had him for top honours in BPIS but he just was outperformed by some older puppies. PG2 Rees & Jones' Kierpark You Are My Sunshine. Very promising Whippet puppy of 6 months but full of quality, so sound on the move and well-schooled with a very nice head. PG3 Afghan. PG4 Min Smooth Haired Dachs.
STAKES- AV P - 1 David & Saunders Dallydyl The Loving Spirit, Dalmatian. A cracking Liver dog of excellent size, type and substance with the most gorgeous head and expression, strong neck, good shoulder placement, well ribbed, firm back and strong rear angulation with the best of tail sets and carried nicely, a lovely mover in all directions. 2 Rice's Ricox All About Love, Tib Spaniel. Quality bitch with an appealing head and expression, strong level topline and in excellent coat and handled very well. 3 Chudley's Kabocha Peter Pan, Jap Spitz.
AV - J 1 Johnson's Tarnlaikers Perfect Pink. Nova Scotia Duck Toller, have watched this lady develop and I still think she's a quality girl, and feels really good to go over, she excels on the move with a free and easy stride with a pleasing high tail carriage that completes the picture. I believe this win gave her their last JW point. Congratulations. 2 Silgie Stilgie Fox's Olivesong's Chase The Memory to Teisgol, Pointer. Very handsome youngster who presented an extremely pleasing side profile picture and he moved very well in all directions. 3 Edwards' Afterglow Bang Tidy, Am Cocker Spaniel. OD 1 Morgan's Morgold Magwitch, Goldie. 6.5 year old but looking a picture standing and moving, in great condition, with ample bone, good breadth and width to skull, strong rear quarters. 2 Owens' Frishbeck Guitarman, Westie. Made a very nice compact picture standing but just a little reluctant on the move, good tail set, strong neck with a slight arch, straight forelegs. 3 Murphy's Black Royal at Rhosyndu, Beagle. OB 1 Rice's Ricox Somebody To Love JW ShCM, Tib Spaniel. What a gorgeous bitch who can't seem to stand wrong as she's built so well, good breadth to skull, near ears with plenty of fringing, ample forechest, deep chest, firm loins, high set tail carried over back, a real eye catcher. 2 Currie's Venustus Dyeamond Showgirl for Faehat. Affenpinscher. A little character, full of sass and with plenty of breed type and sympathetically handled, positive mover in all directions. Brace - 1 Currie's Affenpinschers, so well matched for size, make and shape and both showing simutaneously on the move, a real perfect duo. 2 Murphy's Beagles. Another lovely pairing and so much harder in a breed where they come in all different markings and colours. 3 Owen's West High White Terriers.
