WEST OF ENGLAND DACHSHUND ASSOCIATION OPEN SHOW

20 OCTOBER 2019

MARC SMITH (CONCHUR)

Thank you to the exhibitors today for bringing their lovely dogs to my first breed club show appointment. I hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did and I was extremely pleased to find such wonderful temperaments and type throughout the classes, not just in my winners.

Dachshund (Standard Smooth)

PD/B (1) 1 Chauhan’s Adnerbs Take A Chance On Me at Raajput, beautiful, feminine b/t bitch 12 months on the day. Pleasing outline with a lovely topline and super head and expression. She had the most wonderful temperament and moved well with purpose. I appreciated her well-developed chest, correct feet and was more than happy to award her BP, as well as going close for BOB.

JD/B (2) 1 Chapman-Reith’s Wanderhund Lets Celebrate for Hayvenhund JW, what the class lacked in numbers it made up for in quality as it was a tough choice between two more lovely girls. My winner was a 17 month b/t bitch who, despite appearing quite well-covered today and not displaying the arrogant head carriage I like to see, won on her feminine head, sound movement, sweet temperament and overall proportions. 2 Stark’s Adnerbs Won Vision of Gobbanium, red litter sister to my previous class winner. She had an excellent topline and temperament and although had a pleasing head, I preferred the more feminine head of my class winner. Although she moved well, I preferred the rear movement of 1.

PGD/B (1) 1 Jones’ Adnerbs Rock A Billy Rebel JW, handsome red male of almost 2 years. He was a leaner type but had a pleasing outline and an elegant yet masculine head with good expression. Another dog with a wonderful temperament and very good topline. I appreciated his reachy neck and head carriage on the move and he was very much at one with his handler.

LD/B (3) 1 Chauhan’s Raajput’s Any Victory Will Do, 17 month male with an excellent head and correct topline. He moved well with drive, keeping his pleasing balanced outline. He had good feet and moved with drive but in the challenge he didn’t demonstrate the same spark as my BOB and BP. 2 Jones’ Adnerbs Lexi Get Fizzical JW ShCM, feminine red bitch of 4 years with a sweet expression and feminine head. She had a lovely reachy neck and moved well once she settled into her stride. Although she was of a smaller type, she was well-proportioned although I would prefer better feet.

OD/B (3) 1 Chauhan’s Ch Wanderhund Viva Las Vegas, 2 year old b/t male of a larger type but in excellent proportions with an eye-catching masculine head, which he arrogantly carried on the move. As with all the Smooths today, he had a sound temperament and I was more than happy to award him BOB, edging it on his commanding ring presence and front movement. 2 Hunt’s Ch Lauralee Huckleberry Finn at Carpaccio JW, another 2 year old male who gave my class winner more than a run for his money. He was of a type that I like, with his masculine head, reachy neck and excellent topline. Although he moved very well, my class winner edged it on tidier rear movement.

Dachshund (Miniature Smooth)

PD/B (5) Always an interesting class to judge with a variety of types, sizes and ages. 1 Rose’s Ardenrun Foolish Whisper, a feminine red btich of almost 7 months who moved well and showed so much confidence for a youngster. She had a lovely outgoing temperament and a good topline which she held on the move. Elbows could be tighter but otherwise a promising pup who I was pleased to also award BP. 2 Dunhill’s Gellijams Russian Sun, red dog of 9 months who was a similar type to my class winner and had a good topline. He didn’t have the same ring presence of my class winner and I preferred the rear movement of 1, but otherwise a nicely proportioned dog of good type and size.

JD/B (4, 1a) 1 Hunt’s Wolferlow George Brown at Carpaccio, chocolate boy of nice type and size with a good topline which he also held on the move. He had a lovely masculine head although perhaps too round in the eye. He won this class on his movement, excelling in rear movement on the others in the class and he had good, correct feet. 2 Dunhill’s Gellijams Russian Sun.

SBD/B (3) 1 Kilroy’s Janacop Maggie May, 2 year old b/t bitch of a smaller type but very well proportioned. She had a sweet, feminine head and excellent topline which she held on the move. Her head carriage wasn’t the best on the day but she scored in ribbing and movement. 2 Poulier’s Auradach Alfred the Great, 14 month b/t dog of a slightly larger type but nicely proportioned. He had good feet and moved well and scored on his head carriage, although his topline was ok.

PGD/B (6, 2a) 1 Kilroy’s Janacop Maggie May, my previous class winner won on her overall proportions and topline. 2 Dunhill’s Hollybirch Golden Sun at Gellijam, red bitch of nearly 17 months, would have preferred more ground clearance but otherwise good proportions and topline. She had good feet and moved well.

LD/B (1,1a)

OD/B (2) 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Clarice Cliff JW, b/t bitch of nearly 2 years, lovely type and good proportions. She moved well and held her topline. Although I preferred the rear movement and head of 2, she won this class on her movement, head carriage and topline. She was also my BOB today. 2 Dunhill’s Shantallah Shady Lady at Gellijam, 2 year old red bitch with a lovely feminine head and reachy neck, although she was nudged by 1 on her movement and front assembly.

VD/B (1) 1 Rollinson’s Ch Cwmdarhian Lady Marmalade by Diamonddax JW ShCM, sweet red bitch just 7 years old and of pleasing type shown in excellent condition. Although her head is smaller and she had less ground clearance than I prefer, she was nicely proportioned and had correct feet and a very good topline, which she held on the move. She moved well with good head carriage.

Dachshund (Miniature Long)

PD/B (2) 1 Butler’s Drymoor Silver Thrup’ney Bit, 8 month old nicely marked silver dapple dog who was of an ideal size and I liked his overall proportions and length. For a youngster, he had a lot of ring presence and carried his masculine head well on the move. Although I preferred the eyes of 2 and would have liked a cleaner front movement, he won the class on his size, type, correct feet and coat. My BP today. 2 Le Page’s Thelepees Pennyblack Silk, 11 month old b/t bitch of a smaller type to 1 with a feminine head. She moved well and had good front/rear action but I preferred the overall proportions and movement of 1.

PGD/B (7 3a) 1 Wallace’s Willowheath Rebel Rock, b/t dog of almost 3 years who is of much larger type but otherwise was well-proportioned and, despite his size, I felt he was a worthy class winner with his excellent topline, correct coat which was sufficient but did not conceal his outline, and his purposeful movement. I also appreciated his correct feet and sound temperament. Was pleased to award him BOB today. 2 Butler’s Drymoor Dark N’delicious, 21 month bitch who was of a longer type with a nice head, neck and front, although I preferred the topline and movement of 1.

LD/B (4, 3a) 1 Macmichael’s Cheniesvilla Prince Casper, 19 month dog of good size and proportions, although would have preferred a more masculine head. He had good feet and moved ok, keeping his topline on the move, but didn’t have the same ring presence of my other class winners once he was in the challenge.

OD/B (5, 2a) 1 Latham-Jackson’s Dolyharp Purcell of Urishay, b/t dog of nice type with a good topline which he held on the move. He had good feet but I would have preferred more neck. He wasn’t overly coated and moved well. 2 Richardson’s Drymoor Dark Drifter, a handsome b/t boy with an excellent houndy head who moved well with a very good topline and proportions. Unfortunately, he was too large, albeit all in proportion, to award the class win, but otherwise a very eye-catching dog.

VD/B (7, 2a) 1 Latham-Jackson’s Ch Urishay Sweet Pea, a 7 year old b/t bitch who really appealed to me, and I was close to awarding her BOB. She excelled in topline and won the class on her movement and overall length. She had a correct coat and good ribbing. Pleased to award her BV. 2 Davis’ Corrinbar Crystal Blue, 10.5 year old bitch with a nice topline and feminine head, but I preferred the feet, neck and topline of 1.
