Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge the Utility group & for the excellent catering on the day; to the exhibitors for their entries & sportsmanship - I had many good dogs to choose from; and my steward Wilf who kept me right

Temperaments were all very good

German Spitz (mittel) Open (2)

1st Purves' Bulabs QE Beauty - Very promising cream baby of just 6 months. Feminine head with good dark pigment. Correct oval eye shape. Ears set high & well used. Good length of neck into a square body with the correct angulation. Excellent tail set & neat feet. She showed just enough movement to win the class but was rather bored after waiting for group BP, BOB & PG3

2nd Purves' Bulabs Blonde Lady - Dam of 1. 4yo pale cream feminine bitch with very good pigment. Correct scissor bite & good wedge head showing the required skull/muzzle ratio. Straight front with good bone. Not in full coat but it was of the correct texture. She was playing up on the move which made it difficult to assess

Dalmatian Open (2)

1st Noble's Ruebedu Sheik Yerbouti - 18months black spotted bitch of correct size. Excellent temperament & good for breed type. Good head with flat skull, dark oval eyes and scissor bite. Ears used well & spotted. Clean neck into a good front with very good angulation and a level topline into powerful hindquarters which produced sound movement from all angles. This was topped with attractive sharp black spotting on a dense white coat. Well handled BOB GP4

2nd Noble's Shulune Celtic Snapdragon of Ruebedu - Dam of 1. 5yo liver spotted bitch Bigger than 1 but still feminine. Another excellent temperament. Dark amber eyes & well broken ears. Correct forechest, deep brisket & good solid bone into tight feet. Presented in good clean condition . Just preferred movement of 1

Lhasa Apso Post Graduate (2,1 abs)

1st Chesterfield & Thompson's Burnsett Black Jack with Toynbee 8 months old Black & White dog Only a baby but showing much breed type. Very good temperament. Correct head with dark eyes, black nose & a good bite. Very nice body developing underneath a coat of the correct texture. Movement was good when he co-operated with his handler BP & PG2

Lhasa Apso Open (4, 1 abs)

1st Taylor & Johnson's Sifrasons Military Hero JW ShCM 2½yo gold dog Excellent breed type. Nice size and shape with a lovely head and expression. Well arched neck into a very good front assembly with straight legs & round cat-like feet. Level topline with a highset tail carried well over his back. Moved very freely once settled. He had an excellent coat of the correct texture which was presented to perfection. BOB G2

2nd Taylor's Kelankins By Design at Billkenstar 20months Gold dog of correct type with a very good temperament. Bigger & not as compact as 1 but still put together well Masculine head with a good mouth and dark pigment. Good angulation & substance underneath a well presented coat. Movement was very good; free & jaunty

3rd Chesterfield & Thompson's Toynbee Kookie Krumble with Burnsett

Shih Tzu Open (2, 1 abs)

1st Fairley's Rossvale Here Comes The Sun Over Fairmere 2½yo Gold & White dog Lovely masculine head & expression. Large, dark eyes & a square muzzle with correct undershot bite. Nicely arched neck into a a well laid back shoulder & broad chest. Solid body & well off for bone. Well angulated hindquarters producing the desired movement with excellent reach & drive. Level topline with a dense coat which was well presented. Pushed hard in the group BOB

Min Poodle (2, 1 abs)

1st Smart's VoodoolanBlack Magic Spell ShCM ShCEx 2½yo black dog who catches your eye immediately with his proud silhouette. Excellent breed type & temperament. Correct head with the desired chiselled foreface & scissor bite. He has the darkest almond shaped eyes with jet black rims. Good, clean neck into well laid shoulders & upper arm. Solid body, well sprung ribs, & short back into very good hindquarters with well let down hocks and small oval feet. This produced sound free movement with powerful drive. His head, topline & tail were carried proudly on the move. Very well presented & handled to advantage. BOB, G1 & delighted to see him go BIS later

Tibetan Terrier Open (2)

1st Taylor's Layoli Sea of Secrets - 11months well-grown black dog puppy with an almost square outline. Very good head with dark, round eyes & scissor bite. Pleasing expression. Level topline & well set tail which he held on the move. Good angulation with well let down hocks & showed positive movement. In good coat of correct texture & was presented very well. BP, BOB & PG1

2nd Taylor's Myrlea Supernatural Ink - 17months tricolour bitch Smaller than 1 but still presents a balanced outline. Good temperament. Nice head with a dark eye and feminine expression. Level topline and tail carried over the back. Moved well in profile but was a bit erratic away & back

AVNSC (3)

1st Greathead & Shearman's Glockens Raise The Stakes - Min schnauzer dog of 13 months. Pepper & salt. Scored for breed type & balance. Good temperament. Strong head, powerful muzzle and dark eyes with bushy eyebrows giving the required expression. Correct scissor bite. Clean neck into well layed shoulders. Firm body & strong bone. Good rear angulation down to tight cat-like feet. Topline & tail carried well. Harsh, wiry coat. Moved smartly round the ring BAVNSC & GP3

2nd Thomson's Tibbiestars Moulin Rouge - 3½yo red sable tibetan spaniel bitch with a balanced outline. This girl was so happy to be here - excellent temperament. Slightly domed head with a well cushioned muzzle & correct undershot bite. Feminine expression. Correct hare feet. Moved well when not bouncing
