Coventry & D.K.A. Open Show - 19th May 2019

Such a super venue and the show was run efficiently, with the thanks of my stewards who kept the ring running like clockwork. Thanks to all exhibitors for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner. I was looking for a balanced, elegant hound with a clean outline who moved out freely and was delighted with my winners, and quality of exhibits.

Whippet Puppy (7, 3 abs)

1st – Whitaker-Crosby’s Crosscop May Be One More at Mulcair

A sweet fawn bitch with white trim of just 6 months. She oozes an elegance and quality that demands attention and has a very gentle, sweet disposition. Her head is long and lean with bright oval eyes, her small ears compliment a feminine attractive expression. She has a strong muscular neck which leads to the cleanest of outlines. She has strong hindquarters and greatly developed second thighs. Stacked she looked a picture, but her real qualities really shone for me on the move where she effortlessly flowed freely with a long stride, moving low to the ground from the cleanest of fronts. I could have happily watched her move all day long and will watch her show career with great interest. BP & PG2.

2nd – Winstone’s Lolani Moonshine over Monelli

I found lots to like about this 10 month fawn with white trim boy. He is a nice size and not over done in any way. His head is masculine, long and with a strong jaw. His dark pigment added to a handsome head. He presents a balanced picture and was another with a clean, eye-catching outline. His ribs are well sprung, pasterns strong and his loin gives the impression of strength and power. On the move, he was true coming and going holding his topline. He gave his handler a bit of a hard time today and was unlucky to meet such an exquisite bitch in 1.

3rd – Becquet & Darby’s Falconcrag Miss Chanel Becscott

Whippet Junior (3)

1st Whitehead, Smith & Mixides’ Citycroft Ginger Rogers

An eyecatching red brindle bitch (with white trim) of 14 months. I loved her shape and size and felt she was in tip top condition. She has a sweet nature and was handled to perfection. Her head is the correct shape with oval, bright eyes and small, fine ears. She has an elegantly arched neck which is well muscled and leads on to an impressive outline. Her shoulders are well laid back and her chest is deep. She has moderate bone and stands on firm, oval feet with arched knuckles. I loved the graceful arch she has over her loin and that lead to a nicely set tail. On the stack, her hindquarters were strong and well angulated with her hocks being well let down. She was a delight to watch in profile, moving easily and holding her topline whilst her backend had great propelling power. In the challenge she really upped her game and I was happy to award her Best of Breed and later heard she was awarded Hound group 4.

2nd – Aylett’s Richclass Tyler’s Girl

A black brindle bitch who is approaching 18 months. Out of a larger mould than 1, but oozed breed type. She has a super sweet expression and showed well. Another with that beautifully arched neck that the standard calls for, clean laid back shoulders and a really pleasing outline. She has well sprung ribs, a firm muscular back and a beautifully curvy tuck up. Sympathetically handled to move well.

3rd – Handley’s Kingmaker Mary Poppins

Whippet Graduate (1)

1st – Pitcher’s Amphoras Magiq Promise

A fawn brindle boy with white trim. He is almost 18 months and presented a pleasing, mature figure. His head is a nice shape with slight stop, oval bright eyes and dark nose. He is well muscled and this showed on the move where he kept the correct topline. His coat is fine and short. I found him to have the correct moderate bladed bone and his pasterns have the desirable slight spring. He has a balanced outline and was very well handled and presented.

Whippet Open (3, 1 abs)

1st – Whitaker-Crosby’s Mulcair Meerkat Marble JW ShCM

Sweet fawn bitch of 6 years. I loved her for type, size and shape. She is perfectly balanced and had a real stamp of quality about her. Another from this owner who’s short, fine coat was presented in perfect condition and she was also handled to really get the best from her. I loved her correct head which was complimented by dark pigment. Her beautifully deep chest had plenty of heart room and she had a well filled in front. She has well laid back shoulders, good elbows and a strong neck which lead to her well muscled, firm back. She moved out soundly but I felt she lacked enthusiasm in the challenge. Her qualities could not be overlooked however and she did enough to be awarded RBOB.

2nd – Pitcher’s Lolani Tennesse Fire at Amphoras

2 year old fawn and white boy. Up to size and oozed masculinity. He has an appealing head with the correct oval eye and alert expression. His skull is flat on top and foreface long and lean. I loved his depth of chest and neat, tucked in elbows. His pasterns are strong with the desirable, spring and his feet are so correct with beautifully arched knuckles. I found him to have a correct rise over his loin which led to a well set tail. On the move he was free and easy striding. He was presented in super condition, was well muscled and well handled.
