East Anglian Whippet Club

East Anglian Whippet Open Show (Dogs) - 10th November 2019

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging at this friendly and well ran breed show. Many thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their whippets and accepting my decisions in such a sporting manner. I was looking for a balanced, elegant hound with a clean outline who could move out freely. My line up really pleased me and I was delighted with the quality of exhibits. I found my main winners exceptional and it was a pleasure to judge them.

Special Racing/Lure Coarsing Dog (2)

1st Webber’s Zoraden Paint It Black

Pleasing brindle boy of 2 years. He is masculine and athletic, combining strength and power. I liked his outline which was clean and showed a nice arch over his loin. His neck is muscular and widens gracefully into his good shoulders. He has a beautiful deep chest with plenty of heart room and well sprung ribs. His tail set is correct and he moved with purpose.

2nd Leathart’s Ringmore Dalrymple

Smaller than 1, this fawn boy of 5 years did not have the same ring presence about him. He has a beautiful, short coat and was presented in good condition. His head is masculine and the correct shape with a strong jaw. His bone is correct for size and he stands on good oval feet. He moved ok, but I preferred the easier, free stride of 1.

Minor Puppy Dog (10, 1 abs)

1st Price’s Railfield Rainomen for Silkdance

Impressive fawn boy of 8 months. I loved his shape and size. He has the cleanest of outlines from his long neck, well laid back shoulders through to the slight rise over his loin. His tailset and carriage was ideal. For me he was the best mover in class, moving freely with an easy low reaching stride. His coat was fine and short and he was presented beautifully. He has a real look of quality about him and should have a bright future.

2nd Bass & Hall’s Shalfleet New Moon Rising at Silverfirth

I found lots to like about this brindle particolour of 8 months. He has the most beautiful long and lean head with a dark, oval eye. He has a strong, clean cut jaw. His shoulders are good and his forearms are straight and upright. He moved out well and covered the ground with ease. He has an elegance about him and showed well. For me, I would personally prefer more rise over his loin, but he is young so this could come and finish off a super prosect.

3rd Yeates & Winter’s Zoraden Bright Star

Puppy Dog (5, 2 abs)

1st Byron’s Jasarat Gucci

A balanced 9 months, fawn and white boy who presented a pleasant and mature picture. He has an appealing head with oval eye and small, fine ears which he carried perfectly. His jaw is strong and his bite correct. I loved his elegantly arched, long, muscular neck which widened gracefully to his well laid back shoulders. His chest is deep and he carried the perfect amount of weight. He has a definite tuck up, good bend of stifle and well let down hocks. He moved truly with a long easy stride, covering the ground with ease. He was sympathetically handled to get the best from him and I was pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog.

2nd Smith & Coulter’s Stonefox Mean Mr Mustard

I loved this brindle boy of 9 months for his type and I felt that he oozed quality. His head is delightful and he has a charming and appealing expression, with a bright, alert oval eye. His neck is long and his shoulders are well laid back. His pasterns are strong and have a slight spring to them. He is shapely and has the most impressive hindquarters with strong broad thighs and well bent stifles. Unfortunately not the movement of 1 today.

3rd Yeates & Winter’s Zoraden Bright Star

Junior Dog (6, 3 abs)

1st Winkley-Balmer, Morris & Waddell’s Edenwhip Wayne’s World

An eye catching fawn of 13 months. He presents a balanced and elegant picture whilst being presented to perfection. He has a bright, alert eye and small fine ears. His jaw is strong and his bite correct. He has a deep chest and a well filled in front. His topline is well muscled and has a graceful arch over his loin. He stands on beautiful oval feet with well arched knuckles. His pasterns are strong and have the desirable slight spring to them. He has a sweet disposition and gave his all to his handler. They make quite the pair.

2nd Neale’s Runaround Jazz Singer at Stormalong

A more mature 13 month old fawn. Lots to like about him including his deep chest, well filled in front and sprung ribs. He has neat elbows falling directly under his withers. His forearms are straight and upright. I found him to be heavier throughout than 1. On the move his hind legs gave him power, but today he was toeing in slightly on his front leg leg.

3rd Winstone’s Lolani Moonshine Over Monelli

Yearling Dog (8, 2 abs)

A strong class headed up by 3 super boys.

1st Richard’s Richclass Run For Cover

This striking 23 months fawn with white trim boy caught my eye upon entering the ring. He has an elegance to him which screams whippet and he was a delight to get my hands on. His head is handsome and regal with a dark oval eye and the most appealing expression. His rose shaped, fine ears are carried perfectly and framed a long and lean skull. His neck is muscular, long and nicely arched leading to a super front construction of well laid back shoulders and straight forearms. His feet are nicely arched and his pasterns are strong. He has muscular quarters and well bent stifles. I felt that he presented a balanced picture of power and strength. He really excelled in the challenge, in profile, his long easy stride was effortless with his forelegs moving forward and low and his hindlegs giving great propelling power. To complete this already wonderful picture, he was presented and handled to perfection. I’ve no doubt his boy has a bright future ahead. Reserve Best Dog and upon the referee’s decision, Reserve Best in Show.

2nd Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Heatwave JW

There was so much to like about this brindle and white boy of 19 months. My notes say “head to die for”. His skull is lean and long, flat on top and tapers to his muzzle which has a slight stop. He has the most appealing expression with dark, oval bright eyes. His ears are rose shaped, small and fine, complimenting a sweet face. I loved his deep chest, well filled in front and well sprung ribs. His bone is correct and he has strong hindquarters with well developed second thigh. As eye catching as he was stacked, it wasn’t until she moved that her wow factor became apparent where his free and long strides really powered him round the ring. I found so much to like about this boy, though would prefer more of an arch over his loin to complete an otherwise superb picture.

3rd Mycroft & Brown’s Shiny Sensations Wish Upon a Star with Supeta JW (Imp NLD)

A quality dog I have admired from the ringside who was unlucky to meet 1 and 2 in such superb form.

Novice Dog (5, 2 abs)

1st Ainscough’s Kidaruka Mother of Mercy

A very correct fawn 14 month male. He had a real stamp of quality about him and was a pleasure to go over. I liked his size and shape and found his head to be masculine and appealing with a strong jaw and good ears. His dark pigment added to a handsome head. He presents a balanced picture and was another with a clean, eye-catching outline. His ribs are well sprung, pasterns strong and his loin gives the impression of strength and power. On the move, he was true coming and going holding his topline. Shown today in super condition with an excellent short coat.

2nd Byron’s Jasarat Gucci

1st in Puppy Dog

3rd Price’s Railfield Rainomen for Silkdance

Graduate Dog (4)

1st Winstone’s Lolani Moonshine Over Monelli

I have judged this fawn with white trim boy earlier in the year and today he stood 3rd in a strong junior class. He is a sweet boy of 16 months and has a super head with well carried fine ears. He is balanced with a clean outline, super ribs and a deep chest. For me, I would prefer there to be slightly more of him. On the move, he was true coming and going and held his topline. His tail carriage was perfect and he was the best mover in the class.

2nd Wood’s Ardencote What A Rogue

A fawn and white boy of 14 months who looked a picture stacked. He has a pleasing head with correct shaped eye, a good stop and a strong jaw. His neck is muscular and long and he stands on firm feet with well knuckled toes. He has a super chest with well sprung ribs and a strong loin. His front is tidy and he held his topline on the move.

3rd Lipton’s Cherubim’s Royal Prinz Peter (IMP Ger)

Post Graduate Dog (5, 1 abs)

1st Wilton-Clark’s Aaniston Celebrity News at Shalfleet (IMP Swe)

This 23 month fawn caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring. He has a composure of regality and poise that filled my eye and could not be overlooked. He is very masculine and well muscled throughout. His head pleased me and his eye was dark and correct. His neck is long and elegantly arched, widening gracefully to his correct shoulders. He has a super chest, well sprung ribs and deep brisket. His front is straight and upright, standing on good feet and slightly sprung pasterns. He has the beautiful clean outline that I was looking for, showing his rise of the loin and his excellent bend of stifle. I found him to be the truest mover in the class, moving forward with a low and easy step with his hind legs going well under his body with great propelling power. A super specimen who I am sure will excel.

2nd Allansson & MacDonald’s Jasarat Salted Caramel of Macalldon JW

Another quality boy who was a lovely shape. He is 18 months and a striking dark fawn and white colour. He has that beautifully arched neck that the standard calls for, clean laid back shoulders and a really pleasing outline. He has well sprung ribs, a firm muscular back and a beautifully curvy tuck up. I liked his tailset and well bent stifles. Sympathetically handled to really get the best from him and presented to perfection.

3rd Barkas’ Citycroft Fred Astaire

Mid Limit Dog (9, 4 abs)

1st Head’s Demerlay Snowy Owl

This 2 year old fawn boy has a real presence to him which was unquestionable on the move when he powered round the ring with such endurance and purpose. His movement showed such a freedom of action and in profile he had a splendid stride which was a joy to watch. He is true coming and going and moved with a powerful drive. He has a sweet and correct head, framed by delicate, small ears. I found him to be incredibly balanced and muscular from his long neck to his hind quarters. He has a strong, broad back which is firm and gracefully arched over his loin. There was a lot to like about this sympathetically handled, masculine boy.

2nd Price’s Wheelspin Silver Shadow Among Silkdance JW

A very honest 2 year old fawn. He has such a sweet disposition and gentle temperament that this breed is known for. Shown in super condition, he has an excellent short, fine coat and was well muscled. He has a pleasing head with a dark eye and he carried his ears correctly. His front is well fill in and his chest has plenty of heart room. His feet are oval with desirable well arched knuckles and his hocks are well let down. I found him to have more length than 1, however I felt he could not match 1’s movement today.

3rd Wood’s Ardencote Dating Destiny

Limit Dog (7, 2 abs)

An interesting class filled with variety. For some reason most of the males went a little giddy today so tail carriage was an issue until some finally settled – they were obviously thoroughly enjoying the day!

1st Morris & Waddell’s Crosscop I Want You

Once settled this gentle 2 year old brindle particolour could really be appreciated. He has a handsome sweet head and I loved his size and curvy shape. His eye is dark, oval and he has an appealing expression. His ears are small, fine and carried well. There is an elegance to him whilst he remained masculine and he was superbly handled. He is balanced with a beautiful rise over his loin and a definite tuck up. His feet are correct, he has well let down hocks and a spring to his pastern. He is well muscled and has moderate bladed bone. I liked so much about him and he was considered for top honours, I’m sure his day will come.

2nd Andrew & Rees Kierpark Hello Love JW

This silver brindle parti boy was right up my street. Unfortunately he gave his handler a real hard time today, which was a shame as I liked so much about him. He is handsome, elegant and full of breed type. He has a sweet, correctly shaped head with a super eye. He has curves in the right places and a super depth of chest, well filled in front and well sprung ribs. He moved soundly and with an abundance of enthusiasm!

3rd Pilkington & Myer’s Supeta’s Show and Tell Astrazone

Open Dog (7, 2 abs)

All 4 males were pleasing examples of the breed in varying ways and I felt I was simply nit picking today. I am sure on another day they would change places dependant on performance.

1st Shepherd’s Citycroft Sundae with Oxana JW ShCM ShCEx

A very honest type with a melting expression. He is a fawn boy with a white trim. Now 3 years old, he is a true professional in the ring and didn’t put a foot wrong for his handler. There is a real elegance about him and he has a beautiful outline. Shown in tip top condition, he is well muscled from his strong, arched neck to his rear quarters. I particularly liked his depth of chest, front assembly and broad back. On the move he had an easy stride and out moved the others.

2nd Lipton’s DE CH Jothryn Shimmering Gold

Another 3 year old boy. He is brindle with a white trim and very curvy. He has a long neck and carried his head well. He filled my eye both stacked and moving. I loved his masculinity and he has a short, fine coat. His outline is clean, with a definite tuck up and a delicate rise over his loin. Preferred the tail set and carriage of 1.

3rd Place & Halliday’s Aarminias Luv The Way You Lie JW

Upon entering the ring, I felt that this boy would be my winner. Stacked he is a picture of such quality, however was another today who became giddy on the move which was a shame.

Veteran Dog (6)

A strong class of quality dogs.

1st Whitehead, Smith & Mixides CH Citycroft Star Gazing Over Yialousa JW

Where do I begin describing this red fawn of 7 years…. He was everything I was looking for and, in my opinion, such a super example of the breed. Not exaggerated in any way, he possesses an elegance and grace whilst being strong and powerful. He is gentle and looks a delight to show. I loved his size and shape, which has a beautiful smooth rise over his loin and a precise tuck up. His head is so handsome, with a correct oval eye, strong jaw and delicate fine ears. His neck is strong, arched and well muscled, leading to a firm, broad back. He has such a super front construction which is so clean coming toward. He stands on excellent feet with strong pasterns. His stifles are well bent and his rear quarters muscular. I particularly like his long, tapering tail which is set perfectly and carried in a graceful manner. As delightful as this boy was stacked, it was on the move when he really shone and I could have watched him move all day long. He is so true coming and going and a real picture in profile with his long and easy stride moving him forward and low. He has such a freedom of action covering the ground. I had no hesitation in awarding his Best Dog today and was delighted to award him Best In Show with the agreement of my co-judge.

2nd Lowe’s Shirotae Spring Promise at Ousebank

This 8 year old fawn and white boy had the sweetest of natures and I found lots to like about him. He has a real stamp of quality and a great ring presence. He has a pleasing head with dark pigment and a strong jaw. His neck is strong, long and gracefully arched and he has the correct bladed bone for his size. He was very sound on the move and covered the ground freely and with ease. A credit to his owner.
