Norfolk & Norwich Canine Society

Norfolk & Norwich Canine Society – Open Show Sunday 21st July

Many thanks to the committee of this well run and well-respected club for their invitation to judge at the summer open show. I had a lovely entry and would like to take this opportunity to thank those exhibitors kind enough to enter under me for their support.

I love my hounds and have a passion for great movement in all the breeds hence my asking those handling their dogs to move a lot. I believe in giving each dog every opportunity to show to their best and although it was getting a bit warm inside appreciate the sportsmanship of all exhibitors in my final decisions. I ended up with a line-up of 4 top quality hounds in the adult group all of which would be worthy of top awards at champ show level – in my opinion and four very promising puppies. Delighted.

AFGHAN HOUNDS

Puppy (1,1)

Junior (2,0)

1.    Stewart & Teggarts Charjaghan The Olympic Lovely brindle dog of 13 months. Strong well balanced head, strong jaw, nice dark eyes and points, well set ears into good strong neck with lovely head carriage. Long sloping shoulders, well laid back. Nice tight elbows. Good length of body giving an overall well-balanced outline. Good short loin. Good straight forelegs – well boned - nice feet. Well angulated hind quarters used to good effect on the move. Once settled on the move correct fore and aft. Res BOB

2.    Casey’s Charjaghan The Aurora – litter brother to 1. Very similar comments apply to winner however on the day just not as settled in movement as his brother

Post Graduate (2,0)

1.    Casey’s Charjaghan Cullinan Another lovely red brindle of good proportions – same way bred to 2nd and the younger exhibits in Junior so a type could be seen through all these exhibits. Well balanced and nice outline. Won the class again on movement and gait.

2.    Stewart & Teggarts Charjaghan Excalibur Another quality exhibit from this breeder – sound all through but not the enthusiasm or confidence of the winner – preferred the movement of litter brother on the day.

1.    Stewart & Teggarts Charjaghan Hortensia – Super bitch of 3 years (litter sister to 1 & 2 in PG) – gold brindle of great outline held at all times – great head and eye strong jaw, lovely head carriage and strong neck flowing into correctly laid back shoulders. Nice and straight in front with good arched feet – presented and shown very well. Great topline into cracking well angulated hindquarters powerful driving gait – good action fore and aft. Caught my eye from entering the ring and for me the best of all the siblings. BOB

2.    Colletts Laavas Opportunity Network ShCM – Very well presented gold bitch of 3 years. A lot to like about her and had a great outline in the stack. Good hindquarters and nicely put together shoulders and front. Moved true fore and aft but for me not holding the topline on the move and would prefer a stronger jaw.

AVNSC Hound

Puppy (4,1) A lovely class of top quality pups all should do very well – judged on the day my preference:

1.    Cox’s Carlincox Pure Gold (Rhodesian Ridgeback) 9 months bitch of great elegance combined with muscular strength. Good head, nice broad flat skull nice length of muzzle, good strong neck into muscular sloping shoulders - beautifully straight forelegs. Chest developing very nicely and of a good depth at this age, good spring of rib and strong loin. Nice turn of stifle and good hocks, correct compact tight well arched feet. Lovely straight free movement and look a picture in profile on the move. Loved her and hope she confirms her early promise in the ring in the future – one I will watch with interest! Best AVNSC Puppy, Res Best AVNSC & Hound Puppy Group 1

2.    Osbournes Derochaise Vincenzo Di Braego (Wire Haired Dachshund) A lovely dog of 11 months and another that will do well. On the day he was being a handful and somewhat spoilt his chances by not standing when required. That said an excellent sound very well balanced dog with exceptional hindquarters and great free movement. Correct dachshund shoulder placement nice tight elbows good conical head and lovely barrel ribbing, good length of rib and nice short strong loin. Used his hindquarters to advantage. Could be a little straighter in front but on overall balance a lovely dog.

Super hindquarter construction and great low forward movement propelled from his strong hindquarters. Unlucky to meet the winner on the day. Cracking dog

3.    Woods Wildstar Wreward (Min L/H Dachshund) Lovely dog now almost 3. I judged him as a junior when he won the Junior class at champ show level and has retained his early promise. Super all round quality construction as this exhibitor presents from one generation to the next. I hope he gains his crown in the future – on the day was not in the best of coats but a lovely dog.

4.    Pearmain & Sherwoods Delandmar Greata Garbo (Min Smooth Dachshund) – just out of puppy at 13 months but what fantastic promise this young bitch has. Just my type, super size and nothing over exaggerated.
