Great Dane Club

CRITIQUE FOR GREAT DANE CLUB SINGLE BREED LIMITED SHOW – 03/08/19

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee, who were all so welcoming and friendly, for such an enjoyable day at this well run show at a super venue. A huge thank you also to all the exhibitors who gave me a wonderful entry.

PUPPY DOG (4,0). Mrs J & Mr S Thurlby’s Santanna Special Legacy at Justinian. 8 month old fawn, although still very much a baby, this youngster oozed classic breed type and quality. Correct head with level planes and dark eye and black mask giving a pleasing expression. Long, clean neck, correct angulation front and rear. He has it all and is devoid of any exaggeration. I really look forward to watching him mature, I’m sure he will have a very promising future. BPD, RBD, BPIS.

JUNIOR DOG (3,0) Mr J & Mrs L Taylor’s Tayhamblue Stand By Me. 15 month old fawn with black mask. This well balanced yearling made my day as it was so nice to see a Dane full of dash and dare, he never took his eye off the ball and was literally ready to go anywhere and do anything, yet well schooled. Adequate bone, well bodied for age, well chiselled face with correct ear carriage, excellent topline, strong upright pasterns on tight feet, good turn of stifle and tail set. BD, BIS.

NOVICE DOG (2,1) Miss. J. Harding’s Quicksilver Delta Velorum at Daneheart (Imp Pol). 19 month old harlequin, very nicely marked. Not the biggest of dogs, but well off for bone. Lovely temperament, well handled and certainly enjoying his day out especially on the move. Unfortunately his gay tail spoils the picture.

POST GRADUATE DOG (2,1) Mrs. J. McDonald’s Darrington Wizard By Ravendane. 15 month old harlequin, superb mover with free and springy action and gliding to cover the ground. Correct equal angulation front and rear, good bone and topline, would prefer less strength in head and tighter feet. Nicely handled.

LIMIT DOG (2,0) Mr M & Mrs B Griffin & Grierson’s Griffindane Athos. Strong masculine 2 year old fawn, all male. Good depth of brisket and well filled front. Level topline and well sprung ribs. A substantial dog who was true and sound in his movement but would prefer a little more rear angulation to drive more on the move.

OPEN DOG (2,1)Mrs S. Searle’s Dainmajik the Conjuror to Murrayvhayle (AI). 5 year old upstanding fawn in beautiful condition. A strong male with good flat bone, excellent shoulder placement, nicely filled front. Well muscled with good croup and width to second thigh. Well let down hocks. A very friendly and relaxed disposition. Unfortunately had to be withdrawn.

SPECIAL OPEN HARLEQUIN DOG (3,1)Miss. K. A. Przybylska’s Big Dope Ozzy. 19 month old heavily marked harlequin. Nicely put together, firm topline, good front and rear angulations, well muscled, won this class on his movement. Pink haw detracts from his expression.

SPECIAL OPEN BLUE DOG (2,0)Mr & Mrs J Martin’s Thebyreblue True Velour at Keishant. 3 year old blue lad. Masculine head, nice dark eye and correct dentition. Adequate reach of neck. Excellent depth of chest. Weak in pasterns, moved ok.

SPECIAL OPEN BLACK DOG (2,2)

SPECIAL OPEN BRINDLE DOG(0)

SPECIAL OPEN FAWN DOG (3,1)TayhamBlue Stand by Me. Winner of Junior.

SPECIAL OPEN MANTLE DOG (2,0) Mrs. S. Kelleway’s Damarkann Marquisite. Smart 2 year old Mantle, well marked, turned out in super condition. Good depth of brisket, deep through rib cage, correct croup, tight feet and sound on the move. Would prefer narrower backskull and more refinement in head.

SPECIAL VETERAN DOG (2,2)

PUPPY BITCH (8,2) Miss J R Walton’s Ravendane Pumpkin. 9 month old harlequin. Pretty feminine bitch, clean black & white. Dark tight eye, appealing expression, correct bite, graceful length to neck, excellent topline and correct rear angulations which she used to drive once settled.

JUNIOR BITCH (4,1) Miss Cranfield’s Zefathers Sweet Child O’Mine BJWNL’19. 15 month old balanced bitch who is well put together and full of quality. Strong but elegant, super head with level head planes and a kind dark eye. Short coupled, good shoulder placement and excellent hind angulation. Moved true coming and going. Firm topline which she kept on the move. Slightly out of coat on the day. BB, RBIS, BOS.

NOVICE BITCH (6,2) Mrs. S. Stapleford’s Wanderhund Poised For Madjax. 2 year old harlequin, clean white front, but would have preferred larger black patches. Correct head with tight eye and excellent pigmentation, good length of foreface and correct size of ear and placement. Tight cat-like feet. She excelled on the move in her class, but due to owner’s unfortunate injury in the ring, she was handled by someone else in the challenge and didn’t give her best. RBB.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (1,1)

LIMIT BITCH (2,1) Mrs. J Le Claire’s Dainoak Absolutely Lovely. 2 year old slate blue, well proportioned and in excellent condition. Strong head set into good reach of neck and well layed shoulders. Good depth and width of chest with straight bone to strong pasterns. A good all round bitch, who knows her job in the ring. Moved ok.

OPEN BITCH (1,0) Mrs. S Booth’s Primus Another Moment. 2 year old rich fawn with black mask. Good depth of chest and well rounded throughout ribcage. Good croup. Only her second show and her anxiety made it difficult to see her at her best.

SPECIAL OPEN HARLEQUIN BITCH (6,4) Wanderhund Poised For Madjax – Winner of Novice.

SPECIAL OPEN BLUE BITCH (4,1)Miss. C Davies’s Kolumbia Casa Di Amici (Imp). Almost one year old, 4th in puppy and 3rd in Novice but had settled much better and improved in each class. A substantial bitch who is mature for her age, well bodied, strong but feminine in head, well chiselled face and good length of neck. Excellent shoulder placement, good depth of chest and short tight pasterns set onto good tight feet. Would like to see more strength and drive from the rear assembly.

SPECIAL OPEN BLACK BITCH (5,1) Mr. D. Simpson’s Renescent Miss Naughty. 2 year old tall black girl with clean flowing lines. A useful type, strong but not over done in any way, pleasing head with dark eye to give appealing expression, good length and strength of neck. Depth of chest reaching elbow, well sprung ribs, good croup and tailset. Low set hocks, sound on the move.

SPECIAL OPEN BRINDLE BITCH (0)

SPECIAL OPEN FAWN BITCH (2,0) Zefathers Child O’Mine – Winner of Junior.

SPECIAL OPEN MANTLE BITCH (0)

SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH (2,0) Mr. D Simpson’s Renescent La Revolution. 7 year old blue bitch. Loved this ‘not so old’ lady who’s temperament shone through as she enjoyed her day back in the ring. Parallel head planes, soft, kind expression, excellent shoulder set, straight flat bone, tight cat like feet and good depth and width of chest. Still well muscled and in excellent condition, a real credit to her owner/breeders.
