Many thanks to the Society for the invitation and for their hard work running the show, also to my super-efficient steward.
BIS
BIS was the Mini Smooth, Paget & Caroll’s Marvale Master of Disguise; RBIS the Standard Long, Negus’ Tarramist Krug Rose, red of lovely type with typy head and strong jaw, sound as a bell all through with a cracking front and feet, true and precise movement all round, ribbing carried well back, solid topline kept on the move, finished off with a well presented red jacket of correct texture; BPIS the Mini Wire, Salisbury’s Penneywave Nosey Parker at Brocklewood, RBPIS the Mini Smooth, Samlane Happy as a Lark, and BVIS the Standard Wire, Moore & Coverley’s Ch Ex Sentia I’m Bond James Bond.
Minature Long Haired Dachshunds
PD (3, 2 abs) 1, Oxley’s Dinkidax Right on Cue, 6 months cream, strong jaw, pleasing expression and dark eye, good front and feet, nice strong rear giving enough drive, clean all round and in good coat for a baby, BP.
PB (5, 3) 1, Oxley’s Dinkdax Dressed in Red, well balanced proportions, dark eye, well ribbed up, correct keel and good feet, not quite as good behind as the dog puppy; 2, Flower’s Abydachs Attraction of Aysdaine, b/t, of pleasing overall type, balanced outline, pleasing head, good rear angulation. Not co-operating with handler either stacked or moving..
JD (1) 1, Oxley’s Lokmadi Rio Bravo at Dinkidax, shaded cream with a nice masculine head and strong jaw, nothing toyish about him; very good front, strong well angled rear, moved pretty well all round. Needs to mature in body and roaching his topline a bit on the move
JB (1) 1, Shutt’s Donnadoon Moondust, b/t, correct proportions, pretty feminine head, good feet, well ribbed up, moved OK. Somewhat high in the rear at the moment, just at an awkward stage.
PG (2,1) 1, Cohen’s Hutzpah Hothouse Flower, red, one who looked better moving than stacked, she would insist on posting which exaggerates a slightly short upper arm; level topline, good ribbing and loin, decent rear. Moved cleanly with plenty of activity.
L (3) 1, Cohen’s Lilac Blossom for Hutzpah, a high quality red just coming to maturity, very well balanced, proper Dachshund head with strong jaw but still feminine, really good front, topline kept on the move, excellent profile action and sound out and back, very nice bitch, BOB.
OD (2,1) 1, Shutt’s Star Gazer of Donnadoon, b/t of a very good basic shape and type, well balanced with a powerful jaw, good angles both ends, moved OK in profile but hocking out behind and he is too fond of his dinners which affects his topline somewhat.
OB (3,2) 1, RBOB, Cohen’s Ralines Red Bouquet for Hutzpah, cream 4 yo, lovely head and underjaw, dark eye and expression, well balanced all through and moved really well especially in profile, covering lots of ground. Not showing quite as well in the challenge with a change of handler but she is a high class bitch.
Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshunds
PD (1) 1, Shutt’s Donnadoon Dusk Till Dawn, 7 mths b/t baby who looked very good stacked with a really lovely houndy head and expression, balanced outline, excellent front, alas he was not in co-operative mood today and it was difficult to assess his movement.
PB (3,2) 1, Samlane Happy as a Lark, shaded red with a beautiful head and expression, well-laid shoulder, well ribbed up, level topline, nice rounded rump, would like a touch more clearance but she is most promising and she moved cleanly and freely. BP, RBPIS.
JD (2) 1, Lombardelli’s Kelmbeck Sydney, shaded red, pleasing head, good front and feet, well balanced, well angled rear which he doesn’t really make the most of on the move, clean enough but lacks drive; 2, Starkey’s Carpaccio Black Obsidian at Hamoura, b/t who makes a very pleasing picture stacked, very typy, well-balanced outline, well ribbed up, nice level topline; disappoints on the move, lacks freedom and drive and too fond of his tail.
JB (1) 1, Kent’s Lomadi Magic Dragon, red, pretty feminine head, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, plenty of depth with good ribbing. Would like a bit more second thigh, and while she moved OK she was flicking a hock going away.
PG (5) Tight decision between two quality young bitches. 1, Melbourne’s Melriding Sea Infanta, feminine head, balanced outline, well made all through, very typy and she moved freely in profile and clean out and back. Just preferred head & expression to 2, Paget & Caroll’s Kiwiana Girl of Markwell (Imp NZ), b/t, another lovely youngster, excellent length of neck into well laid shoulder, matching correctly angled rear, showed and moved really well at her first UK show, not quite the pigmentation or head properties of 1 but another very nice young bitch; 3, Kerry’s Kireton Hebe.
L (5, 1) Tricky class. 1, Hutching’s Stargang Hot Cross Bun for Collidach, brindle, quality houndy head, decent front with good shoulder, level topline, fair rear, moved OK but not happy stacked and a bit more ground clearance wouldn’t come amiss ; 2, Shutt’s Melriding Captain Cook for Donnadoon, another brindle, again a very nice masculine typy head, good front and depth, enough clearance; topline rising to a rear with short second thigh and he lacked any drive or extension on the move; 3, Lombardelli’s Kelmbeck de Montespan of Melriding.
OD (4,1) 1, Paget & Caroll’s Marvale Master of Disguise, b/t young dog just out of Junior and shows a lot of promise, balanced outline, quality head, correct length of neck into well laid shoulder, good length of upper arm, well-planted feet and good depth of chest with just enough ground clearance, strong rounded rear giving lots of drive behind, precise and active mover who showed lots of ring presence and benefited from expert handling; BOB & BIS; 2, Melbourne’s Ambreglo Storm at Melriding (IKC), b/t, another quality youngster, pleasing head, very good front and feet, nice level topline, moved really well all round, slightly more ground clearance than 1 but not quite the length of second thigh; 3, Williams’ Wilmerella Wells Fargo.
OB (6,1) 1, Kerry’s Kireton Cici, b/t mature bitch who really needs to be gone over to appreciate her qualities as she is rather given to hiding her light under a bushel; well balanced proportions, correctly constructed with matching angles both ends, pretty feminine head, keeps topline on the move, strong behind and clean out and back, not flashy and rather sedate on the move but she has a lot going for her, RBOB; 2, Melbourne’s Siouxline Goldilocks of Melriding, red, another quality bitch, very typy head and outlook, very good front, level topline, moved well all round; 3, Lombardelli’s Mylforbe Fleur de Lys at Melriding.
Miniature Wire Haired Dachshunds
P (4,2) 1, Salisbury’s Pennywave Nosey Parker at Brocklewood, 6 ½ months baby, super Dachshundy head with good furnishings, well-padded feet, everything sound and clean in front, level topline, well ribbed-up, clean active mover with precise footfall, carried tail correctly, obviously needs to mature and drop behind a touch but I liked him a lot. BOB, BP & BPIS; 2, Dance’s Emem Constant Sunshine, really lovely head and expression, sound in front, good coat and furnishings, plenty of substance, moved OK in profile but she was not as clean behind as 1 and rather fond of her tail.
J (2,1) 1, Roberts’ Kmai Jinx at Vanzela, red bitch, good shoulder and feet, well-proportioned; quality head with good furnishings, would like a bit more length of second thigh, nevertheless she moved very well all round, especially coming towards me.
PG (3) 1, Dance’s Emem Summer Sunshine, 10 months, most pleasing head and front on this quality10 months bitch, lovely furnishings, correct front with good layback and return, level topline held well, plenty of ground clearance without being leggy, front and profile movement good, just hocking in behind a touch both stacked and moving; 2, Clements’ Springdach Summer Siren, red bitch, very pleasing typy head and sound front, good ribbing and depth, but dropping behind and lacks strength and drive; 3, Morris’ Pennywave Pollyanna.
L (3,2) 1, Morris’ Stargang Quintina at Pennywave JW, mature 6yo bitch with a super typy head and outlook, full of character; clean sound front, good proportions, level topline, moved pretty well all round but carrying a bit too much condition.
OD (1,abs)
OB (2) Two classy bitches of rather different type. 1, Morris’ Stargang Peggy Sue at Pennywave JW, elegant and very typy cream youngster, really well made both ends with matching correct angles, strong rear with parallel movement, harsh coat and furnishings, active in profile, most appealing. Just wish she had a little more body but this may come with maturity. RBOB; 2, Dance’s Ch Emem Gloria Sunshine JW, substantial mature bitch with a lovely typy head and front, good harsh coat and furnishings, well-balanced outline, ribbing carried well back, strong loin, level topline. Not as clean behind as 1 and a little too fond of her tail.
AV Veteran (4,1) 1, Moore & Coverley’s Wire, Ch Ex Sentia I’m Bond James Bond, really lovely masculine head, full of type and character, excellent sound front, plenty of strength through the body and with rock solid topline, moves really well and is in superb condition, no exaggerations; not looking anything like his years, BVIS. 2, Starkey’s Smooth, Carpaccio Jasper for Hamoura, another really nice quality houndy head, very good front, level topline, strong rear, balanced proportions. Would like tighter knit feet; 3, Walker’s Mini Smooth, Donnadoon Tiger Feet for Dorenian.
AV Senior Veteran (3) 1, Negus’ Long, Tarramist Adonis Dream ShCM, b/t 12 yo in fantastic condition, lovely head with a full set of white teeth, sound as a bell both ends and he moved accordingly, a real laster and a credit to his owner for keeping him in great nick. Just a touch soft in topline but a lovely dog; 2, Green’s Mini Long, Eldmour Electra, typy head, good front, well ribbed up, moved very well if not quite as positive behind as 1, but she has lots of character and joie de vivre, really enjoying herself; 3, Walker’s Brianolf Mystical Gem for Dorenian.
