Windsor Gundog Society Open Show 2nd October 2019

Brittanys

Firstly, I would like to thank Windsor Gundog Society for appointing me to judge Brittanys at this friendly show and the Stewards who ensured that everything ran smoothly. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and the weather was kind!

Puppy – 0 entries

Junior – 0 entries

Graduate – 1 entry

1st – S Ryan’s Patouche Oriana. Attractive 2 year old tri-colour bitch with super expression. Eyes and nose in harmony with the coat colour. Ears were neat, held high and used to advantage. Head was of the correct 3:2 ratio and very feminine. A workmanlike bitch although I would prefer a little more bone to really give that cobby look, on the smaller side but within standard. A nice deep chest and lovely topline which she held on the move. A little long in loin which did mean she didn’t look quite as square as you would hope. In profile she moved with a lovely brisk stride but going away and coming toward, she did crab a little. Reserve Best of Breed.

Open – 2 entries, 1 absent

1st – S Ryan's Patouche Jaimee. This 4 year old orange and white bitch presents a fantastic square outline with a good length of leg. Definitely workmanlike and easily described as “fit for function”. Head of the correct 3:2 proportions, high set ears, eyes and nose in harmony with the coat, which had a lovely “goaty” texture, a quality a lot of Brittany’s lack. Her muzzle could do with being a little stronger if I’m being picky. Her chest was deep with plenty of lung room, well-muscled with short loin and good tail set. Top line was strong but she did tend to roach slightly, particularly on the move, but despite that, she moved straight and true with a brisk action. Although not on top form today, she was well worth her Best of Breed.
