Stourbridge and District Canine Society Open Show

27th December 2019

Dalmatians

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge Dalmatians and to my two stewards who kept the proceedings running smoothly.

I had decent numbers for a mid-Christmas and New Year show with no absentees and would like to thank the exhibitors for their entry.

Puppy (2, 0)

1st - Green and Sears’ Alphadal’s Sweet Talker At Judally.

Rising 7 month liver at his first show. A little in awe of the proceedings but gave enough to show his promising construction and movement. Masculine head developing nicely, with gorgeous amber eye and well set and carried ears creating an alert expression. Correct bite. Nice length of neck into well laid shoulder. Good angle and length to his upper arm. Correct width and depth to chest for age. Rear angles balancing with the fore. Good round bone down to tight feet. Correct tail set and carriage. This young man has the correct height to length ratios which when combined with his front and rear construction allows him reach. Confidence and maturity will see him driving from his nicely angle rear and together will produce the economic action the breed requires. Very promising puppy. BPIB and G4

2nd – O’Connor’s Doodledally Nancy Drew Am Dalseren.

7 month outgoing black bitch showing well. Dark pigment on a pure white coat and nicely distributed spotting. Feminine head with well set and carried ears, alert expression. Nice amount of bone down to tight feet. Ribs well sprung and even depth to chest for age. Balanced front and rear with adequate angulation. Slopes away over the croup to a lower tail set. Moved confidently but lacked reach and tended to roach her topline at times.

Post Graduate (6,0)

A nice class to judge with the first three places close up. However, first and second topped the class with their reach and fluidity of movement.

1st – Green and Sears’ Alphadal Aint Misbehaving At Judally JW.

Almost 2 year old liver male I judged at the beginning of the year and my critique commented that I would have liked a little more of him. Well today I got it. He is maturing into a well bodied dog yet retaining the elegance of the breed. Masculine head with dark amber eye and well set and carried ears. Good length to his neck into a well laid shoulder and level topline with tail coming straight off his back which he carried well whilst stood and on the move. Good angle and length to his upper arm and balanced rear angulations with decent bend of stifle and well let down hocks. Good bone down to tight feet. Topped off with nicely pigmented and well distributed spotting this boy looks a picture on the stand. On the move he comes into his own with a lovely fluid action, holding his topline with plenty of reach and drive from the rear, but again maintaining the required economy in gait. Well deserved BOB.

2nd – David and Saunders’ Dallydyl The Living Spirit.

15 month old liver male, heavier all through than one. Masculine head, dark amber eye, well set and carried ears created an alert expression. Adequate length of neck into a defined wither and well laid shoulder. Level topline held on the move, to correct set on and carriage of tail. Good width and depth to his chest with balanced angulation fore and aft. This well-muscled boy is well off for bone and had good feet. Like one, this boy’s angulation and length to height ratio provides him with reach and drive and a fluid effortless gait, however I preferred the overall elegance of my first place.

3rd – Williams’ Tolkain Storm King From Phadante JW

Open (1, 0)

1st – O’Connor’s Dalmanti Diamond Raider

2 year old male who was unplaced in previous class. Good black pigmentation on a pure white coat. Built on a smaller squarer frame this boy has a nice masculine head framed by well carried ears, held on adequate length of neck which leads into defined wither. He has enough depth to his chest and well sprung ribs. His front angulation is adequate, but he is lacking in his rear. He does however use what he has to advantage on the move and gaited the ring nicely.
