Rottweiler Critiques

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge Rottweilers; my stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly and all the exhibitors for their entries, and for accepting my decisions with good grace.

Puppy (2):

1st Jones’ Olearia Western Girl From Westfalen; 10 month old bitch. Correct and complete dentition, with mottled mouth pigmentation. Feminine, clean head which is developing well and has good proportions with: correct length of broad muzzle, enough stop, correct sized ears which at present are carried slightly away from the cheek, and dark almond shaped eyes complete the head giving the required tranquil gaze. A well-muscled neck flows to clean, well placed shoulders. Forechest is well developed for age. Correctly angled pasterns lead to tight feet. Correct croup leads to a well set and carried tail. Moderate turn of stifle and well-muscled rear. Coat was in good order with rich tan markings. She won the class on the move today; her movement was steady and balanced, whilst at all times holding a firm level topline. I was pleased to award her Best Puppy in Breed, and later she went on to be awarded Working Puppy Group 2 under Cath Moffat.

2nd Varenka Silver Arrow For Riversrock; 10 month old dog. Correct and complete dentition, with mottled mouth pigmentation. Masculine head, with a broad muzzle, good stop and dark eyes. Forechest is developing well for his age. Straight front. Well angled pasterns. Correctly sloping, broad croup leads to a well set and carried tail. Good turn of stifle and well-muscled rear. On the move he displayed plenty of drive from the rear, but he was loose on the move today. He is a large puppy, so this could easily improve as he matures.

Junior (1):

1st Clark’s Botlierskop Titan Theia; 12 month old bitch. Correct and complete dentition, with mottled mouth pigmentation. Clean, feminine head which is developing well for her age and has a broad muzzle of good length, good stop, medium almond shaped eyes, ears are slightly high set. Neck of fair length leads to clean well placed shoulders. Well-developed forechest. Compact, short-coupled body, with good substance and spring of rib. Correct croup leading to a well carried tail. Well angulated rear, which she uses to advantage on the move, exhibiting plenty of drive and at all times holds a firm level topline.

Post Graduate (3, 1a):

1st Davis’ Bearwithme Jenny Wren; 3 year old bitch. Correct and complete dentition, with dark mouth pigmentation. Beautiful, feminine head of great proportions – she has a broad skull, broad muzzle of correct length, correctly sized and set ears which fall nicely on to the cheek and medium almond shaped eyes. Short, muscular neck leads to clean, well-placed shoulders and upper arm of correct length. Ample forechest. Well angled pasterns lead to tight feet but they do turn out slightly. She is a compact bitch with good bone and substance, correct depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Correctly sloping, broad croup, leading to a correctly set and carried tail. Correct turn of stifle, with great muscle definition, and strong hocks. She has a coarse coat with correctly proportioned rich tan markings. Unfortunately, she was over exuberant on the move today making it very difficult to assess.

2nd Broadbank’s Bevanray Shirley; 2 year old bitch. Correct and complete dentition. This bitch has plenty of bone and substance! Head is strong, yet still feminine with a broad muzzle, dark eyes and good sized ears. Well-muscled neck of fair length leads to clean withers. Well-angulated rear. Correctly carried tail. Moved well.

Limit (6, 2a):

1st Watkins and Taylor’s Minealea Busy Bee JW; 2 year old dog. Correct and complete dentition, with dark mouth pigmentation. Clean, masculine head with a broad skull which is slightly bulbous, broad muzzle of correct length, good stop, well set ears and dark eyes. Well-muscled neck slightly arched and of fair length. Correct length of upper arm, correct length of leg to depth of chest, straight front. Moderate forechest. Correct height to length proportions. Slightly sloping croup leads to a well set and carried tail. Moderately angulated hindquarters with well-developed first and second thigh, and strong, sound hocks. Coat in good order with rich mahogany markings. He moved true coming and going, and in side profile exhibited balanced movement holding a firm level topline. I was pleased to award him Best Of Breed, and later he went on to be awarded Working Group 3 under Cath Moffat.

2nd Clark’s Botlierskop Scarlet Emerald; 3 year old bitch. Correct and complete dentition, with dark mouth pigmentation. Strong, feminine head of great proportions with a broad skull, broad muzzle of correct length, ears of good size but are carried slightly away from the cheek, and dark almond shaped eyes complete the head giving the required tranquil gaze. correct length of leg to depth of chest, straight front, moderate forechest. Correct height to length proportions. Slightly sloping croup leads to a well set and carried tail. Moderately angulated hindquarters with strong, sound hocks. Coat in good order with well-proportioned tan markings. She moved true coming and going, in side profile she exhibited balanced movement but did not have as much reach and drive as 1st. I was splitting hairs between 1st and 2nd in this class, so I was pleased to award her Reserve Best Of Breed.
