Leicester City Canine Society

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge and to my stewards for all your help. A big thank you to the exhibitors for your entries and making the trip out on such a hot day and for taking my decisions sportingly.

Dalmatians

All entries were of sound temperaments and all had the correct bite.

Class 46 Puppy (4/5)

A class full of quality youngsters who will swap places time and again.

1st 149 Townson & Pardoe’s Kaytoni Oh What a Night at Daymadals. 10 month old b/w male who is full of promise. Gorgeous, masculine head with sparkling dark eyes, enhanced by the darkest of pigment. Used his ears well to frame his face. Excellent neck; strong and muscular but elegantly flowing into correct lay of shoulder. Front developing nicely, just right for his young age. Well off for bone and tight cat feet. Ribs to elbows and carried well back. Strong, level topline and correct tailset. His rear angulation is balanced with his front and he has the musculature of a dog who is well exercised. He has strong hocks which really came into play when he moved. He has the correct driving action which, even in this small ring, gave him a rhythmical gait with no wasted energy. Pleased to award him Best Puppy, I will watch his career with interest.

2nd 145 Sampson’s Dalstorm Golden Guinea. Another exquisite b/w male who gave me a tough decision to make in this class. Just 8 months old with a wonderful masculine head with an intelligent expression. Dark eyes, strong jaw and well set ears. Good neck into well laid shoulders, nice front and chest developing well. Strong bone and beautiful cat feet. Ribs are well sprung already and he is strong in loin. His topline was a little loose today which was the deciding factor between the two boys but this will firm up as he matures. He has a nice bend of stifle and is clearly getting his exercise. His movement was free and powerful but he would definitely benefit from a larger ring. Also one to watch for the future.

3rd 142 McMillan’s Keiradal Captain Jack for Dalyance.

Class 47 Junior (6/8)

1st 151 Williams’ Tolkain Storm King from Phadante JW. 14 month old b/w male who is so full of personality you can practically see it bursting out of him. Strong head with dark eyes and cheeky expression. Well muscled neck and shoulders and excellent bone. Really loved his feet, tight with well arched toes. Good ribbing, strong topline and correct tailset. Nice rear angulation and defined hocks. Played his handler up a little on the move but when he got his head down he was tracking up well, moving fluidly with nice reach and drive.

2nd 136 Burrows’ Ellemstra Tough Cookie at Shacarlu. Beautiful 16 month old b/w bitch who makes a striking outline. Elegant head with nice length of muzzle and strong jaw, I would prefer a slightly darker eye colour. Long neck flowing into well laid shoulders correct length of upper arm. Good bone and straight forelegs. Well ribbed with a strong topline and well muscled loin. Good rear angulation with well developed second thigh and strong hocks. She would definitely benefit from larger ring to really show off her movement, she needed more space to get into her stride.

3rd 144 Pace’s Dalcatori Morganite Rosa.

Class 48 Postgraduate (3/4)

1st 146 Sims’ Mullabuoy Magic Man for Snowspeeder JW. 21 month old b/w male. This boy is a very special prospect. Ideal for size, masculine, elegant yet powerful. Loved his head; strong and balanced with the darkest of eyes and excellent pigment. He uses his well broken ears to frame his face. Nicely arched neck into correct lay of shoulder and front angulation. He has great bone without being overdone. Nice, tight feet with tough pads. Well sprung ribs and deep, capacious chest. Level back, strong loin with correct tailset and carriage. He has a good turn of stifle with strong hocks. Under hand he is in such hard condition. His musculature is smooth and well developed with a great second thigh. You can feel his strength and can tell he puts the miles in. On the move he gave his handler a hard time, he is such a happy character that it was difficult to reign him in. Once he got his head in the game he had the truest movement of the day. Tracking perfectly with such an accurate footfall and no wasted energy. Head down, job done, just the way it should be for an endurance dog. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.

2nd 144 Pace’s Dalcatori Morganite Rosa. Pretty l/w 14 month old bitch. Lovely head with the sweetest expression and she really uses her delightfully spotty ears well. Elegant neck into a good front which is developing well for her age. Lighter in build than others entered today but enough bone and good feet. Well sprung ribs, nice topline with a strong loin. Nice rear angulation and she is well muscled already with a good second thigh. Excels on the move as she has a smooth gait and floats easily around the ring. Well handled.

3rd 133 Alcock’s Kayjule Kepler at Dalspartan.

Class 49 Open (4/6)

1st 150 Watts & Jackson-Peatling’s Tamilanda Continental Song JW. I have admired this beautiful b/w bitch from the ringside since she first came out, so I was thrilled to get the chance to go over her. Such a striking girl with bold spotting on a crisp white coat. She makes a strong yet elegant outline on the stand. Gorgeous head and expression, with the darkest of eyes. Great length of neck into well laid, muscular shoulders. Good front assembly with ample bone and excellent feet. Her ribs are well sprung and carried well back. Such a shapely bitch with a nice bend of stifle and strong hocks. In excellent, hard condition all through. She started out with the over exuberance you would expect from a young, giddy dog and her handler is to be commended for keeping her cool with her outgoing charge and getting back her focus. Once settled, she covered the ground with an easy, flowing gait with great drive from her strong hindquarters. I don’t think it will be long before she earns her crown. RBOB.

2nd 143 Pace’s Big Addo. A strong l/w male who is in prime condition. He can easily be overlooked as he is not flashy, he is simply an honest dog who is more than capable of doing a full days’ work. Handsome head with intelligent expression and correct amber eye colour. Well broken ears which he used to advantage. Strong neck, correct front construction, nicely boned with excellent feet. Well ribbed with a strong, level topline and well muscled loin. Excellent width of thigh and nice bend of stifle with well defined hocks. Correct tailset just an unfortunate carriage, however this does not impede his ability to do the job he was designed for. Such an accurate mover, tracking up perfectly. He is a mature boy who knows his job and does it well.

3rd 139 Gibbs’ Phadante Mr Blue Sky JW ShCM.

Shih Tzu

I want to thank the Shih Tzu exhibitors for their entry as I am not a specialist in your breed and am learning more each time I judge your lovely dogs. All exhibits were of sound temperament with the correct bite.

Class 82 Puppy (3/3)

1st 250 McIntyre’s Shanitau’s Obsession. Loved the head and expression of this 10 month gold/white male. Dark eyes, nice width of muzzle and well set ears which blend nicely. Correct length of neck into well constructed front with excellent bone and good feet. Strong level topline which he held so well on the move. He is really well muscled for his age with a great width of thigh, you can certainly tell he gets his exercise. Carried his tail well. Excelled on the move with a fantastic driving action and a look at me attitude. Pleased to award him Best Puppy.

2nd 247 Barrell’s Petradia Just Magical at Javerda. Another promising puppy with many of the same qualities as the first. 11 month old black/white who is strong and masculine with correct, round eye and good muzzle. Ears well set and blending nicely into his neck. Excellent bone, correct front construction and nice feet. Deep chested with a strong topline and correct tailset. Well muscled hinds. I don’t think he was a fan of the hot day as he just lacked a little enthusiasm on the move.

3rd 251 Moore’s Ashmakin Red is the Rose at Jaxtzu (IKC).

Class 83 Junior (2/2)

1st 251 Moore’s Ashmakin Red is the Rose at Jaxtzu (IKC). Feminine 7 month old gold bitch, pretty face with a cheeky expression. Large, dark eyes, good muzzle and well pigmented throughout. Nice neck, good front construction and ample bone for her size. Excellent topline which she held well on the move. Muscles developing well for her age. She moved smoothly around the ring, with good drive and showing full pad.

2nd 252 Steel’s Jadoremy Red Bounty Sniper for Juhua. Beautifully presented gold/white who has just turned a year old. Masculine head with good expression and dark eyes. Good muzzle, ears well set and strong neck. Nicely constructed front angles just needing to drop into his chest a little. Well muscled throughout however he just lost his topline on the move today. He has stacks of potential, he just needs time to mature.

Class 84 Open (5/6)

1st 245 Barrell & Sullivan’s Janjon A Chance to Dream at Jacquinta. This gold/white male belies his 9 years. Such a wonderful personality and presented in pristine condition. Broad head with excellent muzzle. Sparkling, dark eyes and well set ears. Well proportioned neck into correct lay of shoulder and front construction. He has a nice chest and good ribbing. Well off for bone and good feet. Body proportions are just right and he has a strong topline. Correct tailset and tail is carried well over his back. Superb muscling all through. It was fantastic to watch him move. He has excellent reach and really uses his strong hindquarters to drive fluidly around the ring. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.

2nd 249 Hutley’s Zeeva Zafirah. Beautiful gold/white bitch who pushed the first place all the way today. Feminine head with dark eyes, excellent pigmentation and well set ears. Good arch to neck, into good lay of shoulder. Nice chest and front angulation. She has good bone and feet. Nice spring of rib and strong topline. Another who is well muscled all through and used this to her advantage when moving around the ring smoothly.
