Judge: Mr Krystyan Greenland

It was an absolute pleasure to judge at this very well run show. Thank you to all those who entered and supported this very good club. Thank you to the hard working Committee for looking after us all day. The venue was excellent and the weather for the most part was a lot better than it could have been! Thank you to my hard working steward for the day - Tina Capell. You were awesome! There were some lovely dogs on exhibition here and I was greatly spoilt for choice. Thank you for a wonderful day in Cornwall.

Best In Show.

A lovely line up awaited me, and the decisions were hard. Thank you to my fellow group judges for sending through these quality dogs. In the end, for me, two dogs stood away here and ultimately this top award went to the beautiful Finnish Lapphund, Cooper & Critchlows Ch Pavoskas Aly Arttu, who never put a foot wrong all day. He excelled today and looked an absolute picture. Oozing breed type and powered round with super movement. Well done. RBIS went to the outstanding Leonberger, Skilling & Folkes’ Ch Dacfolke Obie Odakota. This super dog was likewise full of breed type and so light of foot for his size. Presented to perfection. Quality dogs indeed.

Best Puppy In Show

Again, a lovely line up of very promising puppies. Some sure fire Champions of the future here. For BPIS I chose the super Briard, Jacobs-Pearce’s Arundall Mithra. As I have detailed in the breed critique, a super puppy with so much potential. Has that stamp of quality and style that you need at this level and above. Faultless on the move today. For RBPIS I chose a magnificent Westie, Minnett’s Duskhunter Shines Bright. Sassy and cheeky, she had it all. Oozing quality and just daring me not to pick her. Delightful to go over and so sound. Must have a great future ahead of her.

Best Veteran In Show

Quality seniors line up here who showed the youngsters how it should be done! The line up was again full of quality, but for me there was a clear winner in Ainsworths’ Hawksflight Light My Fire. A super BSD Tervueren who has class and style in abundance. Really stepped it up here to beat hot competition. RBVIS was a Cesky Terrier – Lewis’ Komidion Nickelodeon Avec Dajaces. What a beautiful outline and head. Presented to perfection and moved so true for the breed. Beautiful dog indeed.

Best Champion In Show: Cooper & Critchlow’s Ch Pavoskas Aly Arttu (Finnish Lapphund)

Res Best Champion In Show: Skilling & Folkes’ Ch Dacfolke Obie Odakota (Leonberger)

Australian Shepherd

Graduate (3,1)

1st:Scanlan’s Allmark Fairytales of Franmar. A good quality Aussie of a nice type. Head in proportion to body with equal length of muzzle to skull. Slightly rounded skull. Stop well defined without being overdone. Almond shaped eyes. Kind expression. Ears medium in size and set reasonably high. Enough length to neck. Moderate, balanced angles fore and aft. Correct length of body to height. Well ribbed. Firm topline. Would prefer tad more tuck up. Hocks well let down. Excells on the move, covering the ground with a very free and easy gait. BOB

2nd:Richards’ Birkcross Secret Agent with Accra JW. Altogether more leggy and finer than 1st. Head has good qualities being equal in length of skull to muzzle and slightly rounded in skull. Would prefer slightly more width to skull to balance length and tad more stop. Eyes not such a nice shape as 1st. Attentive expression. Good length to neck and shoulders are well placed. Chest could be slightly deeper. Bone medium to light for size. Sound on the move.

Open (3,1)

1st: Richards’ Accra Mystical Man. Liked this one for overall shape. Pretty good type. Head balanced with nice almond eyes. Neck is long enough. Moderate angulation fore and aft. Good depth to brisket and enough width to chest. Topline tends to dip a little when standing, but is ok on the move. Bone sufficient for size. Good feet. Tail present which is set on following line of croup and medium in length and feathering. Moves out with purpose.

2nd: Richards’ Accra Mystical Man. Skull is a tad too rounded for me. Stop strong. Muzzle correct for length. Ears correct for shape and set. Neck short. Shoulders rather upright. Down in pasterns on the day. Correct bone. Topline firm. Would prefer more bend to stifle and definition at the hock. Rather long in loin. Did not move as well as 1st , but was sound.

German Shepherd Dog

Open (2,1)

1st French’s Figynberg Igema. Alone here. Of a nice type with typical head. Lovely expression. Very well made all through. Good depth to chest and length to rib. Bone good for size. Very firm topline and no weakness observed behind. Super mover in all directions. Well handled and presented. BOB

BSD ( Tervueren)

A very nice entry indeed.

Graduate (2,1)

1st: Hawksflight Papa Don’t Preach at Dacfolke. A very attractive dog. Head is finely chiselled, if a little too ‘pointy’ at present. Very good head planes. Lovely dark slightly almond shaped eyes. Lovely high ear set. Great mask and dark ears. Good neck with slight arch. Balanced angled fore and aft. Just off square. Goof length to foreleg. Chest still to drop slightly. Firm topline. Lovely feet. Super tail set and carriage. Moved with light brisk strides. Just needs to gain in confidence.

Open (4,1)

1st: Hesketh, MacKie & Nicoll’s Ch Hawksflight The Hustler. Impressive and eye catching. Very nice to see that this dog is a Champion. Quality head. Lovely parallel head planes. Gorgeous, dark eyes and typical Belgian expression. Excellent head planes. Sufficient width to head which is balanced in skull and muzzle. Eyes dark brown and almond in shape. High set ears. Slight arch to neck. Well laid shoulders and good length of foreleg. Square in outline with enough length through ribs. Well turned stifles. Strong back. Excellent tail set an carriage. Brisk free mover. Super dog. BOB.

2nd: Ainsworth’s Hawksflight Milady De Winta. Oozes quality like 1st. Feminine version and full of breed type. Lovely head with excellent balanced length. Good head planes. Dark almond shaped eyes. Very good mask. High set ears. Neck is muscular and long enough. Well angulated fore and aft. Longer through body than 1st. Chest good for depth and width. Slight tuck up. Croup angles enough. Tail set and carriage perfect. Needs to learn to keep all four feet on the ground. When she does, she moves very well in profile. Not so steady as 1st out and back.

3rd: Simpson/Mackie’s Hawksflight The Phoenix

Rough Collie

Graduate (1,0)

1st: Scamp’s Stregato The Maleficent at Marketdene. Good length through the skull without being overdone. Head planes ok. Dark eyes of correct shape. Kind expression. Moderate angles fore and aft. A tad short in body and long in loin, but didn’t show much weakness. Correct tail set and carriage. Tail tad short. Moves soundly, but could be tidier out and back. Very well presented. BOB

Open (2,1)

1st: Scamp’s Aaronwell Ayebeecee at Marketdene. Lovely eyes and expression. Correct length of skull to muzzle. Ears ok for shape and set. Neck looking a tad short. Moderate angulation. Short in rib, Verging on a bit square in outline. Good bone and feet. Tail just about reaches hocks. Very well presented like winner of previous class. Preferred the overall type and movement of the BOB winner.

Shetland Sheepdogs

Great entry. Thank you. A wide variety of types and sizes presented here.

Junior (3,0))

1st: Hirst’s Sundark Spirit Mistress. I found the type of this young lady very pleasing. Good wedge shape which was long enough. Stop positioned correctly demarking equal length of skull to muzzle. Ears set well and held correctly at times. Dark eye of almond shape and oblique set. Neck of good length. By far the best angulated in this class with very good shoulder and upper arm which are matched well behind. Slightly longer than tall. Chest developing well. Tail set low and reaches below hocks. Displays a good gait with easy reach and drive. Loses topline at times.

2nd: Robinson’s Lavika Mi Vida. Not the most confident in the hall, but displays good breed type. Like her head, but doesn’t use her ears very well . Refined head which is developing along nice lines. Lovely dark, almond eyes. Moderate angles fore and aft. Little up behind at present. Moves soundly from all angles. Preferred her body shape to 3rd, but close up in this class and both 2nd and 3rd looked very much the babies. Will both develop on nicely I’m sure.

3rd: Robinson’s Lavika Star Babe

Graduate (6,0)

1st Moore’s Jacanshe Be Our Guest at Santiara. An easy winner. Upstanding young man. Head is long enough with good balance all through. Could be a tad more chiselled in foreface. Correct position to eyes which are dark in colour and set obliquely. Correct set to ears and uses them well. Correct length of neck which is slightly arched. Excellent angulation fore and aft. Correct depth to chest and has enough width. Good bone and feet. Excellent topline and body proportions. Tail reaches to hocks. Very sound mover in profile. Very close up for BOB, just slightly preferred the winners head and freeness of gait. Very nice boy who was well presented.

2nd: Marsh’s Malaroc Keep The Promise for Tinolyn. Another good for overall type. Excellent eyes and expression. Perhaps just a shade narrow through the muzzle and too much cut away under the eyes. Preferred the steady diminishing width of muzzle of the winner. Neck a little shorter than 1st. Shoulders look upright in stance, but hands on proved they are pretty well set. Upper arm slightly more upright than 1st. Good topline. Just length enough. Tail tad short. Easy, free, sound mover. Well presented.

3rd: Eldred’s Karmidale Talk Of The Town at Belthorne

Open Dog (5.0)

1st: Robinson’s Lavika Lush Life. Up to size, but a gorgeous outline that filled my eye. Most definitely masculine. Enough length to head. Skull is quite broad with flattish skull. Good head planes. Eyes a little full for my taste. Didn’t use his ears very well on the day. Neck is long enough and shoulders slope nicely. Little upright in upper arm. Super body of correct proportions. Great bone. Firm topline. Nice croup and low set tail which reaches to hocks. Lovely coat and condition. Superbly handled to show of his qualities. Moves with an easy stride.

2nd Hirst’s Sundark Starlight. Amazingly 11 years, Very typey. Really great head showing the many desirable qualities of a good Sheltie. Neck long. Super angles fore and aft. Level topline. Good for size. Colour rather dark now, but for 11, pretty good. Great mover. Preferred overall shape of 1st.

3rd: Moore’s Invictus Prince Iago Du Domaine Des Danaide (Imp)

Open Bitch (5,0)

1st: Hirst’s Sundark Simply A Star. This one fought off a strong battle from 2nd. Loved this one for body shape and her excellent angulation. Scores in head in many ways with even skull to muzzle, flat skull which is broad enough. Good head planes. Super neck leading into excellent shoulder. Super return to upper arm. Chest is deep enough and reaches to elbows. Ribs carried well back. Excellent turn of stifle. Tail reaches to hock. Lovely feet. Has an excellent gait, but has a tendency to just be a little hesitant and can drop her topline a tad. Overall breed type took her to the top here. BOB

2nd: Robinson’s Lavika Black Beauty. And a beauty she is. Incredibly attractive tri bitch. Head planes good and wedge is refined with good even length through skull and muzzle. Skull flat. I’d like a bit stronger in underjaw. High set ears which she used so well. Shoulders not as well laid as 1st and upper arm is rather upright. Good for chest. Slightly shorter in ribcage than 1st. Stifles moderate in angulation. Tail flew a little bit on the day. Moves very soundly but not quite the reach and drive of 1st. Tip top presentation and perfect coat.

3rd: Mitchell & Fiddock’s Karmidale Secret Love At Lowenek

Briard

Tail is carried low and displays typical hook. Double dew claws present. Reachy, effortless mover. BOB

Bearded Collie

Graduate (1,0)

1st Tippett’s Potterdale Fernando at Snowtip. This Beardie had a pretty decent head. Good even width and breadth to skull and muzzle. Admirable expression. Moderate angulation all through. Body built along good lines with strong (but not overdone) bone. Correct croup, tail set and carriage. Easy mover without any exaggeration. Well presented.

Open (4,0)

1st: Webbs’ Megamaree Just Amazing. The personality of the day. That tail never stopped wagging. Absolutely gorgeous head with good skull and muzzle. Perfect eyes which helped give the most typical Beardie expression. Lovely reachy neck. Very well built with excellent angulation all through. Good length to body through the ribs. Excellent tail set and carriage on the move. Not overdone in coat on the day. Superb mover – so typical and sound and in the true style of the breed. Super dog who I shall watch with interest.

Neck arched and leads into well placed shoulders. Good firm body with length through ribs. Slightly longer than tall. Good bone. Well turned stifles. Excellent coat with silver tips. Open (3,1)

1st: Cooper & Critchlow’s Ch Pavoskas Aly Arttu. Finnish Lapphund. Has really matured into an upstanding, quality dog. Has enough breadth to skull. Good muzzle which gives him a masculine appearance but with that essential teddy bear look. Eyes are dark and of a typical shape. Ears are well set - could just be a tad smaller and wider set. Good length to neck, which displays a slight arch. Shoulders well laid and really good return to upper arm. Chest deep and well developed. Upper end of standard size wise but so well balanced throughout. Back firm and strong. Well turned stifles. Low set hocks. Tail perfect for set and carriage. Coat was harsh to touch. Bernese

Open (4,0)

One of my favourite breeds and some nice ones here.

1st: Akehurst & Bridges’ Ch Kernow All My Loving. Really catches the eye. Classy looking girl. Lovely head with strength but retains femininity. Symmetrical markings on head. Skull to muzzle of correct proportions. Lips slightly developed. Dark, almond eyes. Ears set high and raised slightly when alert. Good muscular neck. Moderate angulation to shoulder. Lovely bone for size. Would prefer slightly more length to foreleg. Chest does reach to elbows. Well ribbed. Tad long in loin. Firm topline. Slightly straight in stifles. Hocks low to ground. Smoothly rounded rump. Well balanced stride on the move. Lovely rich markings. Really light on her feet. Presents a most solid overall picture.

Strong head with good width to skull. Well defined stop. Slightly developed lips. High set ears of medium size. Medium length to neck. Good shoulders and upper arm. Lovely bone. Round feet. Just off square in body. Deep chest of good width. Muscular loins. Good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Not such a nice rump as the winner and croup was a little straight. Tail a little high set for me. Moved very soundly, though not as precise as the winner who also has that edge of class.

Great Dane

Loins strong. Athletic in appearance without weakness. Well bent stifles. Hocks low set. Lovely graceful action. Just lost topline on occasions. Good length to neck leading into really well angulated shoulders. Upper arm is well under her. Chest reaches to elbows. Good length through the chest. Muscular loins. Nice croup and tail set. Would prefer more definition at the hocks. Moves soundly in all directions.

2nd: Skilling & Folkes’ Dacfolke Ianthe. Preferred the head on this bitch. Lovely skull to muzzle ratio. Lovely dark mask. Typical roman nose towards the tip. Medium length to neck. Great construction throughout. Medium bone for size. Lighter all through than 1st at present. Really admired her super side gait. Lacked the confidence today to win this class. Very promising.
