Open Show – 9th November 2019

Thank you very much to the committee for offering me this appointment, the exhibitors for kindly entering and bringing their dogs under me and to my able Steward Jane who kept the ring running efficiently and looked after me very well.  I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

Rough Collie

PG (5, 1a) 1st Scamp’s Stregato The Maleficent At Marketdene, 2yo sable and white bitch, overall presented a pleasing, well-proportioned and balanced outline, and won through being the best mover of those present.  Whilst a breed which places a lot of importance on head, this girl was a little plain in head and not quite the typical expression, however she did have a well-blunted wedge with a slightly perceptible stop, dark eye of medium size, and well-set ears.  Slightly arched neck of good length, well set into wither, level topline with slight rise over loin, good depth of chest reaching to elbow, well boned and the best feet of those present.  Her profile movement was effortless with a good length of stride and was the best coming, hind movement a little close.  Pleased to award her BOB on her movement and overall proportions and balance.

2nd Legge’s Kalzan Love You Inside And Out, 16m sable and white bitch, better head than 1 and with a sweet expression, good ear carriage, reasonable length of neck, feet a fraction flat but better than 3rd place, little narrow in front but has time on her side, profusely coated. Moved ok in profile bit a bit close coming and going.

3rd Legge’s Kalzan Love Young Dream, litter sister to above.

O (5, 1a) 1st Legge’s Kalan Kiss By An Angel, 16m sable and white bitch litter sister to 2nd and 3rd in PG, best outline and most typical head and expression in this class, long neck accentuated by big white collar, slightly narrow in front although could improve with maturity, good topline, good depth of chest reaching to elbow with good spring of rib, feet a little flat, good angulation, best mover in class although a little close behind.  RBOB.

2nd Legge’s Kalzan Can’t Stop Loving You, litter sister to above, well-proportioned in outline, typical head with sweet expression, dark eye, good ear placement, good angulation fore and aft, good depth and spring to rib, well-fitting profuse coat, not the confidence of 1, moved ok.

3rd Patman’s Pick Pocket Via Samhaven.

BPIB Ware’s Poker Face Du Clos De Sea-Wind At Wassail, 6m sable dog, very outgoing, well covered, moved well and with confidence for such a baby.  4th in PG.

Welsh Corgi Cardigan

PG (2, 1a) 1st Siviter’s Faywaido Spice, 10mo brindle bitch with white markings, good body length in proportion to height, foxy head with broad skull, wide set dark eyes with characteristic dark rims, large ears of correct shape an well set, good length of neck set well into correctly angulated shoulders, level topline, deep chest well ribbed back, excellent bone, front legs moulded around chest,  and large, well padded tight feet, well angulated hindquarters with good width of thigh, hocks straight when viewed from behind, brush-like tail well set and carried correctly, moved very well, delightful temperament.  BOB & BPIB.

O (2) 1st Lee’s Wildcard Spotcheck For Horcrux, 2yo well marked blue merle dog with typical white markings, good proportions, good head planes, widely set blue eyes flecked with brown, reasonable ear set but not keen on using them today, reasonable length of neck, good depth of chest, level topline, excellent bone and feet, good width of thigh, moved well.

2nd Siviter’s Rubegud Takin The Mick ShCM, 5yo dark brindle dog with white markings, good body proportions, good depth of rib, well boned, tight feet, good hind angulation but cow hocked when viewed from behind although moved well.  Just preferred front of 1 and slightly overweight today.

Leonberger

PG (2, 1a) 1st Smith’s Dacfolke Odina, 3 ½ yo bitch, sandy with black mask and shadings, the first word on my notes was ‘fabulous’.  Balanced outline, everything in proportion, typical of the breed and in no way exaggerated.  Good head proportions, deep muzzle correctly tapered, oval shaped medium brown tight eyes, kind expression, good size, shape and set of ears, neck of good length into well laid shoulders, firm level topline, broad ribs of good depth reaching to the elbow, well boned forelegs, excellent rounded feet with well arched toes, moderate hind angulation with long upper thigh, and hocks low set and totally straight when viewed from behind, tail well furnished and reaching just below hock.  Moved effortlessly with reach and drive whilst holding a level topline.  BOB and G1.

O (1) 1st Smith’s Dacfolke Vagabond ShCM, impressive red male with black mask and shadings of nearly 7 years, masculine dog of lovely type and outline, good head, dark eye, unfortunately didn’t use ears, reasonable length of neck, slightly short in upper arm, good depth of chest, level and firm topline, moderate hind angulation with good width of thigh, little cow hocked, kept topline on the move but not tracking up in profile and untidy going away.  RBOB

Newfoundland

PG (4, 3a) 1st Bodman’s Stelamah Victorious Nico, 6mo black dog puppy, real baby, nice outline and type, good head proportions, dark tight eye, lovely expression, ears well set, good length of neck, level topline, well angulated fore and aft, good width of thigh, tail of good length, well off for bone and well groomed.  When moving favoured left front leg, but only a baby so hopefully that will improve.  BOB & BPIB.

O (1, 1a)

Rottweiler

PG (3, 2a) 1st Clapp’s Rockstarotts Iron Maiden, 8mo puppy bitch, at an awkward stage at the moment so a little long cast in body today, head developing nicely, good eye for shape and colour, lovely expression, good bone, fabulous tight feet, level topline, short in upper arm giving a ripple over the withers, good depth of rib reaching to elbow, good croup and well set tail, hindquarters with reasonable width of thigh and good low set hocks.  Time is on her side.  RBOB, BPIB & PG2.

O (1) 1st Vicks Ava Von Der Alten Festung At Vickangels JW (imp), 2yo bitch, for me not quite balanced being rather on the forehand, broad head, good eye for shape and dark colour, neck arched, slightly short in upper arm, good topline, croup and tailset, good bone and lovely tight feet, ribs well sprung and depth reaching to elbow, perfect tuck up,  moderate angulation behind, would prefer a little more width of thigh to add balance, moved out freely in profile, lovely temperament.  BOB.

Boxer

PG (5, 2a) 1st Burnetts Sushe Too Cool To Fool, large brindle male, square in outline, muscular and masculine, very typey in head, neck of reasonable length, good width to chest, slightly straight in upper arm, chest just reached to elbow, tight feet with well arched toes, well off for bone, good firm topline, well angulated hindquarters.  Moved ok.  RBOB.

2nd Tonkin and Pellows Rosanyos Santa Flora, 6 mo red puppy bitch, very nearly won this class.  Outline slightly longer than square currently, super typey head, good length of neck, well angulated fore and hind with good width of thigh, depth of rib reaching to elbow.  Moved well, just lost out on confidence and maturity today.  BPIB, PG1.

O (4, 1a) 1st Powells Jobaran Rock On, 4yo strong red male, balanced square outline, masculine and muscular, good typey head with dark eyes and good ear set, good length of neck with arch, shoulder with slightly straight upper arm, rib reaching  just to elbow, well boned, good catlike tight feet, firm topline, well angulated hindquarters with good width of thigh and low set hocks, best profile movement in class.  BOB.

2nd Burnetts Lahaina Sushetime With Casemates JW ShCM, 3 1/2 yo red male, correct square outline but not quite the balance of 1, good head for proportion and type, slightly thickset through neck, good topline, well boned with catlike feet, good spring and depth to rib reaching to elbow, well angulated hind quarters but would prefer tad more width to thigh, lovely low set hocks.  Powerful dog but didn’t move as well as 1.
