POLLARD CANINE SOCIETY PREMIER OPEN SHOW

SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2019

DOGUE DE BORDEAUX

First of all I would like to thank all the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge my lovely breed, and applaud you on such a fabulous show and what a stunning venue it was. Thank you to all the exhibitors for giving me such an amazing entry and allowing me the honour of judging all your beautiful Dogues. A special mention and thank you also to my very competent and efficient steward Kirsty Biggs who worked so hard all day and kept the ring running so smoothly.

JUNIOR (8,12)

It was wonderful to see such a lovely, promising class of youngsters all going through different stages of maturity, I will watch all their developments with interest.

1. GRICE & CLARKSON, FAIRHERO GO WEST CJW 19.

A beautifully balanced 14 month old red female who is maturing at just the right pace. A distinctive head with a forbidding expression, clear oval eyes set wide apart, nice broad muzzle displaying the correct undershot dentition. Excellent straight front assembly, with nice width and depth of chest dropped just below the elbows. Stood four square onto lovely tight feet. Correct level topline dipping just behind the withers which she held on the move. Ample substance for her age. Lovely tail set at the base of the croup and nice rear angulation. Moved out freely and did everything her handler asked of her and looked like she really enjoyed her time in the ring. This youngster has a wonderful magnetism that really drew me in, and never put a foot wrong. I was pleased to award her my RESERVE BEST OF BREED. I will watch her continued development with interest.

2. BAMFORTH, BELLAMIABAM LA VIE EST BELLE JW.

Another beautiful 14 month old dark red female, whom I have judged before when she was just 6 months old. She still maintains that air of attraction as you walk in the ring. A lovely trapezoid head, with a pronounced stop forming a near right angle. Nice clear, hazel eyes and well opened nostrils. Upper lips falling pendulous creating that lovely wide inverted V. A strong broad neck merging smoothly onto heavy muscled shoulders. Good broad loin, topline just a bit soft but hopefully will strengthen with maturity. When viewed from behind her rear pasterns are parallel which gave her good drive from the hindquarters. I was spoiled for choice between these two females, I just preferred the overall balance of my winner today.

GRADUATE (2,3)

1. RAWLINGS, MARUBA UP TOWN GIRL.

A quality 2 year old female, who I have admired for some time from ringside. She displays a lovely harmonious concaved outline, powerful but still maintains her femininity. A beautiful strong trapezoid shaped head with an excellent expression, displaying that breed typical inverted v. Correct undershot dentition. A broad, wide chest, ribcage deep and well sprung. Topline solid, withers well marked. Pasterns powerful and slightly sloping leading onto nice tight feet. Nice bend of stifle and a nicely muscled second thigh, good rear angulation. There is so much to like about this girl, nothing in exaggeration. Would have just liked to have seen a bit more animation whilst on the move in the challenge.

2. BAMFORTH, TEMPTRESS ROCKABYE AT BELLAMIABAM.

A 2 year old fawn female who was presented well and showed her socks off for her handler. Her head was in good proportion to her body, strong bone structure and full of substance. Built rather low to the ground with a compact body and very stocky in profile.

Would just prefer a little more length in the forearm to give her more reach in her movement. Coat fine, soft and short and groomed well. It was a joy to watch the bond between this female and her young handler as they worked the ring with ease, very well schooled and could teach a few more experienced handlers a thing or too.

OPEN (2,6)

1. BAMFORTH, REDLOUIS SEMTEX AVEC BELLAMIABAM SHCM IR JNR CH.

‘THE SHOWMAN’ What a striking 5 year old deep red Male, presented in fabulous condition and handled to perfection. He demanded my attention the minute he entered the ring. He had an air of confidence that said ‘Let me show you how it’s done’. His profile is lovely when viewed from all angles, stocky, athletic and imposing. Beautiful large head showing that typical forbidding expression and displaying just the right amount of wrinkle. Correct undershot dentition. Chest broad, powerful and deep. Nice solid broad loin. Feet strong and tight despite his weight and was well up on his toes. What a mover, when viewed from the side his reach and drive indicated maximum use of his moderate angulation and he really knew how to work the ring with such ease and showmanship. I had no hesitation in awarding him my BEST OF BREED, I was later very proud to watch him go on to win Working Group 1 in a strong line up with yet again another flawless performance, very well deserved.

2. EXLEY, CANISRED BALTI.

Another lovely substantial 4 year old dark red female, low in stature with a large trapezoid shaped head furrowed with just the right amount of wrinkle, strong deep stop, creating a near right angle. Muzzle broad, thick and short with a well defined chin. Large hazel oval clear eyes. Good straight front with ample bone. Shoulders powerful and well muscled. Good height to length ratio. Moderate bend in stifle. Unfortunately just didn’t have the ring presence or movement of her competitor on the day.

BEST PUPPY IN BREED

MORAN & MCALINDEN, AIBREAN BELLADONNA AT REDASHBUD.

What a lovely 10 month old female who has amazing substance and bone for one so young. She has a pleasing shape and outline that is coming along just nicely. Good in profile when stood from all angles with a straight parallel front. Head is developing well although it is not the finished article yet. Her forechest is deep and broad and well developed for her age. She moved smooth and freely around the ring and was handled beautifully and sympathetically by her handler to really get the best out of this youngster. I was pleased to award her my Best Puppy in Breed and was proud to watch her go on to take Puppy Working Group 2. Very well done.
