Stakes Classes and Handling

Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge the Stakes classes and Handling at the

AV Puppy Stakes (6/2abs)

1. Morgan’s Hexenmeister Magia Megra. 9 mth old black Schnauzer bitch. Beautiful feminine

bitch with excellent head and expression. Correct bite and neat ears. Good length of neck

leading to well laid shoulders. Depth of chest and spring of ribs adequate for age. Harsh

coat. Sound mover with excellent reach and drive in profile when settled. Very well Handled

2. Macpherson’s Octavian The Brave. 8 mth old brindle French Bulldog bitch. A lovely young

bitch with a very pleasing overall balance. Good head with correct ears. Good front

assembly, cobby body, gently roaching toward a moderately angulated hind quarters.

Moved soundly and freely. Very well handled.

AV Open Stakes (12/4abs)

1. Hancock’s Flamencoton Seimei (Imp Esp). 2 year old Coton du Tulear male. Excellent head

and pigmentation with a joyful expression. Correct topline rising towards a low set on tail.

Moderate, balanced angles at both ends and neat feet. Topline held on the move. Moved

soundly and freely. Presented in wonderful coat and condition.

2. Small’s Howthwaite Gentil Duke At Tilmoray. 14mth old Border Terrier male. A very game

young chap in excellent coat. Masculine head with neat ears. Correct bite. Long body with

well laid shoulders. Moved very well

Handling 6-30 (2)

1. Sophie Zbilut handling a 2 yo Swedish Vallhund. Not an easy breed to use for handling as

they are very ‘into’ everything going on around them. Sophie showed excellent shadowing

and neat pattern work to win the class. Her presentation of the dog at the end of patterns

was fantastic. She showed a great rapport with her dog and this could be seen in the

challenge for Best Handler in Show. When asked to move with another dog straight up and

down, the young Vallhund was quite intent in investigating the neighbouring dog, however

Sophie handled this extremely well, regaining the dogs’ focus on the task at hand. Best

Handler In Show.

2. Isabel Barrett handling a 2 yo Toy Poodle. A very stylish young handler beautifully presenting

her dog at all times. Neat pattern work and good shadowing. Just remember not to forget

the golden rule.

Handling 31 years + (9/1abs)

1. Shona Williams handling a French Bulldog. Shona had a great rapport with her French

Bulldog, demonstrating excellent pattern work and presentation to the judge. She showed

the bite correctly when asked and spoke quietly yet assertively to the dog so that he knew

what was asked of him. When faced with a tight space to get the dog from the table to the

floor, Shona showed initiative and removed the dog from the table from the opposite side,

ensuring not to get between the dog and the judge.

2. Wendy Woolley handling a beautifully groomed American Cocker Spaniel. Another who did

not fault on the golden rule or on the difficult task at hand when asked for a reverse triangle.

It was very clear that this dog really loves her handler and they moved well together around

the ring. Just pipped to the post by one who’s pattern work was a tad straighter. Again

showed the bite correctly.
