Sunderland & District Canine Society

Firstly I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for appointing me to judge the Whippet and Handling Entry, I had a thoroughly enjoyable day and loved the friendly atmosphere of this very well run Premier Open Show.

WHIPPET

I had a wonderful Whippet entry with some stunning dogs to go over. However, some had nails longer than I would like so see (or hear on the floor!) and some lost on higher placings due to too much condition. Personally given the choice of an extreme, I would always rather see a Whippet in fit hard condition than flabby and flaccid but a happy medium for the show ring is easily obtainable with the correct amount and type of exercise.

PUPPY - 10 (2 absent)

1. Hardcastle's Dotalot Miss Honey. 9mth Fawn Bitch. Beautiful feminine head with the darkest pigmentation giving her a rather cheeky expression. Smooth shoulders leading to an unexaggerated topline and a good front assembly. Although very much a baby in make and mind, she excelled on the move. Her true, easy movement is what ultimately won her this class. She has excellent width of thigh and good hind angulation which really compliments her front, both moving together in harmony. Even when acting the clown her movement could not be faulted. BPIB & PG3.

2. Marshall & Thompson's Bohosoul Dawn Run. 8mth Fawn Bitch. Different in type to one but still a very nice young female. She has the most elegant of necks leading to a good lay of shoulder and excellent spring of pastern. Although longer in body to one, her overall balance was not effected. I would have liked to have seen her with a little more condition on for a puppy of this age, however she moved incredibly soundly fore, aft and in profile. Please be cautious not to over stretch her behind as this detracts from her lovely balanced outline.

3. McDowell's Shiny Sensation's Summer Treat

JUNIOR - 4 (1 absent)

1. McKay's Gilnockie Hot Tottie. 15mth Red Fawn & White Bitch. A very elegant and curvy young Bitch with a lot to like. Although a little higher on the leg, everything is balanced. Pretty head, excellent expression and perfect neat ears. Long graceful neck. Superb underline, complimented above by a gentle arch over the loin. Best mover in the class. Be careful not to move her too fast as she can get a little to happy in tail carriage.

2. Uggeri's Collooney Tartan Toffee At Bohosoul. 18mth Brindle Dog. These two could have swapped places on another day, however he was just out-moved by 1 on the last go round. He is a very smooth young male to go over, with a super coat. Great for size. Elegant arch to his neck and good front assembly. Superb tuck up for a male, however slightly flatter on top. Excellent hind angulation and strong thighs.

3. Jones' Kenaiteen Blizzard At Silvergarth

POST GRADUATE - 8 (3 absent)

1. Glaholm's Gazenorth Secret Identity. 2yo Fawn Bitch. This girl is right up my street, I just loved her! She is in the very best condition, smooth coat, flowing outline, not over muscled, not too flabby....Just perfect. She has a classic whippet expression, gentle and mild, with super pigmentation. Her ears are dainty, neat and correctly set. Good length of neck, smoothest of shoulders and a really lovely front. Nice neat, well knuckled feet and the best of pasterns. Great depth of chest, curvy underline and a topline to match. Lovely width of thigh. She has substance but not lacking elegance in anyway. So sound on the move. An effortless, easy mover with no exaggeration. Could have easily taken her home. Very happy to award her BOB and see her go HG2.

2. Lewis' Shalfleet Silk N'Honey By Makem. 3yo Brindle Bitch. Another girl I loved for her type and size. A beautiful head which oozes breed type. long neck, good shoulders and return of upper arm. excellent spring of pastern and good feet. Again, a girl with curves in all the right places. She was just a little plump for me today but this did not detract from her quality. Moved well, although a tad close behind compared to one.

3. Hardcastle's Collooney Nickers In A Twist

OPEN - 9 (3 absent)

1. Johnston & Wilson's Cyangrange My Cuppa Tea JW. 17mth Brindle Bitch. A very attractive bitch who is ideal for height. She has a pretty, well proportioned head with neat ears. A good length of neck onto clean, well laid shoulders. Fantastic strong flat muscle and superb body condition. Elbows tucked neatly under her, lovely spring of pastern and tight feet. Super tuck up, strong thigh and moderately angulated hind quarters. This lack of exaggeration in her construction led to the same in her movement. A true easy mover who moved with purpose and drive regardless of the direction. RBOB

2. Glaholm's Rae Renowned At Gazenorth JW. 3.5yo Brindle Dog. A well made and conditioned male who oozes masculinity. Classic expression and head, strong long neck and a really wonderful front assembly. Another showing no exaggeration in outline. Lovely gentle arch over a strong loin. Great depth of thigh and well let down hocks. Super feet. Powerful on the move as one would expect from how he is made. Just out-moved by 1 in front today but the two could have swapped places on another day.
