Thanks to the committee of Windsor Gundog Society for inviting me to judge my breed at their well run open show. Overall I had a nice typy entry, with no absentees. I was spoilt for choice.

Puppy D/B (1,0) 1st & BPIB Tolriver Enzo at Owlspoint (Mrs Bell & Miss Maddox) standing alone this 6 month old chestnut male looked quite the picture and his short, sleek coat shone in the winter sun. His head is masculine, with tight eyelids, a big nose and pronounced occiput. He has a decent forehand, well sprung ribs and depth of chest and is strong behind. I thought him mature and sound for his age, standing fore square on good bone and neat feet. He moved steadily. A good prospect.

Junior D/B (3,0) 1st & RBOB Braccorions Never Say Never (Mrs Critchley) this 15 month old chestnut bitch is of a lovely type and has a classic Bracco outline. She has a lovely head with plenty of work in it - divergent planes, pronounced occiput, big spongy nose and tight eyelids - eyes still could darken a little more but she is young yet. She has a deep chest, well sprung ribs and a short loin with balanced angulation. She moved steadily and soundly and was just pipped in the challenge by a more mature bitch at the top of her game. 2nd Tolriver Enzo at Owlspoint. 3rd Polceveras Visconti (Mr Gourdin) This young man had possibly the best head of the entry – a classic, quality Italian skull, lovely ear set and kind eye. However he is still a little raw all through, needing to drop in chest and spring in rib. On the move he had a lovely time but was difficult to assess. With maturity he should make a quality dog.

Graduate D/B (4,0) 1st Braccorions Never Say Never. 2nd Braccorions Meant to Be with Piccorino (Mrs Rose) 18 month old orange bitch. She is moderate all through and very typical in the head with good eye, pronounced occiput, is narrow at the zygomatic arch, has a big spongy nose and good leathers. She was a little wide behind today and could have tighter feet and pasterns. Nevertheless a quality girl who moved very well in profile. 3rd Jack Di Montericco (Mr & Mrs Sellwood) this 2 year old chestnut dog is a stallion and has much to offer the breed. He has a good masculine head, strong body and is powerful behind. A little elbowy in front but drives well from the rear.

Open D/B (3,0) 1st & BOB Madreliath’s Omaggio (Ms Powell) this 5 year old orange bitch is in her prime. In profile there is no mistaking her breed. She has a lovely head with classic divergent planes, a strong deep body which is almost square, strength in the loin, excellent oval bone and feet, and is well-muscled behind. On the move she was steady and sound with good reach and drive. She won the entry based on her overall type and was well handled to bring her virtues to the fore. 2nd Sh Ch Owlspoint Master of Trouble (Mrs Bell & Miss Maddox) an upstanding 4 year old orange male, presenting a picture of strength and soundness. He is in super condition being well muscled and moved soundly. Just a little strong in head for me, but has many breed attributes and is a well-deserved champion. 3rd Sazmallin Dollywagon Pike (Mrs Critchely) This chestnut bitch completed a trio of very nice Bracchi.
