Northern Basenji Society

Northern Basenji Society 03/11/2019 I would like to thank the committee of the Northern Basenji Society for the honour of judging at their open show. I had a very good entry on paper, but unfortunately there were a large number of absentees. However the entry was full of quality and I was very pleased with my winners.

Puppy Dog (3,2) 1st & RBD Hardy & Hallam’s Tokaji Nashville Rebel, this 10 month old red/white presents an impressive picture and is maturing well. He has a head of good proportions, with lovely fine wrinkle - including side wrinkle - neat hooded ears which are set on well, and lovely dark almond shaped eyes. He has a neat, well filled front, lovely fine bone and good feet. His well arched neck leads to super shoulders, a short back, fine pliant skin and excellent rear angulation. He has a super tail set and carriage and moved well both coming and going and in profile, giving the desired gazelle like appearance. Unfortunately a change of handler unsettled him in the challenge and he was beaten for best dog by his litter brother.

Junior Dog (1,0) 1st & BD / BPD Hardy & Hallam’s Tokaji Walking in Memphis, smart, tri coloured litter brother to the puppy class winner and many of the above comments apply. Indeed I am sure they will change places many times. He has a nicely proportioned head with small, neat, well hooded ears and dark eyes. He has a balanced outline with a well filled front, straight bone with good feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, neat, well set on tail and again he has excellent rear angulation. Once settled he moves very well and is a striking dog to watch in profile.

Novice Dog (2,2)

Post Graduate Dog (1,1)

Limit Dog (1,0) 1st Drummond’s Djoser Khamsin, this 5 year old male has a classic outline being leggy, short backed with very moderate angulation. He has a pleasing head, with the desired fine wrinkle, however he is a little broad in skull for me and his ears could be set further forward. He lacks infill in chest but has long straight bone, good length of neck and a strong top line, which he held well on the move.

Open Dog (3,2) 1st Dunsdon & Fox’s Ch/Aust Ch Am Grand Ch Kazors Breaking the Bank, smaller in stature he nevertheless presents a well-balanced picture. Good head with ample wrinkle although his eyes could be darker. He has a neat front, good straight bone and neat feet. He is well ribbed with a tail set high on his back. He moved very well but was not in his best coat today.

Veteran Dog (3,3)

Bred by Exhibitor Dog (1,0) Djoser Khamsin (see limit dog)

Not Bred by Exhibitor Dog (2,1) Casentieri’s Adebankes King Kole, this smart black and white boy is well handled to get the most out of him. He is balanced although a little stronger all through than desired and so lacks the gazelle like grace called for in the standard. He has a wedge shaped head with small hooded ears, a dark eye and short muzzle although his coat could be finer and he lacks wrinkle. He has straight bone and neat feet, and moves very well. Best Black and White in Show.

Puppy Bitch (7,5) What a shame this class had so many absentees although I had 2 lovely puppy bitches to consider. 1st BPIS Hudson’s Tokaji Moon Over Miami with Mutoko, litter sister to my BD and RBD and she too is a quality basenji. This tri has a beautiful fine coat with pliant skin. She presents a very pleasing picture on the stack with balanced angulation, a very good forehand and a well arched neck leading into well laid shoulders. She has a lovely head with dark almond shaped eyes, small hooded ears set well forward on top of her head and good wrinkle. She still needs to strengthen in top line but this should come as she matures. She moves beautifully, the best of the entry up and back and is very eye-catching in profile. Also Best Tricolour in Show (judged on coat) 2nd Falcus’ Adebankes Lime Lambada Phareal, another lovely head with super expression, good wrinkle and neat hooded ears. Longer in the loin than 1st and coat not as fine and pliant. She moves very well.

Junior Bitch (0 entries)

Novice Bitch (3,2) Tokaji Moon Over Miami with Mutoko (see Puppy Bitch)

Post Graduate Bitch (1,0) 1st Falcus’ Marsala Mysterious Talisman Phareal, nice sized bitch, well balanced outline although her coat could be finer. She has a pretty head, ears well hooded although they could be set further forward on top of her head. She is well muscled all through with neat feet and short nails and moves very well, if a little close behind.

Limit Bitch (2,1) Drummond’s Djoser Neferkheperu, very smart 5 year old bitch being high on leg and short in back, just needing a little more neck for balance. She has a nicely proportioned head, neat hooded ears but eyes that could be darker. She has straight bone and neat feet and moved very well.

Open Bitch (2,0) Two quality bitches 1st & RBB/RBIS Dunsdon’s Ch/Aus Ch Zandeena Getn Cort in the Act, a neat, well balanced bitch with a striking outline. She has a pretty head, with almond shaped eyes, neat ears and fine wrinkle, a good fine coat with pliant skin. She has good bone and feet, a strong top line and moves very well in profile. In the challenge she was just pipped to Best Bitch by the veteran bitch winner who was neater in front action. 2nd Drummond’s Kissangani Ask No Questions at Djoser a lovely 7 year old bitch who has a beautiful head, dark almond shaped eye, neat ears and fine wrinkle. She has fine bone and neat feet, although her pasterns could be tighter. She has a fine coat with pliant skin. She is a little too moderate in angulation for me, but is balanced and moves well.

Veteran Bitch (3,2) 1st BB & BIS & BVIS Drummond’s Ch Kissangani Dream Maker at Djoser, hard to believe this beautiful tri colour bitch is 10 years old - she showed like a youngster and gave nothing away in age. She is high in leg and short in back, well balanced fore and aft with good angulation all through. She has a neat well filled front, straight bone, neat feet and is strong in pastern. She has a good old fashioned head with the correct muzzle to head ratio, neat ears, good eye and fine wrinkle. On the move she was very impressive. She was on top form today and I was delighted to award her BIS.

Bred by Exhibitor Bitch (1,1)

Not Bred by Exhibitor Bitch (3,2) 1st Tokaji Moon Over Miami with Mukoto (see puppy bitch)

Brace (2,1) 1st Drummond’s well matched mother and daughter; both similar in type, moving very well together.
