East Of England Great Dane Club

EAST OF ENGLAND GREAT DANE CLUB MEMBERS LIMITED SHOW. 5TH MAY 2019

Thank you to the Officers, Committee, exhibitors and stewards for a very enjoyable day judging this lovely breed in a good size ring, outside on grass.

JUNIOR DOG (2)

1. CARSAN VINCENT, blue juvenile with a lot to like. He impressed me in outline and for type. He has a balanced head, with good proportion of foreface to flat back-skull with good lip and dark enough eye although ears could be slightly tighter. He needs to fill in a touch more in head, but it is masculine, balanced and his expression shows an eagerness to please and real intelligence. He has good depth to brisket, a perfect straight and well-boned front, holds a good top-line stood and in motion and he has perfect cat-like feet. He stands perfectly and naturally true unlike many here today. On the move he shows grace, elegance, dash and drive with accuracy and purpose coming and going. He was the first dog of the day that I judged and although a touch out of coat, I could find nothing to match him and was pleased to award him Best in Show.

2. JAYDANIA TIGER BAY, Brindle who displays a very strong and correct outline. He has very good working and chiselling under his eyes, if a touch too much stop for me. I liked him for depth and flow and he too holds a strong top-line but just didn’t match the winner for rear action or for dentition.

NOVICE DOG (1)

1. CULSEANDANES LORD ZEUS TO BANDWAR, Harlequin puppy. He has lovely teeth and the correct scissor bite, good balance to his head, just the right amount of stop, with some real working. He has good depth to his fore-chest for his age, has a good top-line and is confident and eager to please. He just needs to sort out his action coming and going, but has time on his side. He shows real promise.

POST GRADUATE DOG (2,1)

1. PREVELI BE YOURSELF, fawn 5 yr old. This dog holds a very good top-line and shows some real propulsion on the move. He has good angles both ends and uses himself to cover the ground. I found his head a little lacking in finesse for my taste and his ears could be smaller. He has excellent, tight cat-like feet and was shown in good hard condition.

LIMIT DOG (3,1)

1. DROOLAKISS TRUE GENTLEMAN TO MURRAYVHAYLE. Fawn dog with real ring presence. I found him a touch strong in head for my liking with enough stop and lip. He does however show correct action coming and going, he has real depth throughout , is very substantially put together and he holds a perfect top-line both stood and on the move. I just preferred the elegance, style and dentition of the Junior and today he had to settle for Res Best Dog.

2. CARSAN BOOTSTRAP BILL. A good size male with a correct and impressive outline and a decent head, alas, not the dentition as laid down in the breed standard. He was also not on form today, a real handful for his owner and was un-co-ordinated on the move.

OPEN DOG (3,1)

1. GRIFFINDANE ATHOS. This male presents a very strong and typical outline in the line-up. He has superb flow of neck into shoulder with correct head-carriage. He has lovely bone and tight feet, good depth to his fore-chest and moved well. I found his head just too much for my taste in terms of loose and pendulous lip making his underline undesirable and his ears could be smaller and tighter too.

2. BANDWAR FOR ACES HIGH. The best ears of the day, he presents a picture of strength and was more compact than the winner in outline. He has good depth and is substantially made, but his head just didn’t appeal to me and I found him a little un-co-ordinated on the move too compared to the winner.

SPECIAL VETERAN DOG OR BITCH (1)

1. LEAMAP BLOSSOM HILL. I was delighted to be able to judge this impressive 9 yr old who must have been quite something in her day. She had the most perfect head, exquisitely feminine, with good fill, wonderful eyes and perfectly sized and well-placed ears. She is a real credit to her owner and thank you for bringing her today.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (3,2)

1. TAMZDANE CINNDOUGHRELLA, a fabulous harlequin baby, just 6 months old. My notes say ‘WOW’, what balance and what a wonderful side-gait. She moves like an experienced professional, flowing from head to toe, she reaches and drives, covering the ground with consummate ease, holding the perfect top-line. I liked her head which has some real fill and working. She has great depth for her age with excellent layback of shoulder. She is well-ribbed and has excellent length to her forehand with well-muscled quarters. She still needs to come together coming towards you, but her exuberance can be forgiven as she definitely has time on her side. I loved her and was pleased to award her Best Bitch, Reserve Best in Show, Best Opposite Sex and Best Puppy.

PUPPY BITCH (1)

1. KINNEGANS SUPERNOVA AT DAYKONEA. A pleasing fawn youngster with a truly beautiful head and eye and very good ears. I think that she is at the ‘in-between’ stage and needs to grow on a touch to give her that flow of neck into shoulder. Her top-line is firm and she has good depth, but needs to sort out her front on the stack and also on the up and down too. I would love to see her again as she matures on.

JUNIOR BITCH (5,2)

1. CARSAN SAVANNA, litter sister to the BIS winner and similar remarks to him apply. Initially a touch hesitant, but once she settled did enough to win this class and later Res Best Bitch. She has correct width and depth, lovely bone, tight feet and a strong top-line. On the move she was by far the most accurate of this class coming and going with a very good side-gait too.

2. AXFORD GEORGIE’S GIRL OF RIMOR. Another bitch with very good flow of neck into shoulder, presenting a very good picture on the stack. I preferred her for head, where I felt she really did excel. I did, however, found her slightly narrower all through than the winner and she couldn’t quite match the fluidity on the move.

3. IMAGINE IZZY GIANTS MAY BE’S PLACE MURRAYVHAYLE.

YEARLING BITCH (3,1)

1. EMPRESS ELVIRA V ROSHERTA JW. A larger and substantially built bitch with lots to like. She impressed me for her lovely flowing outline, excellent shoulders and strong top-line. On the move today she was very un-co-ordinated behind.

2. AXFORD GEORGIE’S GIRL OF RIMOR

POST GRADUATE BITCH (2)

1. DORNOIR LUCIANA. This bitch scored for me in side-gait, width and accuracy coming and going. I found her head a touch strong for a female, but she has good depth to fore-chest and lovely bone,

2. TAMZDANE SOFA SO GOOD. Well-off for bone and depth, she has superb ears but was totally unsettled on the move and tended to roach her top-line.

LIMIT BITCH (3,2)

1. CARSAN MADM CHENG. A very elegantly made Black with a very clean head, keen eye and lovely shape well-set ears. On the move she tended to fall into a pace, but once out of it she showed really good side-gait and some accuracy coming and going. I really did like her, but she was determined today was not her day and she subsequently paid the price.

SPECIAL OPEN FAWN (3,1)

1. DROOLAKISS TRUE GENTLEMAN TO MURRAYVHAYLE

2. PREVELI BE YOURSELF

SPECIAL OPEN BRINDLE (2)

1. JAYDANIA TIGER BAY

SPECIAL OPEN BLACK (5,2)

1. CARSAN MADM CHENG

2. BANDWAR FOR ACES HIGH

3. EMPRESS ELVIRA V ROSHERTA JW

SPECIAL HARLEQUIN OPEN (3,1)

1. TAMZDANE SOFA SO GOOD

2. DAY SUE BORN READY, a very strong-headed male who couldn’t match the winner for depth all through. I found him a touch un-co-ordinated in side gait but he has the most amazing temperament and was thoroughly enjoying himself in the ring.

SPECIAL OPEN MANTLE (2)

1. DAMARKANN MARQUISITE. This dog, although a touch overdone in head for my taste, is an incredibly sound mover with perfect dentition both of which won him this class. I liked him for ring presence and depth too.

2. RAVENDANE DEAL ME IN WITH ELBAREVOL. He impressed me greatly in outline and side-gait with a very lovely shape head and clean eye and on first appraisal I thought that he would be my winner. He was, however, unfortunately unable to match the winner particularly with regard to dentition and soundness on the up and down.
