THE KENNEL CLUB JUNIOR WARRANT COMETITION SEMI-FINALS 13TH OCTOBER 2019.

Having been involved with this competition for many years, either as a competitor or as the main ring commentator here at Discover Dogs and at Crufts it was a huge honour to be invited to be one of the two judges (along with co-judge Darren Clarke) for this year’s exciting semi-final of the Kennel Club Junior Warrant Competition 2019.

Having won the toss and selected Ring One, I was overwhelmed with the quality of quite frankly, ‘outstanding’ dogs that I was presented with and I found that my task of cutting the 30 down to just 10 for further consideration was a really difficult one (I could quite easily have short-listed another 5 of the JW all-stars without any difficulty).

In the end, I think that the final five that I chose to send through to the Grand Finale at Crufts 2020 are spectacular and ultra-sound examples of their respective breeds and I think that they all show huge potential for the future of the sport.

The five Grand-finalists chosen by me are:

• KING OF HELLULAND LOVE ACTUALLY AT DAREBEAR (IMP SVK) JW, a striking and captivating Newfoundland (bitch).

• ANZHELA HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH CALAQUENDI JW, a’ full of himself’ and very extrovert, top quality Pug (dog).

• SERENAKER MAID IN AMERICA JW, an ultra-feminine, accurate and free-moving Beagle (bitch).

• BE MY DOG’S TOPSAIL CODY OF ZANJERO (IMP DEU) JW, a beautiful head and a fantastic moving Chinese Crested (dog).

• BRAEFELL GOSHAWK JW, the stylish, foot-perfect and ground covering Weimaraner (dog).

Those who five which made the short-list were:

MEITZA ERIK THE KING JW, Welsh Corgi (Pembroke),

TOORALIE’S OCHO RIOS JW, Shetland sheepdog,

JEONTY DREAMS A DREAM WITH KARENSBRAE JW, Glen of Imaal Terrier,

AFONBACH WINTER IS COMING JW, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and

IZLOU WALNUT FORGET ME KNOW JW German Spitz Mittel.

Visiting the Discover Dogs exhibition, a real ‘showcase’ for all of the fabulous breeds of dogs, represented by die-hard, dedicated, seasoned, knowledgeable exhibitors and breeders all under one roof is an exhilarating experience and I thoroughly recommend it to you for next year if you get the chance to attend.
