Antrim & District Canine Club Open Show

7th December 2019

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I would like to thank Antrim and District Canine Club for inviting me to judge at their Christmas Open Show, a highlight in our local show calendar. Thanks to Gavin, our ring steward, for keeping the ring running smoothly and looking after me so well. My biggest thanks go to my fellow breed enthusiasts for allowing me the privilege to go over their Staffords. I am very grateful to you all for every entry and for accepting my opinions and placings gracefully and sportingly. It is gratifying to note that Staffords had the 3rd highest entry figure for the show and personally gratifying to see that my Best of Breed went on to take 1st place in the Terrier Group.

Puppy Dog/ Bitch 4 (0)

1st Brockmar I Am Titanium. Black brindle with white, of standard size and excellently proportioned. He has a strong, well-shaped head with perfectly set rose ears and the darkest of eyes giving a beautiful expression. A purposeful muzzle houses a perfect scissor bite with nice big, white teeth. He has a good, straight front with tight and well padded feet. His short, strong neck leads into well placed shoulders and he is close coupled. He moved with ease, keeping his level topline at all times and displaying discernible drive. There is a touch of class about this lad and I was very pleased to award him Best Puppy and then Best Dog. Well done, I will follow his progress with interest.

2nd Belnite Lord Odin. A black and white pied dog of some strength. He has excellent breed type and great fitness. Standard height with a strong head and a well sprung rib, his scissor bite is perfect and his good pigmentation and rose ears give him a good expression. His angulations and topline are spot on. He gave his handler a bit of a hard time but moved well when settled.

Junior Dog/Bitch (2, 1)

1st Magicgem Firestar at Remstaff. Red with white. A well shaped, feminine head with a good length of muzzle housing a good scissor bite and big, white canines. Darkest of eyes and good pigmentation. She has good strength and fitness with a well sprung rib. Angulations all correct which allowed her to move with drive and purpose. Impeccably handled and behaved. She stood alone here but she fully deserved her win.

Graduate Dog/Bitch (2, 1)

1st Magicgem Colossus at Remstaff. Red with white and a black mask. As his name suggests, this a big, strong boy with great bone and muscle mass. Strong in the head with a perfect bite and nice dark eyes, giving a good expression. He is in excellent condition and fitness with a perfectly level topline and correct angulations fore and aft. He has a deep brisket and a well sprung rib leading to a nicely tucked up loin. Today he made his handler work hard but his movement was free flowing and with drive from strong hindquarters when he settled.

Open Dog (3, 1)

1st Aboriginal One And Only. B Brindle with white on chest. An athletically built dog with good lift and the cleanest of heads. He has a scissor bite with large canines in a strong, clean and purposeful muzzle. Dark eyes and well set rose ears give him a wicked expression. With a deep brisket and good rib, his perfect angulations allowed him to move with drive and purpose, maintaining his level topline. He is well tucked up in the loin; his excellent level of fitness belies his years and this helped win him the class today.

2nd Loyalstaff Old Hickory. Black brindle. A top sized dog with strong bone structure and huge strength all over. His head is strong, wide and deep through with well-set rose ears and dark eyes. He has a deep brisket and well sprung rib. Good construction, perfect angulations and a level topline. He moved and handled well.

Open Bitch (5, 2)

1st Bultery Black Pearl. Star of the day for me. Black brindle with plenty of lift. She has a good strength of head which is discernibly feminine and balanced by a good, purposeful muzzle housing a perfect bite. Perfectly set rose ears and the darkest of eyes give her a beautiful expression. Her neck is strong and leads onto well placed shoulders. A perfectly straight front with neat, tight and well padded feet. She has a deep brisket and good rib, a level topline and perfectly angled, strong hind quarters. Very good fitness with plenty of muscle, highlighted by her short and gleaming coat. The sum of her construction is her movement; free flowing with discernible drive from the rear and maintaining her level topline. She fully deserved Best Bitch and I was very pleased to award her Best Of Breed today. She immediately went on to take 1st place in the Terrier Group. Congratulations!

2nd Bultery Cherry’s Charmer. Black brindle with white. Litter sister to 1st and with many of the same virtues. In fit and hard condition which highlights her straight front, good angulations and level topline. She has a strong head, well set rose ear, dark eyes and a perfect scissor bite. She moved well and was perfectly handled.
