LABRADORS

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at their well-run, friendly show at a superb venue. My outdoor ring was an ideal size to allow the exhibits to make good use of the space. Grateful thanks also to my steward, David Arrondelle, for his efficiency and for keeping the ring flowing. Thank you to all who entered under me. I had a good entry and was splitting hairs between placing in all classes, that could have changed on a different day. All exhibits were presented in good condition but one or two were carrying a little excess weight that affected their movement.

Puppy (2,0)

1st R & J Mills’ Trendlewood Day Dreaming. I really liked this 7½ month old yellow bitch as soon as she came into the ring. Eye catching outline, very balanced, lovely broad feminine head, depth of body in proportion with length of leg, good bond, tight feet, good front and rear angulation. Good coat. She had ring presence and was clearly enjoying her day as she moved effortlessly, driving to cover the ground. BP

2nd MT Baker & JM Judd’s Harpitts Minnie Mack. Very promising well structured 6 month old chocolate dog enjoying his first show. Balanced outline with equal front and rear angulation. Broad masculine head with lovely expression. Good reach of neck, good bone, length of leg in proportion with depth of body. Good coat. Moved well but just needs to tighten up. Lost to 1 on movement and maturity.

Junior (6,4)

1st MT Baker & JM Judd’s Harpitts Minnie Mack. I liked this 16½ month old, strong, fit, upstanding chocolate dog. Broad masculine head with kind expression, good reach of neck good bone, length of leg in proportion with depth of body, good front and rear angulation, good coat, tail set and otter tail. Move with drive, reaching well to cover the ground. RBOB

2nd DR & SJ Kennett’s Magnavalleys Man on the Moon. 14 month old chocolate dog of pleasing type, broad masculine head, good reach of neck, depth of body in proportion with length of leg, good coat, would have preferred more bone, strong front and angulation. Moved well but not with as much drive as 1.

3rd A & M Hoban’s Meadowleigh Black to Black

1st MT Baker & JM Judd’s Harpitts Minnie Mack – as junior

2nd B Jeffrey’s Carohall Day Dreamer at Mibridge. 3½ black dog of nice type, broad masculine head, good bond, strong front with good angulation, coat in good condition, depth of body in proportion with length of leg. Moved well but not with as much drive as 1.

Open Dog (3,1)

1st DR & SJ Kennett’s Magnavalleys Cornishman. I really liked everything about this very balanced, strong 2 year old black dog. Nice type, eye catching outline. Broad, classic masculine head with kind expression. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders set on good boned legs in proportion with depth of body. Level top line and good tail set, equal for and rear angulation. He didn’t put a foot wrong on the move, driving effortlessly around the ring. Delighted to watch him take GP4. BOB

2nd B Jeffrey’s Lembas Swings Both Way at Mibridge. 5 year old black dog, nice type, broad masculine head, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, good fore and rear angulation, good bone, would have preferred a little more length and depth of body. Moved well around the ring covering the ground well but with not as much drive as 1.
