The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club
Open Show
7th December 2019
I would like to thank the committee for their hospitality today; there was a great atmosphere with plenty of Christmas cheer. I was and still am very honoured to have been offered this appointment. I am probably one of the youngest to judge one of the Clubs’ shows. I was more than thrilled with the entry. Thank you to everyone who bought their dogs under me and for accepting my decisions so sportingly.
One point I feel I must address, cleanliness, I was disappointed in some dogs with dirty knickers and knotted coats. This is unpleasant to run your hands through and does not give a positive impression. Having said this all my winners were superbly presented.
Veteran Dog (2,1abs) 1st Garlouchi Just Magic of Charnavale JW - He stood alone but what a lovely dog to start the day with. A Blenheim with a well broken jacket and sort after lozenge. 10 years old but belies his age, moved out with confidence around the ring holding a rock-solid top line and carrying his tail straight off his back. Moderately boned with good spring of rib, masculine head with large round eyes and good pigment. A credit to his owner.
Minor Puppy Dog (3,1abs) 1st Lilorchard Williams Pear with Fortunamajor - A raw baby of just 6 months, Blenheim with well broken markings and good depth of colour. Correct dentition. He is a good size for his age and holds a promising outline when standing. He has good expression that will only get better, lovely dark round eyes. Needs to settle on the move, but still only a baby.
2nd Khatibi Royal Male - Another raw baby of just 6 months, Tri-colour with an excellent coat coming and Tan in the correct places. Smaller male all through. Very exuberant and full of spirit, fantastic to see. Moved well in profile and held a level top line at all times.
Puppy Dog (4,1abs) 1st Granasil Garibaldi - 11 month old Ruby dog, changing his coat but you can see good depth of colour coming. Correct dentition. A masculine dog yet still moderate. Excellent front assembly with good reach of neck slightly arched, leading to well laid shoulders and depth of chest. Moderate bone with good spring of rib. Level top line which he always held, moved out well around the ring, wagging his tail showing an excellent personality. I was happy to award him Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Ouzlewells Tomasso - 11 months old, smart young man with rich Blenheim coat. Correct dentition. Still with some maturing to do to reach full potential, he held a good shape and excellent top line, nice expression with dark eyes and well placed ears. Well handled.
Junior Dog (4,2abs,1wd) 1st Jolainey Blaze - Just 12 months. I liked this dog and not one I had noticed before. Blenheim well marked. Correct dentition. Compact but his construction does not suffer for this. Correct moderate bone for his size, well made all through will balanced angulation. Tail well set. His fortune is his head, undeniably male, yet still soft and gentle. Great eyes, dark round and melting. Ears well placed - a shame to see they had been chewed. In my final 3 for best dog, I am sure there is more to come for this young man.
Yearling Dog (1,0 abs) 1st Leogem Ravel - 22 month old Blenheim with a perfuse coat turned out beautifully. Correct dentition. Heavier marked but does not detract. Moved out with enthusiasm around the ring holding a level top line and moved true both coming and going. He has a lovely expression with round dark eyes. Ears well placed with plenty of feather.
Novice Dog (3,1abs) 1st Jolainey Finlay - 12 Month old Blenheim dog, very masculine. Correct dentition. Moved well around the ring holding a good top line. Nice to go over, well put together all through with plenty of bone. In-between coats at the moment but it has good texture. Nice eyes and well placed ears. A happy show dog and well presented as were all from this kennel.
2nd Lewisisle Highland Brave in Poppywood - A beautifully presented black and tan in full coat, nice bright tan in correct places. Correct dentition. He stood well and held a level top line. Good reach of neck with nice crest. Slightly finer boned. Correct gay personality, happy to be showing with his tail constantly wagging. Nice round eyes.
Post Graduate Dog (8, 2abs) 1st Wandris Evanly Legacy JW - Larger cut male, but superbly put together. Correct dentition. Well balanced angulation with good depth of chest. Moderately boned with good spring of rib. Moved out well around the ring with good drive covering the ground well. Holds a classic shape and a deep level top line at all times. Ears set between his nearly flat skull. Dark eyes. Happy personality always trying to please his owner. In my final 3 for best dog.
2nd Cavaliegh Eclipse - Tri colour with heavier marked mantle, tan in the correct places. Correct dentition. Scores highly for size and shape. Well put together with moderate bone. Moved out well around the ring on a loose lead. Excellent top line carrying his tail well straight off his back. Excellent personality constantly wagging. Superbly presented.
Limit Dog (3,1 abs) 1st Salegreen Brecon - A well-marked Blenheim dog who scores well for size. Correct dentition. Full of coat with long feathering. Delightful head, masculine yet still possesses the gentlest of expressions. He has large, round, dark eyes and rims. His ears are well placed framing his head. Great personality just bursting to come forth, today he was near foot perfect.
2nd Pamedna George Harrison at Leybourne - Black and Tan in full coat and so well presented. Correct dentition. Made well with good shape on the ground. Good depth of chest and moderate bone. He has excellent reach of neck. Nice head and expression with large round eyes. Unfortunately today his tail was very high on the move.
Open Dog (3,0abs) Two top class dogs headed this class a real pleasure to go over both of them.
1st Khatibi Bark Obama JW ShCEX - Well known Black and Tan I have judged before. Correct dentition. He has matured beautifully. Today he was on fire, the small ring seemed to suit him and he moved steadily with elegance and drive. Good shape with level top line and balanced proportions. Great reach of neck which is slightly arched. Well set on tail which was carried correctly at all times. Nice head masculine yet still soft, so hard to achieve in a Black and Tan. Presented in excellent condition, well-toned muscle and gleaming coat. He came into the ring and owned it today with his textbook Cavalier personality. Pleased to award him Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.
2nd Verheyan Foxx at Glebeheath - Elegance is the watch word with this lovely dog. Blenheim with well broken coat. Lovely size and shape, moderate throughout with correct bone. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Tail well set and carried perfectly. Excellent reach of neck which was set onto well angulated shoulders. Nicely proportioned head with large round eyes. Presented in outstanding condition, not a hair out of place, and well-toned muscle. Today he had to settle for Reserve Best Dog.
Veteran Bitch (8,5abs) An enjoyable class to judge. All 3 dogs were a credit to their owners.
1St Ch. Wandris Cute as a Button - Blenheim bitch, 7 and half years old, the only thing about her that makes you think of her as a veteran are a few grey hairs, the rest is timeless. Her dentition was perfect and her teeth sparkled. She powered around the ring today demanding to be acknowledged. Spot on for size and shape, balanced all through and so well put together. Good substance not overdone at all. A melting expression with large dark round eyes that you could get lost in. Never once lost her top line and you could have put a spirit level on her tail carriage. She never once stopped wagging her tail and on the move her whole body wagged with it. She completely stole my heart today. Pleased to award her Best in Show and Best Veteran in Show.
