North Devon Canine Association

Good dogs, sporting exhibitors, a wonderful hardworking committee who went above & beyond and great ring stewards – what more does a girl want when she has the pleasure of judging BIS & a group ? Thankyou to all for a great day.

I was seriously spoiled for choice at the end of the day for the final awards , there were really no dogs that weren’t in consideration.

BIS was the Min Smooth Dachshund Rose’s Pennydach Mystique. I have to say this young lady “ grabbed me at hello” today , so pretty & feminine her strong topline & excellent movement were the icing on the cake. She stormed round the ring with complete self assurance. What I particularly liked was I could really see her doing the job she was originally designed to do .

Res BIS France’s Miss Sophie di Luna Caprese at Torbrae JW ShCM- another lovely mover , beautifully presented she has lovely balance & breed type, her lovely personality oozed through .

BPIS was Kent’s stunning black Labrador Chyanhal Trevose of Trewinnard , I loved this young lady quality with no exaggeration, she has the balance with good movement that I look for in a gundog. I understand she has had a great start to her career & I am sure it will continue.

RBPIS was a lovely Min Schnauzer (I am sorry to say the number I have doesn’t seem to be in the catalogue.) She had a lovely outline, beautifully presented & had real presence in the ring.

Much as I love judging the youngsters it’s the veterans who really make my day –it is so wonderful to see the joy they have being out . The winner today was the immaculate Bichon Vanitonia White Sapphire for Magstarai, at 13 years to say she carries her years lightly is an understatement – you would never guess how old she is. Still has the firm topline of a youngster & her movement was a joy to see. Runner up was the Tibetan Spaniel Quest’s CH Chenrezi Keeper of Dreams JW SHCM , so dignified with a feminine head & well made body , she too showed no sign of age in her movement.

I was delighted to judge the import register & the hound group. The ring wasn’t the largest, but I am old school & I believe you just make the most of the situation & generally the exhibitors coped with humour (the group judging was certainly the biggest challenge! ). I can assure everyone that no dog was penalised because of ring size.

AV Import Register PG (3,0)

1. West’s Ojons Gjost Rider de l’aige de la Tournelle ( White Swiss Shepherd)- What a lovely dog to start the day with, still a junior he has an air of quality; attractive head with excellent pigment , lovely straight front with correct angulation, well balanced body he stood himself correctly , always a sign of good construction. Moved very well in side gait, he is just a little close behind. Lovely temperament. Was certainly in consideration later in the day. Best Import Register

2. Wilkinson’s Arkosltgeti Kocos Mjljmari (Hungarian Pumi ) – , correct size & proportions , feminine head with good eyes, not showing her ears to advantage today , steady temperament, moved ok .

3. Smith’s Cuidado Yikes Y’all (Hungarian Pumi)

AV Import Register Open (1)

1. Kirk & Turkey’s Angelcrest Shadow Master (Xoloitzcuintle) – what a charmer , full of personality , correct size with a typical head & expression , good neck flowed into good shoulders with correct front , moved OK. Could carry a little less weight to advantage. Res Best Import Register

Borzoi Open (2,1)

1. Umfreville’s Manitias Silver Prince of Voyshka- beautifully presented masculine dog, presented a pleasing outline , noble head , good shoulder and stifle , well proportioned body , good bone , moved well in the conditions , would just like him a little tighter in elbow .

Beagle Limit (1,0)

1. Robert’s & Spearing Linkinlees Laurina- very sweet bitch with a feminine head & pleasing expression, good straight front with nice tight elbows, correct shoulder & adequate stifle angulation, good topline, would like rib cage to be a little longer , moved out well. Res BOB

Beagle Open (2,0)

1. Robert’s & Spearing Linkinlees Lyric ShCM, ShCex- 2 more from the same litter as the bitch in limit so obviously many of the same comments apply! Very pleasing head & well made , shorter coupled than her sister with a better developed rib cage which tipped the scales for BOB . Gp3

2. Robert’s & Spearing Linkinlees Lucas- obviously when you are out with your well behaved sisters your only option is to express your character! As masculine as the girls are feminine , a little longer than my ideal in a male.

Min Longhaired Dachshund Open (2,0)

1. Norris’s Criscan Missmia- difficult decision made more difficult by the eventual winner not exactly being co-operative on the move , once I realised it was all one family the swapping of handlers solved the problem and this mature bitch moved well. Feminine head , balanced body , level topline , good strong quarters BOB

2. Norris’s Willowheath Bringing Hope to Criscan – giving a lot a way in age being just out pf puppy , in glorious b&T coat she had a pleasing head & expression , good shouders , level topline , moved OK but I found her kennel mates hindquarters more to my liking.

Min Smooth Haired Dachs PG ( 5,0)

1. Rose’s Pennydach Mystique- as already mentioned , ended up Best in Show, after heading up a pleasing entry of this breed. I think understated elegance describes her she is so unexaggerated and such a good mover. BOB & Hound group obviously !

Min Smooth Haired Dachs O (3,0)

1. Rudkin’s Keydax Layla for Dynastydax JW – a really nice bitch , with a feminine head , good neck & forechest , good shoulder, level topline , moved out really well , actually caused my dilemma of the day as it was a close call between her & the BOB , in the end I just preferred the eventually winners hocks when standing today. RBOB

2. Tree’s Ardenrun Sea Shanty by Keimantre, mature feminine bitch in excellent consition. Good forechest with a good shoulder, nicely ribbed , not quite the quarters of 1 , moved OK

3. Kilro’s Bronia Ramona at Janacop

Wire haired Dachs Open (3,1)

1. Phipp’s Bear Hound at Tufterslodge- litter sister and brother who were handled by two young ladies who obviously are very fond of their charges & handled them well. The winner was slightly more refined than her brother and was clearly the girl , she was well angulated and held a good topline . Moved well . BOB PG2

2. Phipp’s Grand Raven at Tufterslodge – her brother was certainly all boy and clearly of the same breeding, I hope he’s finished growing. Not quite the movement of 1.

Afghan Open (1,0)

1. Kreipe’s Knightwind Xactly What I Want -3 year old feminine bitch in hard muscular condition,. Feminine head with a pleasing expression, good straight front , correct length of back , good strong quarters.
