Blackpool Fylde Toy Dog Society Open Show

Sunday 8th September 2019 , Judge: Hazel Senior 

I was delighted to be asked to judge both coats at this show. The Committee had clearly worked tirelessly before and during the show to ensure a great day for all. I was unable to stay to support my principal winners in Best in Show however I was pleased to hear later that the Smooth coat BOB achieved RBIS and the Long coat BOB secured RBIS4.

Long coat Chihuahuas

Class 1 Puppy Dog or Bitch (5/4)  1st Emmerson’s Ismirelle’s Lady in Red, very raw and dainty, not quite 9 months, with pretty head. Movement ok, kept top line on the move and showed well for handler. 2nd Holland-Smiths’ Mysterious Land Monami Diamonchi (imp LVA) smart tri dog with good dark eye, head a touch exaggerated. Moved adequately, good tail carriage. Body to fill out, time is on side. 

Class 2 Junior Dog or Bitch (8/7)  1st Entwistle’s Dorenty’s Willy Ekaslike, correct sized, well-balanced sable dog. Good line of eye and ear set, lending well to his melting expression. Correct bite and good dentition. Moved with good reach and drive, super temperament shining through at all times. BOB and RBIS4. 2nd Humphrey’s Sleepyhollow Sonia Amarantos, 14-month-old blue fawn, with lovely dark eye; equalled the class winner on movement and construction, however not as confident today. 3rd Emmerson’s Ismirelle’s Parti Popper, cream and white parti dog with an advanced level of maturity at almost 9 months. Litter brother to puppy class winner, I preferred the tail set and carriage of this exhibit in the challenge, BPIB. 

Class 3 Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (10/9)  1st Emmerson’s X-Ismirelle’s Boy Dogomania JW (imp POL) Larger than my normal type however possesses many key breed attributes, so quality outweighed size in my final assessment. Sound construction, correct coat, well-muscled. Top line and tail carried well on the move, nice reach, could drive more from rear. 2nd Todd-McCoid’s Tinasjoy Tilly McTrotface of Rubyanlo, sable, smaller more typical sized bitch. Beautiful head and expression. Lacking a little in coat at the moment. 

Class 4 Open Dog or Bitch (8/7) 1st Wills’ Dorenty Dazzlin Duncan, 2 ½ year old cream dog in good, correct coat, nice large dark eye and dark pigment, moved with good reach and drive, maintaining top line. Settled nicely with handler during his turn, put on a good show to win class. 2nd Todd-McCoid’s Tinasjoy Georgia with Rubyanlo JW, very pretty sable bitch with good breed type; has been awarded top honours in the past as per her handler’s comments, unfortunately today she was lacking in confidence on the table and on the move making it difficult to place her higher in the class. 

Smooth coat Chihuahuas

Class 5 Puppy Dog or Bitch (7/6)  1st Daly’s Lozmarchi Café au Lait Chi Del Mar (Imp Spa) outgoing tricolour 11-month-old dog, good balance when standing still. Movement to settle with maturity, promising youngster, BPIB. 2nd Silverstein’s Pippa Des Etoiles D’Artemis Avec Silverchi (Imp Fra) first show for this very raw pup, pushed close to winner on breed type but understandably was a little overwhelmed by her day. 

Class 6 Junior Dog or Bitch (5/4)  1st Silverstein’s Silverchi Sassenach, fawn, 7-month-old bitch, up to size and I hope she has stopped growing, but sound in construction. 2nd Entwistle’s Dorenty’s Tinkerbell, 13-month-old tiny cream bitch, however each of her two or three pounds are full of character, of good construction for one so small. 

Class 7 Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (11/9)  1st Wills’ Corbrayash Poppet Luvs Dorenty, red fawn dainty bitch, apparently there to make up the numbers however for me she was the most typey of the class. Covered the ground well and very attentive to handler. 2nd Taylor’s Arkoschi Miss Prim N Proper, Black tri of almost two years, not as refined in type as winner, enjoys her home comforts. Moved well, showed consistently for handler. 

Class 8 Open Dog or Bitch (7/5)  1st Fothergill’s Diamonchi Mister Moon JW ShCM, two-year-old cream dog with good pigment to accentuate features, presents a solid outline in profile with well let down hocks, maintaining balance on the move, swift, forceful action. Good depth of rib, correct mouth and dentition. BOB and RBIS. 2nd Humphrey’s Amarantos Cassini JW, two-year-old cream bitch, similar type and construction to winner, excelling in movement, pushed hard for class however I preferred the profile of the winner.
