Midland Old English Sheepdog Club

Midland Old English Sheepdog Open Show 1/12/2019

I had a lovely day with the very amenable Old English and their owners. Such a good atmosphere with Christmas very well represented by Santa Claus and Committee with Christmas jumpers. Hospitality was much appreciated – nothing is more welcome than a hot meal on a cold day. I had a lovely entry but several absentees. I found the depth of quality in the bitches to be more uniform than in the males. Nearly all were presented to a high standard. I think bringing a dog who is less than well groomed under a judge from a ‘presented’ breed is a mistake and certainly does no service to the dog concerned.

MPD (1)

1. Hodgson; Ragglebarn Old Blue Eyes

A very enthusiastic young man who tried to lead his owner a merry dance. Lovely reach of neck and a well placed front with good bone. Good profile with slightly rising topline. Good feet. Very sound on the move when he put his mind to it, and when standing presented a square outline. Will watch this one with interest. BDP and BPIS

PD (2)

1. Porter; Beauvallon Pavarotti with Mellowdee

Attractive head and good pigment. Straight front and good rear action on side gait, on this young chap. Good reach of neck, correct topline. Rib still needs to develop. Well prepared and with good coat quality and colour for a puppy.

2. Howsam; Melleonars Go for Gold at Jandoes

Well boned and cobby there was a lot to like on this youngster. Well prepared and handled. Very unsettled on the move.

JD (2)

1. Adrian-Coleman; Bovaron Going for Gold at Barcole

Well grown male with many attributes. Typical profile. Good head with width of muzzle and correct proportions. Lovely neck and front assembly. Prepared expertly. Rear action could be firmer

2. Storey; Magullpaws Kings Ransome

Longer in profile than 1 and not carrying the expected coat. He was a little overawed by the occasion I think. Preferred the quality of bone of the first.

1. Storey; Magullpaws Kings Ransome

PGD (4,3)

1. Cheshire; Molyneux Start Me Up

Well grown male with a typical outline. Good head with excellent pigment. Good reach of neck into a correct shoulder. Slightly rising topline and strong quarters. Moving out with ease showing a true front and driving rear. Well presented. Best Dog and Best Opp Sex

LD (1)

1. Kirkby; Macopa Moment In Time

Masculine dog. Good head with capacious skull and pigmented eyes and eye rims. Tends to stand a little weak in the rear but on the move this straightens out and he powers around the ring. Res BD

MPB (5,2)

1. Knights; Meadowbears Sweet Symphony for Maimist

At 6 months old and her first show, she did really well. Full of quality with everything you could wish for at this age. Good angles and absolutely sound on the move. BPB

2. Pullenl Meadowbears Sweet Serenade

Litter sister to 1 and many of the same remarks apply. Good outline and well handled and presented. Just prefer rear of 1 at the moment.

3. Meighan; Myzbobs Lochlands Diva

PB (3,1)

1. Knights; Meadowbears Sweet Symphony for Maimist

Repeat

2. Cartwright; Fy Nghalon or Coed at Applejem

Well grown on puppy with good muzzle and skull shape. Carrying too much weight which affects her movement a lot and needing to muscle up.

JB (4,2)

1. Brewer; Mellowdee Class Act

Lovely compact square bitch in good condition. Square in profile and standing true. Lovely head and an impressive mover. Good feet

2. Kirkby; Partamos May Hill Lady

Another good head on a slightly bigger style of bitch who is a very light blue. Not the balanced angles and movement of one. Good quality bone and decent leg length.

PGB (2,1)

1. Leggett; Meldale Diamond Moon

Good for size and profile. Excellent return of upper arm, which seems to be a bit of a problem in the breed. Good boning generally but head needs to mature more.

LB (2)

1. Halladay; Designer Girl Jazzy Sassy

Square and cobby, there is not a lot I would change on this bitch. Good angles and balance and moving soundly. Just needs a bit more condition on her and to muscle up a little more. ResBB and ResBIS

2. Hartley; Allhart Fallen Angel

Well presented girl of a bigger pattern than 1. Tending to stand over a lot of ground. Not being particularly cooperative with the handler. A good reach of neck and good rib cage to go over with strong loin.

OB (2,1)

1. Howsam; Jandoes Blazing Georgie Girl

Beautiful quality bitch giving me everything I was looking for. She stands square without aid and has a typical profile. She is well boned and has a great head piece with good proportions and pigment. Excellent reach of neck going into a textbook front. Good rib, short and strong loin. Strongly made rear which she uses to good effect. She is well up to size but frankly her assets more than compensate for this well balanced, soundly moving girl. BB and BIS
