Thank you to the exhibitors for accepting me as your replacement for David McCubbin, I enjoyed judging your dogs although the ring surface made it challenging for all concerned.

Retrievers (Flat Coated)

Puppy (1 entry) 1. Warrington’s Arminzeras King of the West to Woodavens (Imp Nor) 9m old male with a lovely expression, good length of neck, plenty of bone, standing on neat, well padded feet, straight hocks, inclined to pace but the long grass did not help!

Junior (2 entries) 1. Romeo-Dieste’s Hopevalley Morning Rainbow JW. Classic outline on this young bitch, she has a lovely, well chiselled head with correct dentition, level topline, short couplings, straight, sound limbs viewed from any angle and really impressed on the move to take the class and later BOB. 2. Hammersley’s Steelriver Country Garden, Masculine youngster with a most attractive coat to whom many similar remarks apply, tending to slope in topline at times when standing but liked him a lot.

Post Graduate (2 entries) 1. Hammersley’s Steelriver Country Garden 2nd in J. 2. Powell’s Bonnyhillbrae Love of Joy JW. Finer bitch, moved quite wide in front and tends to bow her legs, would like better feet, level topline, well bent stifles, showed well with a constantly wagging tail.

Open (1 entry) 1. Hammersley’s Castlerock Magical Shadow for Nellspeace JW Handsome 3 year old with a deep chest, good bone and feet, slightly longer cast and coat a bit wavier than I would like, moved straight and true.

Spaniels (Clumber)

Puppy and Postgraduate (0 entries)

Open (1 entry) 1. Charlesworth Ironside’s Tavirosh Stonewall. 3 year old male who is well made all through, perhaps a little more colour on face than desirable but he has a pleasant expression, correct dentition, good bone, not overdone in any way and he moved soundly and purposefully. BOB

Spaniels (Cocker)

Puppy (7 entries, 3 abs) Difficult class to judge with a real mixture of types and some babies not wanting to co-operate! My personal preference is for what I consider a classic shape, square in outline and happy on the move and my winner 1. Brothwell and Bayliss’ Wilanorah Daiquiri came closest to meeting these criteria BP. 2. Moulin’s Jablevla Rivva of Stars at Majikcharms liver roan p. with slightly less angulation than winner, handler needs to ensure she doesn’t stand so wide in front. 3. Marris-Bray’s Helenwood Mosaic.

Junior (2 entries) 1. Pretty’s Joaldy Best Mate. Very nice blue roan male, balanced and square in outline with a strong level topline, straight limbs, well sprung ribs, masculine but not overdone, moved well despite the long grass. 2. Sewell’s Kerriglow Dream Again for Quattrozampe, still a puppy, finer in head with a longer muzzle, still to develop in chest so stood narrower in front, but looked super in profile movement.

Post Graduate (11, 3 abs) A good class but found one cryptorchid. 1. West’s Sheigra Simply a Star JW. Very pretty black bitch exhibiting the lovely merry nature of this breed. Used her tail on the move and stood balanced and square. Well made throughout with just the right amount of angulation and a super reach of neck. 2. Fawcett’s Helenwood Cool Breeze. Blue roan d. of a lovely shape with no exaggerations and nothing to dislike apart from carrying a bit too much weight today. 3. Brothwell’s Wilanorah Soul Sister at Wissant.

Open (10, 2abs) 1. Sewell’s Wintonia Hidden Gem at Quattrozampe Blue roan bitch who had everything I was looking for. Beautiful, chiselled feminine head, super construction all through and moved well on the challenging surface to take BOB. 2. Brothwell’s Wilanorah Candy Pop at Wissant, very nice, of similar type to my winner, just pipped by my winner’s forehand and head, but possesses many similar attributes, pleased to award her RBOB. 3. Moulin’s Majikcharms Star Gazer.

Spaniels (Welsh Springer)

Junior (2, 1 abs) 1. Yacoub’s Laithmoor Red Grenadine. Very nice young male possessing all the essentials and moved beautifully. Straight limbs viewed from every angle, short-coupled, good forehand assembly, neat feet, liked him a lot, RBOB.

Post Graduate (4, 1 abs) 1. Yacoub’s Laithmoor Red Grenadine. 2. Sherlock’s Bodlon Bedazzled at Crimicar reasonably well-made 5 y old b, would have preferred more angulation in front, and didn’t move as well as my winner. 3. Seymour’s Pegasett Star Attraction.

Open (1 entry) 1. Oliver’s Glenbrows Royal Dragon. Really nicely made d. with a most pleasing head and expression, he has the correct arch over his loin, well-bent stifles and he moved stylishly with driving action, pleased to award him BOB
