Camberley & District Canine Society

Thank you so much to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at your show. Cesky and Sealyham Terrier classes are rarely scheduled at Open shows, so it was so nice to put my hands on some different Terrier breeds. As for the Working group, what a day! The entry numbers were OK, but numbers actually attending were rather disappointing. Perhaps it was due to being judged outside, with a very poor weather forecast. I was not looking forward to it myself, but the sun shone and the temperature was fine. The exhibits that did turn up, were ‘out of the top drawer’, with my Group, Puppy Group and Best Veteran going Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show and Reserve Best Veteran in Show, under the world famous and very well respected judge, Liz Cartledge. A special thank you to my two stewards, who were very nice and did an excellent job.

CESKY TERRIER

OPEN (2) Two very nice well-presented Ceskys, very much alike, not surprising when they are litter sisters. 1. Samson’s Shasgav Sound of Silence ShCM ShCEx. This one just had the edge, when assessing them more closely. She had an extra bit of showmanship and style. I preferred her ear carriage and tail set to her sister. She also had more muscle and moved best. BEST OF BREED. 2. Samson’s Shasgav my Immortal. Both were well balanced, having the correct relatively long head, correct shaped eyes, elegant necks, well made bodies, good top line and tail set. Correct coat and colour, good hindquarters and moved well. But the first one moved with more propulsion. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

SEALYHAM TERRIER

JUNIOR (1) 1. Devonshire’s Kenaiteen Cascade. Although 15 months old, appeared rather immature. Correct skull, slightly domed, nice ears, set well. Eyes gave a good expression. Nicely bodied, of correct length. The coat will improve with maturity, she had the correct hard and wiry texture. Moved well.

POST GRADUATE (3) Mother and daughter. Both nice examples of the breed. 1. Trezise-Dundas’ Firstwish Ara. A very nice bitch of good type. Good head with slightly dome skull, wide between the ears. Slightly rounded ears at tip, carried at the side of cheeks. Nice outline, good body, well bent stifles and good tail set. Correct coat with long, hard, wiry topcoat and weather-resistant undercoat. BEST OF BREED. 2. Trezise-Dundas’ Cibach Carys at Firstwish. 8 years old and very good for her age. Super feminine head of good proportions. Her mouth was fine with a good scissor bite. Nicely constructed, with good length of back. Moved very well with drive, for her age.

OPEN (2) 1. Trezise-Dundas’ Cibach Cheeky Chops at Firstwish. Good head, strong, straight forequarters allowing for chest to be well let down. Well bodied, slightly longer cast, with deep muscular thighs and well bent stifles. Moved extremely well with plenty of drive. RESERVE BEST OF BREED. 2. Trezise-Dundas’ Firstwish Blossom Hill. Very pretty head of correct type and proportion. Keen eyes. Good strong top line and well bodied. Excellent coat texture and condition. Not the movement of the first one.

ROTTWEILER

JUNIOR (3) Two extremely nice puppies. 1. Wheaton’s Ausries the Real Thing for Acinonyx. This dog really filled the picture for me. Well-handled and balanced, showing a lovely outline. Super well proportioned head with broad skull. Nice almond shaped, dark eyes. Good length of neck, super chest for age, roomy, broad and deep. Well bodied and muscled, producing movement with good stride, powerful hind thrust, powerful and unrestricted. Nice round, compact feet. Clearly defined markings. BEST PUPPY & BEST OF BREED. 2. Allen’s Jodipas Just in Time. Another very nice puppy, with similar attributes. Just preferred the first placed head and front. Nicely bodied, with very good hindquarters.

POST GRADUATE (1) 1. Harwood’s Wolfbass Mumma Cita at Kimian. A nice maturing bitch. Broad skull, with skin wrinkled when attentive. Presented in excellent condition with a very shiny coat. Well balanced with everything in proportion. Moved very well, with good stride and hind thrust. Good distinctive markings. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

OPEN (2) 1. Harwood’s Wolfbass Koala at Kimian. What a super temperament, she just loves you to death! Correct head, good body, well-muscled, in particular her hindquarters. Correct markings, but not so defined. She moved OK, but rather one-sided because she wanted to get to her kennel mate.

DOBERMANN

OPEN (2) Both very nice examples of the breed. 1. Lock’s Jojavik Indian Pacific ShCM. This handler and dog just had that extra something which made them unbeatable on the day, such showmen, going through to BEST IN SHOW with ease. Dog presented to perfection by handler and exhibitor. Producing a remarkable profile, not surprising when I saw the breeders. Well proportioned head, with flat skull and slight stop. Super fore chest and forequarters. Very good top line and well-muscled hindquarters. Very powerful mover with reach from the front and drive from the rear. Very good defined markings and good well arched, compact, cat-like feet. BEST OF BREED. 2. Groves & Lafford’s Lateagain Satisfaction JW. Another nice Dobermann, with many of the attributes of my first placed. Correct head, super body and moved well. Losing out on not having that extra something between first and second. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

SIBERIAN HUSKY

JUNIOR (2) 1. Simms’ Over the Rainbow des Sarmentins (IMP FR). Still a puppy, but quite mature. Lovely, well proportioned, foxy-like head. Correct eyes for breed and very nice triangular ears set high on his head, relatively close together. Clearly defined stop. Lovely bone for his age, producing a good body with excellent double coat. Well-muscled. Moved well when settled. BEST PUPPY & BEST OF BREED. 2. Crowther’s Kobuk Foxtail Lily. Seemed a different type, not really enjoying her day. Very striking, attractive colour and markings. Appeared longer in body and head to the first place. Very feminine and not so well muscled. Not really happy and not showing herself off to her best. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED WORKING

YEARLING (4) 1. Norton & Thomas’ Russian Black Terrier, Kalaslane Judge Judy at Carantana (IKC). Head OK, with oval, dark eyes and high set, triangular, pendant ears. Well bodied and boned. Good depth of chest. High withers, level top line. Good hindquarters with well-muscled thighs and well bent stifles. Moved straight, covering the ground. BEST A.V.N.S.C.WORKING. 2. Pocock’s Harlequin Great Dane, Tamzdane Cinndoughrella. Looked lovely in profile. Super head, with length of muzzle longer than point between eyes to back of occiput. Good length of neck, well arched. Presented in lovely condition and well boned, for such a large dog. Good turn of stifle and hocks set low. Very nice cat-like feet, with toes well arched. I would have preferred different movement, which affected her placing. RESERVE BEST A.V.N.S.C. WORKING.

POST GRADUATE (5) 1. Pocock’s Great Dane, Tamzdane Cinndoughrella. As above. LIMIT (4) 1. Pocock’s Great Dane, Tamzdane Cinndoughrella. As above. 2. Norton & Thomas’ Russian Black Terrier, Aveyrew Hot Gossip at Carantana. Good head proportions, but I would have preferred a different scissor bite and a longer neck. Presented in good condition, with a nice textured, fairly soft coat of correct colour. Good topline. Muscled, well developed thighs. Stifles well bent and hocks set low. Moved OK, but a little close behind.

OPEN (2) 1. Pocock’s Great Dane, Tamzdane Cinndoughrella. As above.

ANY VARIETY SPECIAL VETERAN 7-10 YEARS (3) 1. Wheeler’s Boxer, Clarricks Bailey Ray at Hipkins ShCM. A very good example of the breed, who went on to be RESERVE BEST VETERAN IN SHOW. Excellent head proportions, very well balanced. Slightly arched skull, distinct stop and deep broad muzzle. Nice eyes, super ears set wide apart on highest part of the skull, falling correctly. Good undershot mouth, with square bite and correct six teeth in a straight line in lower jaw. Excellent fore chest for an older bitch. Well boned forelegs, straight and parallel. Correct body. Good hind angulation, nicely muscled. Very nice tight feet, with well arched toes. Moved very well. 2. Crowther’s Siberian Husky, Kobuk Midnight Stargazer ShCM VW. Two different types of Siberian Husky’s. Good foxy head with excellent ear placement, close together. Clearly defined stop, giving the appearance of a longer muzzle. Longer in body and just enough condition to complete the picture. Well bent stifles, giving correct movement. 3. Simm’s Siberian Husky, Multi Ch Hernando of Settlers Bay at Arcticskies JW ShCM (IMP FR). A very worthy champion.
