Stourbridge and District Canine Society Open Show

Thank you to the committee for the kind invitation to judge at this well-run show, and also to the sporting exhibitors who turned out at this festive time of year. Your sportsmanship and good humour was much appreciated.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Puppy (2, 0)

1st) Firth’s Keycav Arthur Miller, almost 10 month old blen dog and a really super shape and size. Beautiful head, with large dark eyes and well set ears, excellent pigmentation and dentition. Good forehand, correct depth to chest & level topline, well ribbed back and tail carried perfectly. A really lovely, promising and sound puppy who projected himself well standing & moving; being true fore and aft and elegant in profile. BPIB and RBOB. Should have a good future if he continues in this vein.

2nd) Hawkins’ Pendralier Elise, a couple of months older than the winner, this blen bitch is less mature as yet. I liked her head and eye, though it can yet finish and maturity will sit well with her. Enough neck and reasonably well laid shoulders, good topline and carried herself well on the move; though she can yet firm up on the away and back. Well-handled and presented.

Junior (2, 1)

1st)

Hawkins’ Pendralier Phenomenal, almost a year old blen dog & a good make and shape all through, elegant but with substance. Fabulous head and eye, though mouth to finish as yet. Good neck and forehand, level topline and tail well set and carried correctly. A sound mover away and back, perfectly prepared and handled.

Open (1, 0)

1st) Bubb’s Wandris Evanly Legacy JW, 2 years the day after the show & just what I would be aiming to breed. Excellent head and eye, well cushioned all through, and a beautiful melting expression coming from his lovely dark eyes. Perfect for size and balance, so good to go over & so very typical. Moves with a good easy stride, driving away with accuracy and neatness and returning true in front. Loved him from all angles and he is, I feel, a dog that should carry a crown. BOB.

Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

Junior (5, 0)

1st) Hill’s Sansuchi Get Ready Teddy Go, almost 12 months & a good make and shape; correct head and eyes and beautiful ears, good shoulder and return of upperarm, firm topline and neat in underline, sickle tail well set & correctly carried once he gained in confidence. A little reluctant on the floor but once he got going he knew what he was about and displayed what he had – soundness and sauciness! BOB and BPIB. A sweetie!

Chinese Crested

Puppy (2, 1)

1st) Lane’s Konishiki Querkus Petraea, beautiful hairless of just over 6 months, such a glorious head and eye, fabulous expression and beautiful ears. Loved her to go over, so well made and each part flowing gently into the next. A really promising young miss & once she got going on the floor, she really showed what she was made of. So sound and accurate. I have judged her kennelmate before and I liked her very much, but this bitch took my eye today and I was delighted to award her BOB & BPIB.

Open (2, 1)

1st) Lane’s Transylvania Sasima at Konishiki (FCI), one I have judged before and I loved her then and still do, now 18 months this hairless bitch is coming in to her own. Such a beautiful bitch, correct head and eye, firm topline and good ribbing. She stands on good legs and feet, and moves with good drive and reach. Pipped to the post by her kennelmate today, but a beautiful girl; presented and handled to perfection.

Havanese

Puppy (2, 1)

1st) Grocock’s Havalag Ereshkilgal, 6 month old bitch and a really typical girl. Liked her head and eye proportions, good neck and shoulder with return of upper arm and neat fitting elbows. Firm topline and neat underline, though can body up as yet. Tail set and carried well, and when she kept all four feet on the ground showed she was sound with a driving action away and returning with ease and reach in front. Even at her age, her presentation needs attention & this will peg her back. BOB & BPIB.

Japanese Chin

Open (2, 1)

1st) Paradise’s Shardlow Knickerbocka Glory, lovely b/w bitch and when her owner said she was 7 I had to do a double take, she could be less than half that age! Beautiful head and eye, with that correct look of astonishment; she is a princess and knows it! Lovely to go over and so well made all through, perfect coat condition & stands on beautiful legs and feet. A sound, accurate and typical mover I was delighted to award her BOB. She stood alone, but I suspect she would be victorious in the best of company!

Pomeranian

Puppy (2, 1)

1st) Cawthera-Purdy’s Lireva’s The Power And Glory, fabulous puppy dog of 11 months; so correct for his age and such a beautiful eye and expression, ‘foxy’ and full of self-assuredness. So lovely to go over, well muscled and bodied, perfect ribbing and topline, beautiful tail in both set and carriage, loved him all through & he is sound, accurate and such a true mover. Playful in attitude, there was something in him today that I just loved. Prepared in a super coats, of correct texture. I loved him, BPIB, RBOB, PG1 and RBPIS. Well done!

Post Graduate (4, 1)

1st) Cawthera-Purdy’s Lireva’s Glorious, she is! A really beautiful bitch & lovely make and shape, full of herself on the table and the floor, a delight to judge and a treat to go over. Her expression and eyes are divine, her ears beautiful & her pigment delightful. So correct and in the most beautiful condition all through, well-muscled and this shows in her free, easy movement. I have admired her before and today admired her again, a little between coats and so I fell for the charms of her brother, but what a gorgeous pair!

Open (1, 0)

1st) Cawthera-Purdy’s Lireva’s Quadrophenia, beautiful bitch of 18 months; mature and capable of troubling the best. Exquisite in head and eye, dark and so well placed, beautiful ears set well and lending themselves so well to aid her expression. Excellent forehand and chest, well bodied and muscled all through; firm topline and tail set and carried well. Liked her very much on the move, elegant and free; with precision and a touch of glamour. Presented in beautiful coats of correct texture and masterfully handled. BOB and well deserved.

Pug

Puppy (4, 2)

1st) Hunt’s Afterglow Thursday’s Child at Carpaccio, 10 month old fawn bitch & so very full of herself. Excellent head and eye, moderate all through and good open features, ears of good size and a beautiful expression. Good shoulder placement and lovely depth and with to chest, well ribbed and cobby all through, tail well set & good curl; sound and accurate on the move and showed with a little extra panache that gave her the edge on the day. Very stylish & classy, delighted to award her BOB and BPIB.

2nd) Mopszawawa’s Loveable Rouge, 2 months younger than the winner & can mature on a little as yet, smaller than the winner & lacking in substance so as to be ‘cobby’. She is a lovely mover, sound with good drive and reach & carries herself well in profile. Well handled and prepared.

Post Graduate (7, 3)

1st) Rutherford’s Potbelli Jack Jones, a super shape and type to this 18 month old dog; excellent head and eye, well made and cobby all through, eyecatching when standing and moving for his type and quality, expressive in head and eye, sound and prescise on the move and perfectly handled. My eye was drawn to him all the time, and I am sure with maturity will trouble the best. A lovely chap.

2nd) Edwards’ Cordon Von Termel Mopsco (Imp MNE), a different type to the winner this dog also had much to commend him. He is well made, has a good head and eye with moderate and open features, excellent forehand and topline, well made all through & boasted good muscle, particularly through his quarters. A little larger than the winner in stature and this told against him today, to my eye.

3rd) Rutherford’s Snugglepug Anzu at Potbelli

Open (4, 1)

1st) Rutherford’s Yorlanders Topaz at Potbelli JW, beautiful fellow with much to attract and draw the eye. Liked his head and eye, good features and his body was well made and robust, well ribbed back and firm topline, tail set well with correct curl, moved with typical accuracy and roll; I felt in the final run off he didn’t go quite so well as the youngster but I admired him a lot.

2nd) Edwards’ Rhodenash Livin A Dream, this bitch was close up & from memory I have done her well before. Initially and on first look I thought she would be my winner and there is much to like. I felt today perhaps not making the most of herself on the move or standing and tending to bunch herself up & so not quite project herself or her topline as she can do. A beautiful bitch that will have better days.

Papillon

Puppy (1, 0)

1st) Brunsdon’s Ookimmi Oops A Daisy at Havenbar, r/s/w bitch and very elegant all through, just 8 months & coming together beautifully. Good expression and eyes, large ears with good fringing coming, enough chest & well ribbed. Firm topline, tail set and carried beautifully, she moved with good accuracy and is an exiting prospect. BPIB & RBOB.

Post Graduate (2, 1)

1st) Langdon’s Skyvana X Factor, lovely b/w bitch of 18 months; typey and typical she is very dainty in her outlook. Lovely head and eye, good neck and shoulder, enough body & firm topline and well muscled all through. Standing on good legs and feet, she went with accuracy and style. Made her handler work, but she did a good job & I was delighted to award this smart bitch BOB.
