Coventry & District Gundog Society

Thanks must first go to the committee of Coventry Gundog for the kind invitation to judge Italian Spinoni and Bracci two breeds very close to my heart at their excellent show I was delighted to accept the invitation and I feel honoured to be asked. Secondly huge thank you to the exhibitors for entering their dogs under me and accepting my decisions in a sporting manner, any entry is always humbling for me and I appreciate the entries.

Junior (3 Entries 2 Abs )

1st Bevan & Thompson’s Stowledge Grazia 12-month-old white and orange bitch just out of puppy, and on the higher end of the standard for height, she is well angulated front and rear which allowed her to excel in movement, putting in a very confident performance for one so young on not the easiest of surfaces today. She has excellent oval strong bone, very good harsh coat, thick skin, lovely big feet and was presented in hard condition with good second thigh. She has a fair head, which for me could have been more feminine but she has correct scissor bite good ear set and eyes of good size and shape, just needing to darken a fraction for optimum melting expression, she is still a baby so I have no doubt that will come. An honest bitch that was handled and presented very well.

Postgraduate (2 Entries 1 Abs)

Bevan & Thompson’s Stowledge Portia Two-year-old white and orange bitch, again like the previous class winner from the same kennel, she was shown in hard muscular condition with good second thigh. She has a good depth of chest, good spring of ribs that are well ribbed back with excellent fore chest and pronounced sternum. She has enough angulation front and rear, although she is sound, unfortunately she was a little unsure today and not giving her best, but I liked this little workmanlike bitch and feel on another day she could have easily pushed for top honours.

Open (3 Entries 1 Abs)

1st Macpherson’s Milisimo Corrente Del Rokover Mature 4-year-old white and orange dog, with a masculine lean head of correct proportions with good divergence and a lovely eye of correct colour and shape, very good pronounced sternum, he has a lovely strong conical neck leading into well laid shoulders. He is well off for bone and has lovely big feet, standing square and of a good size he has moderate rear angulation, thick skin and a very harsh coat, which if I was being picky could be tidier to enhance his overall qualities. He was handled and moved very well here. A quality dog through and through and I was pleased to award him BOB today.

2nd, Dewar’s Macarica Harry Rock JW 2-year-old white and orange masculine dog with lean head with pronounced occiput, eye of correct colour and shape, lovely arched neck, pronounced sternum with good strong bone and harsh coat. Slightly longer than square but a quality dog and a lot of the qualities of 1st could also be applied to this boy. Shown in very good condition A bit of an eye for the girls today meant that he did not move as well as I have seen him at previous show appearances, however he did enough to secure him RBOB on this occasion
