Flint & Deeside Canine Society

Flint & Deeside Canine Society Open Show – Maelor Equestrian Centre, Wrexham – 26th August 2019 I must thank the committee for inviting me to judge both Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers at their show. I was very happy with the numerial entries for both breeds however the standard in the Goldens was outstanding. The dogs were judged on what I saw on the day, there were some top quality dogs in both the puppy and post graduate classes and the places given to the first 3 in both could easily change on another day. The venue/enviroment was not suited so some of the exhibits. Golden Retrievers Puppy – 7 Entries (1 Abs) As mentioned in my summary this was a lovely class to judge and I particularly liked the first 3 who could quite easily be given a different coloured prize card on another day. 1st – Husbands Chisleay Chase The Dream A very pretty 7 month old bitch who caught my eye when entering the ring as she is just my cup of tea. She has super movement both front and back and keeps a nice straight topline on the move. She is beautifully balanced, correct length of leg with a nice straight front, good front angulation and good bend of stifle. I noted she has good bone and nice cat-like feet. She was presented in a lovely thick mid-gold coat. Best Puppy 2nd – Ashtons Willowlawn Wyldstyle Another pretty 6 month old puppy bitch who has a lovely outline, excellent length of neck and lay back of shoulders. I liked her flowing movement and she has a good length of stride when moving round the ring. She has a straight topline and a correct tail set and liked how she stood straight both front and rear. She is still growing her coat but has lots of time and I have no doubt she will soon be the finished article. 3rd – Catterall & Jacksons – Golmas Goodness Gracious (AI) Junior – 4 Entries (1 Abs) 1st – Shepherds Parlickview Maggie May A really nice mid gold bitch shown and presented in a beautiful shiny coat. She has a typical Golden head with nice dark eye and pigmentation. She has good angulation both front and back and stands foresquare with little placement. Moves well with drive. 2nd – Scholes Rossgilde Sea Lord William A handsome young dog who has just turned 1 year old earlier in the month. Both handler and dog gave each other a hard time! Never the less he has lots of prospect and is a lovely dog. His movement once settled was really good, he covers the ground with plenty of drive and carries his tail well. I liked his head and expression and he has a nice dark eye and pigmentation. He has a good depth of chest and he is short in coupling with a good bend of stifle. Post Graduate – 13 Entries (4 Abs) 1st – Catterall & Jacksons Golmas Guardsman JW A young dog that I have seen develop over the months since judging him as a minor puppy. He has the most adorable head with a soft but masculine expression, dark eye and pigmentation. He has a good reach of neck and good lay back of shoulder and excellent depth in chest. He has excellent angulation both front and rear and a level topline that is held on the move. I liked his tight feet and his strong pasterns and he has super bone. Today he was shown in tip top condition and I was pleased to award him Best of Breed. 2nd – Williams Cesarka Pin Up Girl JW A beautiful bitch who has a lovely outline with a super level topline and correct tailset. She has good angulations both front and rear and has a good length of neck with layback of shoulders. I liked her pretty head with nice dark eyes and feminine expression. Reserve Best of Breed. Open – 6 Entries (1 absent) 1st – Millingtons Mitcharron Buster Keetwon JW ShCM A masculine dog who has everything in the right place. He has lovely feet with good bone and I noticed he was in good shape with super muscle tone. I liked his straight front and nice lay back of shoulders and noted he had good depth of rib. Carries his tail correctly on the move which is become difficult to find in the breed. 2nd Shepherds Parlickview Maggie May (as before) Labrador Retrievers Puppy – 1 Entry (No Absentees) 1st – Crellins Wahnahnish Get Freaky A very pretty and feminine yellow bitch with a well balanced head and dark eye. She has a good front and rear angulations and has a strong topline both when standing and on the move. Best Puppy Junior – 6 Entries (1 absent & 1 Withdrawn) 1st – Crellins Aalin Carrey Billy Bear A handsome black male with a strong head and masculine expression. Good depth of rib and short in coupling. Moves correctly with plenty of drive. Good turn of stifle and he is well off for bone with good feet. Needs to make sure he does not put on any more weight. 2nd – Smiths Flyenpyg Where Ya Bin A smaller built yellow bitch but with eveything in proportion. She is short coupled with a nice outline which is maintained when stood and on the move. A little fine for my liking but I did still like her. Post Graduate – 7 Entries (1 Absent) This was the class of the day for the Labradors and was really impressed with the 1st and 2nd placing. 1st – Longs Carpenny Pheya I really liked this bitch and was is in outstanding condition. She has a good reach of neck and excellent level topline. Good double coat and despite the venue I couold tell it was still glossy. Strong in bone but not overdone with nice feet. Moves well with plenty of drive. Pleased to award her Best of Breed 2nd – Smiths Flyenpyg Snout Better Another pleasing black lab bitch also in hard condition and similar to the above in many aspects.
