South Of England Gundog Club

South of England Gundog Club, 26th May 2019

Thank you for the invitation to judge at this well run show. Everything ran so smoothly and I was delighted with my winners.

Bracco Italiano

All male dogs here today.

J [3,1a]: 1 BOB, Gatfield’s Heinaaron Tofana Di Rozes [Imp], quality chestnut male with lovely sheen to his coat. Just 13 months, appeals in head with lovely chiselling, correct oval bone, brisket down to elbow, good spring of rib & body properties being almost square. Moved well in a confined space but could really cover ground outside with more room; 2 Bartholomew’s Willfisher Santino for Bartholeys, certainly more cooperative in the show ring; standing steadily & moving coordinately, just needs to fill out all through.

PG [0].

O [2]: 1 RBOB, Bartholomew’s Owlspoint Trouble Shooter for Bartholeys, white & orange, presents a pleasing picture in outline & looks good in side gait. In good condition with tidy feet, lovely head with soft expression, brisket down to elbow, correct angles fore & aft. Preferred the bone & tail carriage of BOB winner; 2 Fisher’s Mantello Di Montericco [Imp], chestnut, appeals for breed type & side movement. Correct body properties & angles. Would like to see him with a little less weight over the shoulders.

Lagotto Romagnolo

SY [3]: A.

O [4,3a]: 1 BOB, McAllister’s Mizani Diorbe Of Slovakia ShCM, o/w in good coat, striking & showy boy, compact & squarely built in appearance, lovely alert & endearing expression, so full of himself. Lovely head & ear, brisket down to elbow, strong over the body, correct topline, so attentive to handler & striding out around the ring. Just fab!

Irish Water Spaniel

SY [1]: A

O [2]: 1 BOB, Hempstead’s Diddymowg Turquoise Storm at Cuvana; male, more cooperative than his kennelmate & in better coat condition. Compact & smart in appearance, lovely alert eye, correct neck & shoulders, good ribs, appeals in outline, well angulated rear quarters; 2 RBOB, Hempstead’s Riverforest Irish Eider at Cuvana, excitable but looked good once settled. Pleasing proportions & angles. Moved well but preferred the even gait of 1.

Junior Handling

[6-11 years] [2,1a]: 1 BJH, Miss Hebe Davies Ratcliff, 11, handling a Hungarian Vizsla, attentive handler, being mindful & caring towards her dog. Performed neat patterns being aware of the judge & moving at the right speed for her charge. Tidy lead, effortless side changes on the down & back – just a lovely competent handler & smartly dressed too. Alone but would stand out in a crowd. Congratulations!

[12-16 years]: 0.

YKC Members’ Stakes

[5, 2a]: 1 Horler’s Hernwood Jack O’Lantern by Rackens, 18 months Gordon Setter, upstanding male - couldn’t resist him. Found him handsome & made his presence felt. I could tell he was quite a handful but handler really got the best out of him with the minimum of fuss. He is certainly very eye-catching. Beautiful head & eye, clean long neck, good body properties & angles, in good coat condition. Moved really well from strong muscled quarters & good rear pasterns; 2 Walker’s Valentisimo’s Tizi, Spanish Water Dog, very well presented & showy, nice feet, correct topline, in good condition. Preferred the style & movement of the Gordon Setter; 3 Davis & Pelling’s Shollamy Wild Flower of Beauport, Labrador Retriever.
