Colchester & District Canine Society

Colchester & DCS Open Show – 22nd December 2019 

Many thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge at this well run show and thank you to the exhibitors for allowing me to judge your lovely dogs.  

Cocker Spaniel 

Junior (4,1ab)

1st Kidd’s Freestone Chances Are, B. What a lovely head this girl has – the kindest of eyes & square finish to muzzle, enough stop and chiselling with nothing overdone. Excellent depth of chest, short in loin and strong quarters. Handled sympathetically. On the move she was balanced with lovely reach & drive. BP

2nd Thorpe  & Harrison’s Harbethol Look Man Of  Magic, D, . Balanced head with parallel planes and a kind expression. Well sprung ribs with good depth. Enough bone and tight feet. Sound moving boy. 

3rd Bamford’s Vanoraking Giddy Grape, D 

 

Post Graduate (4.1ab)

1st Crisp’s Challowdown Loopy Lou With Genavieve, B. Beautiful headed bitch, the softest of expressions. Strong neck leading in to well-placed shoulders, strong quarters which were well muscled, and in turn gave positive movement. Well presented coat 

2nd Hutson’s Stobytill Hippy Hippy Shake JW, B. Lovely bitch with typical head proportions and expressive eye.. Well-sprung ribs and good depth to chest. Good bone, straight front with tight elbows. Just not quite as positive on the move as 1st. 

3rd McGrath &-Wells’s Midnight Masqurade At Glenbrows, D  

 

Open (5,1ab)

1st Cassidy’s Manchela Hugo Boss JW, ShCM, ShEx, D. Masculine dog with a typical quality head, super expression, strong muzzle with square finish. Strong neck of good length, lovely bone, legs and good feet, short loin, correct topline and underline, well angulated hindquarters including width of second thigh, excellent coat  Moved really well covering the ground and keeping his topline throughout and  a non-stop lashing tail.  BOB and very pleased to see him top the gundog group. 

2nd Pilkington & Ellis’s Molkara Faustus At Brimbeck. D. Pleasing head with level planes and a soft expression. Nice outline, good texture to coat and good feet. Moved true and merrily. RBOB

1st Kidd’s Freestone Chances Are, B, (Cocker Spaniel)- Repeat 

2nd Sadler’s Beauty In A Flash, B, (Labrador Ret.), Presents a most pleasing overall picture with a look of balance. She is very feminine but with substance and good depth and strength of body. Moved positively 

3rd Hutchison’s Waverton Illusion, B, (F/C Ret) 

   

Junior (7) 

1st Todd’s Toddrosa Oasis Charm, B, (Golden Ret). Good body and type on this bitch, she is classic in outline.  Correct head and balanced fore and aft, she moved with purpose and drive using her tail to advantage. 

2nd Porter-Manning & Porter’s Wallaroo Hawk Eye JW, D ( Hungarian Vizsla). Not a big dog but masculine. Lovely head with a kind eye. Clean over the neck & shoulders, good legs & feet. Moved steadily and true. 

3rd Sladden’s Elbano Dell ‘Oltresavio At Canemamans (Imp Italy) D (Bracco Italiano) 

 

Post Graduate (19,5ab) 

1st Wilson’s Hameldowntor Music Of The Night (Imp) B. ( F/C Ret) Balanced feminine head with good planes, a soft eye and a expression. Strong neck, pleasing top line, strong coupling, good feet and harsh coat. Moved well, showing good rear drive.  

2nd Maker’s Wynrita Secret Agent At Dreamland, D, (Golden Ret) This boy has a lovely balanced head with the kindest expression. Firm topline & well developed quarters. Moves well showing good rear drive.  

3rd McGrath &-Wells’s Midnight Masqurade At Glenbrows, D 

 

Open ((6,1ab)

1st Phipps Baker & Baker’s Maddouse Top Hat, D, (Golden Ret) What a lovely head this dog has – the kindest of eyes. Beautifully balanced with nothing overdone.  Well laid shoulders and good depth to chest with pronounced pro-sternum.  Shown in great condition. On the move he was balanced and kept his topline and showed  reach & drive.  

2nd Sladen’s Tyrbechgyn Beieve You Will At Canemamans JW, D (Bracco Italiano) Lovely headed dog with correct divergent planes and a big spongy nose. Best of legs and feet that are well boned. Short dense coat . Firm topline with a good tail set. Moved with elastic motion showing reach and drive.  

3rd Well’s Pearlbarn Pot Of Gold, D, (Golden Ret) 

 

AV Gundog Veteran (6,2ab)

1st Pilkington & Ellis’s Molkara Vuvuzela ShCM, B, (Cocker Spaniel). Well made girl  and obviously ‘ fit for function’, pleasing length to height proportions giving the ‘square’ shape required., balanced head with a soft eye and a kind expression, strong neck. Moved true and enthusiastically. 

2nd Pilkington & Ellis’s Molkara Crystal Knight At Brimbeck ShCM , D, (Cocker Spaniel). Pleasing boy but not as clean over the shoulders as 1st. He has good bone, the best of feet and is in good muscle condition. Moved fluidly and merrily using his tail well. 

3rd Pounds-Longhurst’s Brodene Tempestivity To Mossburn, B. (Golden Ret)

1st Sladden’s Khyanne’’s Villette At Canemamans (Imp Hun) B, (Braque D’Auvergne) 

Really taken with this young girl and look forward to see her confidence develop. Lovely head with a kind, soft expression. Well arched neck, deep chest & firm sloping topline. Strong hindquarters and good tight feet. Moved true, but lacked enthusiasm
