Birtley Limit Show

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your limit show and for the hospitality shown. I had a lovely entry of both Hounds and Terriers and wish to thank everyone who supported my entry. There are some fabulous dogs in our region and it was an honour to judge them all. There are some lovely youngsters who I shall be watching out for in the future.

Hounds

Whippet Open 1

1st Potts Ranveli Popsicle at Klondyke

Lovely 7½ month old bitch who stood alone in her class but caught my eye. She has a lovely gentle demeanour with fabulous dark oval eyes and a nice head leading into a long elegant neck. Construction in front is just as it should be and leads into a good spacious rib cage. Slight rise over loin with great muscle definition for her young age. Presented in excellent condition and was happy to award her with puppy group1 and see she went on to be awarded RBPIS.

Mini S/H Daschund 4 (1 withdrawn as ineligible)

1st Bell’s Tolberg Jelly tot

6 month old black and tan who shows great promise. Good head with lovely dark eyes and well set ears in proportion to the head. She has a good length of neck and correct shoulders, well pronounced breast bone and good ribbing. Held the top-line well on the move and powered well from the rear, PG2.

2nd Upton’s Denval Tantalize

1 year old shaded red bitch. Good length of neck with slight arch, moderate length of body with pleasing ribbing. Held top-line well on the move.

3rd Mason’s Teckletown You’re the One

1st Bell’s Tolberg Amber Alert

2 ½ year old shaded red bitch who was presented in immaculate condition. Pleasing head with dark almond shaped eye. Good front assembly and correct length of body. Held top-line well and powered from the rear, G2.

2nd Mason’s Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckletown

Very close between my first and second place in this class and having now seen that these are litter mates I understand why. Presented very well and handled nicely. As above, correct in assembly with good ribbing and a level top-line, just out moved by my first-place winner today. I’ve no doubt that these two will swap places frequently.

1st Casentieri’s Lambada Mysterious Talisman

Red and white 2½ year old bitch. Spritely girl who certainly showed her handler an independent side today. Fine boned with nice long leg, good shaped head with nice wrinkling and well-set ears. Deep ribcage with well defined waist. Strong rear with good drive from the rear once she settled on the move, G3.

2nd Casentieri’s Itury Puzzle Adelina Urfina

Tri coloured bitch with many of the same qualities of first place. Fine boned girl who had a nice alert expression, visible wrinkles and a lovely crest of neck, deep chest with a pleasing outline. Close decision between the two however felt she lacked a little of the drive of class winner.

Basset Hound 2 (1)

1st Williams’ Bonny Basset to Darn Hot

Well balanced red and white youngster. Correct shape in head with nice lozenge shaped eye and well set ears. Long, deep body with good amount of ground clearance. Well let down hocks with good reach and drive on the move, PG3.

1st Constantine’s Kaleginy Steelbrig (deerhound)

2½ year old bitch presented in excellent condition. Good head with flat skull and nice strong neck. Well laid shoulders and good straight fore legs. Deep chest with a good arch to the loin. Covered the ring well and had lovely reach and drive. Fit for function and effortless on the move, G1.

2nd Taylor’s Amarillo Rose (Irish Wolfhound)

1½ year old bitch with kind and gentle expression. Correct head with nice dark eye and ears which she carried well. Well-muscled neck with good sloping shoulders, nice arch over the loin and a good tuck up on the waist. Presented in good overall condition just felt that she needs a little more time to mature into her frame and tighten up a little on the move.

1st Bell’s Tolbery Liquorice Torpedo (Min. S/H Dach)

6 month black and tan male. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good front assembly with nice ribbing. Sound mover who held his top-line well. Moved out true with good drive from the rear.

1st Drady’s Jumanda’s Silver Sparkle at Indiko ShCM (Min L/H Dach)

8 year old dapple bitch with a lovely correct head. Good almond eye giving a lovely expression. Good length of neck and shoulder placement. Correct ribbing with nice length of back and a slight rise over the loin. Tail well set on and carried nicely on the move. Showed good drive and held top-line well for her age.

2nd Upton’s Lustrum Buttons ‘N’ Bows at Denval (Min S/H Dach)

Another nice veteran Daschund. Shaded red 7 year old with nice feminine head, good neck and ribbing. Presented in good condition however just lacked a little of the drive compared to the class winner.

Terriers

Border Terrier Junior 2 (1)

1st Dixon’s Otterpaws Red Red Wine

9½ month old grizzle and tan bitch in excellent condition. Fit for purpose with good depth of rib and easy to span. Good typey face with compact ears outlining the head well. Moved well with good reach. BPIB PGP2

Border Terrier Post Graduate 4 (1)

1st Lorraines Otterpaws Take it Easy with Raleniro JW

1½ year old light grizzle bitch who had a very pleasing typical head, eyes well set and dark giving a keen look at all times. Nice length of neck and good ribbing. Easy to span, nice straight legs with compact feet. Well set on tail carried correctly on the move. Presented in excellent muscled condition, moved true and sound, BOB & G3.

2nd Dixon’s Otterpaws Lyin Eyes JW

There really wasn’t a lot to separate my first and second place in this class and now that I see they are litter mates, I can see why. Grizzle and tan bitch with a lovely expression and correct head. Nice scissor bite and a good pelt. Correct lay of shoulder and a nice spannable chest. Moved well, just preferred the rear movement on class winner. I am sure these two will swap places regularly.

1st Dixons Otterpaws Firebird ShCM

4½ year old grizzle and tan bitch with a nice otter head and expressive eyes. Good shoulder placement, nice straight front legs and a good rear. Good rib and spannable. Not sporting her best jacket today but moved effortlessly around the ring with her handler.

2nd Lorraine & Thomas’ Raleniro Second Time Around ShCM ShCEX

5½ year old grizzle male in good condition, typical otter-shaped head with well placed ears. Heavier in bone to 1st place and a little less angulation to the rear however still moved well around the ring holding top-line and tail well.

3rd Dixon’s Foxcraig Magic Diamond

18 month old bitch with many endearing features. Lovely head with a deep broad skull in keeping with her size. Good round eye with nice half pricked ears. Lovely strong jaw. Short neck leading into well laid back shoulders and deep brisket. Presented in excellent condition.

2nd Hammond & Moody’s Rachamo All Guns Blazing

6 month old male who shows great attention to his handler. Good sized head with good cheek and eyes complementing his coat colour. Muscular chest filling out nicely given his young age. Holds a good top-line and moved well with his handler. Little loose in rear at the moment but has plenty of time to develop, BPIB & PG1.

1st Nicholson’s Northstaff Poster Boy

2½ year old male who was shown in very hard condition. Very pleasing head with lovely dark round eye and ears setting the broad head off very well. Short, muscular neck leading into a wide, well boned front. Well laid back shoulders with good spring of rib and sound top-line. Hocks well let down and good drive from the rear, BOB & G2.

2nd Hall’s Geordiestaff Canny Laddie JW

7½ year old male who was in very good condition for his age. Slightly smaller than 1st but still very correct. Nice head and short broad skull with good eye. Short muscular neck with good shoulder placement and a slight turn out of feet. Nicely sprung ribs with wide front and deep brisket. Moved out well for his age.

1 year old bitch with lovely bright expression. Compact and strong with a pleasing head. Lovely hard wirey coat with a nice ruff setting off her head. Good long ribcage with level top-line. Lovely compact cat like feet. Moved well around the ring with nice straight movement and a good flex, BOB & G4.

1st Dodds’ Bireslaw Stand with me

Male dog in good coat and condition. Typical head with nice erect ears. Good slope to shoulder with level back. Double coat with correct harsh outer and soft undercoat. Moved well with good reach and drive, BOB.

Scottish Terrier Open 1

1st Dodds’ Highland Butterfly

6 year old bitch with a correct head. Pleasing in shape and good length. Good depth of chest with a sound top-line, BOB.

Wire Fox Terrier Open 1

1st Griffiths Brocolitia Point of Fire ShCM ShCEX

Stood alone in his class but what an outstanding young male. Alert, active, free flowing in movement and looked like a showman from the get-go. Very typical head and skull with fabulous dark eye and neat ears. Lovely clean neck with good sloping shoulders. Well sprung ribs with level top-line. Straight in movement with great drive from the rear, BOB G1 & RBIS.
