Ripon & DCS Open Show – Sunday 2nd June 2019 – Judge Caroline Friend-Rees (Amical)

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee of Ripon & District Canine Society for asking me to judge at their Open show held at Ripon Racecourse. It was an extremely well run show with lovely big outdoor rings and super friendly atmosphere all day.

Best in Show  P & B Paterson’s Ambiesque Applaud. Beautiful 2 year old Standard Wire Dachshund bitch with a lovely feminine head, dark almond shaped eyes and well set ears. Long muscular clean neck flowing into sloping shoulders and excellent front assembly. Level topline and well ribbed. Broad, strong hindquarters balanced angulation and moving with excellent free flowing long strides. Could not deny her group 1 and Best in Show. 

Reserve Best in Show – Andrea & David Howarth & Mrs J Looker’s Kells Hot Tempest 2 year old Irish Terrier bitch with a lovely head of good length, and keen expression. Clean neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, firm topline and strong muscular hindquarters. She shone in the Main Ring looking just so ultra smart and taking Reserve Best in Show in excellent company. 

Best Puppy in Show – Mr SA McPherson’s Brumberhill Backatcha, Top quality 10 month old male who I am sure has a great future ahead of him. Loved everything about this stylish puppy from his typical otter head to his well set and carried tail. His outline cleanly shows his ideal size and shape with moderate length of neck, firm topline, deep chest down to elbow and ribs carried well back. A pleasure to award him Best Puppy in Show. 

Reserve Best Puppy in Show – Mrs Jan Mance’s Blitzstan Teller of Tails with Ryeman, 8 month old eye catching male Schipperke. Beautiful masculine head with dark oval eyes and erect ears. Strong neck into sloping shoulders, deep chest and short strong back. Such a quality cobby little guy with a beautiful expression. Could not deny him Reserve Best Puppy in Show. 

Best Veteran in Show  Mr Geoff & Mrs Jo Cunliffe Sh Ch/Ir Ch Calvdale My Girl of Fallenleaf , Quality 9 year old English Springer Spaniel bitch who’s movement takes your breath away. Super type. Strong yet still feminine, excellent head and expression. Neck of good length into sloping well laid shoulders, deep well developed chest and close fitting elbows. Firm topline and balanced angulation. 

A/V Import Register Open, 1st P Wyer’s Melisent Du Sentier Des Caillottes (imp fra) Shcex, Well constructed Griffon Fauve De Bretagne male of good size and shape. Lovely masculine head with good expression and neck of correct length into well placed shoulders and firm topline. 2nd Edward Wisniewski & Stuart Smith’s Xipilli Element of Desire for Bondor Shcm (imp swe) Muscular Black Mexican Hairless Standard Male of excellent breed type. Well proportioned male with lovely clean outline and level topine. Graceful, balanced free movement. 3rd Phil Mason’s Watereatons Eldriel. Korthals Griffon. 

Whippet - Post Graduate - 1stMrs DM Winup & LD Paipala’s Rogansrock Lucky Charm 2 ½ year old brindle bitch with a pretty head of good proportions and dark oval eyes.Well arched neck, deep chest and definite tuck up. 2ndChristopher Driver’s Harropine Cordella, 2 year old bitch with dark oval eyes, correct mouth and long arched neck. Body all in proportion but preferred the front assembly of 1. Open 1st & Best of BredMrs DM Winup & LD Paipala’s Wakebarrow Weeping Willow Cum Rogansrock 4 year bitch with excellent sound movement. Lovely head and expression with dark oval eyes and correct ear placement. Long arched neck into good front assembly, deep chest and well ribbed. 

Beagle Open 1st & Best of Breed, Prof S & Mrs H Eldabe’s Davricard Belladonna for Rosamax, Feminine bitch of good size and shape. Slightly arched neck into well laid back shoulders and level topline. Balanced angulation and sound movement with long reaching strides. 

Deerhound Yearling, 1st Mrs A Morton, Mr J Morgan & Mrs K Constantine’s Cotherstone Flint and Steel, young impressive male with a masculine head, dark eyes and high set ears. Good front assembly and balanced angulation with powerful hindquarters. Moving with easy long strides. Post Graduate 1st Mrs K Constantine’s Kaleginy Steelbrig Quality bitch with well made head.Very strong neck, deep chest and well arched loin. Strong hindquarters and sound easy movement. 2ndMrs K Constantine’s Cotherstone Serenade, Ultra feminine bitch with lovely head and soft expression, Good length of neck and firm topline. Just preferred the proportions of 1. Open 1st & Best of Breed, Mrs K Constantine’s Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy Shcm, Beautiful well balanced bitch. She is screams breed type and strength yet still feminine. Well made and good clean outline. Her movement takes your breath away. Could not deny her Best of Breed and also 1st in A/V Hound Veteran. 

A/V NSC Hound Puppy 1st & Best Puppy AV NSC Sue Walker’s Orange Fizz of Swala Pala (Imp Fra), 9 month old Basenji bitch with flat, well chiselled head, dark almond eyes and pointed, slightly hooded ears. Strong clean neck and short level back. Tail could be tighter . Open 1st & Best AV NSC Cheryl & Thomas Casentieri’s Adebanki’s King Kole(Imp Rus) Basenji , Quality well balanced male, Dark almond shaped eyes, flat skull and slight wrinkle. Strong neck of good length, level topline and strong hindquarters. Tail set high and good shelf. 2ndMargaret Pocklington-Hall’s Merlin Do Casal Dos Choupos (imp Por) 2 year old Basset Fauve De Bretagne with a lovely head and expression. Good front assembly, deep chest and balanced hindquarters. Shown in good coat and condition. 3rd Cheryl & Thomas Casentieri’s Lambada Mysterious Talisman(Imp Blr) Basenji . 

Hound Group

Group 3 Cheryl & Thomas Casentieri’s Adebanki’s King Kole(Imp Rus) Basenji , Quality well balanced male, Dark almond shaped eyes, flat skull and slight wrinkle. Strong neck of good length, level topline and strong hindquarters. Puppy Group 1 Mr & Mrs Hall’s Msingi All About Me of Cynami 7 month old bitch with lovely feminine head yet still good bone and strength throughout. Firm topline, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Strong well muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle and compact feet.        Puppy Group 2 Yvonne Pearson’s Armardio I’m on Fire 11month old strong Bassett Hound who is just so well made with excellent bone and substance. Beautiful head, balanced angulation, firm topline and smooth, powerful effortless movement.                                                                          Puppy Group 3 Sue Walker’s Orange Fizz of Swala Pala (Imp Fra), 9 month old Basenji bitch ), 9 month old Basenji bitch with flat, well chiselled head, dark almond eyes and pointed, slightly hooded ears. Strong clean neck and short level back.

Smooth effortless mover. 2nd Mrs Joy Robinson’s Bushoby The Architect Basset Hound with well proportioned head but with excessive wrinkle. Excellent bone, deep chest and well sprung ribs.                                                 Veteran 1stMrs K Constantine’s Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy Shcm, Beautiful well balanced bitch. She is screams breed type and strength yet still feminine. Well made and good clean outline. Her movement takes your breath away. 2nd Adele Conroy’s Donskoi Nochka of Enolam, Quality feminine Borzoi bitch with lovely balanced outline. Good reach of neck and firm topline. Shown in excellent coat and condition. 

AV NSC Utility Puppy 1st, Best Puppy AV NSC & Best AV NSC Mrs Jan Mance’s Blitzstan Teller of Tails with Ryeman, 8 month old eye catching male Schipperke. Lovely head and expression with dark almond shaped eyes, scissor bite and well defined chin. Good reach of neck into well made front assembly. Short, strong back with deep chest and well sprung ribs. Lovely head and expression with dark medium size eyes. Strong neck and well laid shoulders. Level topline and well muscled hindquarters. Lovely free jaunty movement Group 4 Mrs D Serginson & Mr I Serginson’s Ch Glamglows Bowl Me Over at Midaras , Japanese Spitz Excellent moving male of good size and shape. Well proportioned head , neck of good length into well angulation front assembly. Level topline and well set tail.

Moving well.                                                                      Puppy Group 3 Mr T Greathead & Mrs L Shearman’s Glockens Raise The Stakes , Miniature Schnauzer, Smart 9 month old male with well proportioned head. Strong slightly arched neck and well laid shoulders and firm topline. Moving with excellent reach and drive.                                  Puppy Group 4 Rebecca Hanley’s Sergeant Sapphire, 10 month old male French Bulldog with good bone. Moderate neck, good body shape and moving well.
