Chelmsford & District Canine Society

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge at this show. I was delighted with the quality in depth of both breeds I judged today. A large outside ring gave plenty of room to be able to assess movement. Thank you to all exhibitors for your entry and the sporting way in which my decisions were accepted.

Cocker Spaniels

Puppy (4, 1)

1st Clarke’s Harbethol Look Magic Melody. 8 month. Super square outline. Good head proportions and well chiselled under the eyes. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder with equal length of upper arm. Good rib. Short loin. Well made hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved with drive and correct tail action. BP

2nd Clifford’s Wyncastle’s Danish Affer of Chamsford (imp) 6 month. Square outline. Good head with soft expression. Well ribbed back with short. Moderate bend of stifle. Not quite finish of winner but very promising. Tail carriage a little high on the move.

3rd Thorpe & Harrison’s Harbethol Look Man of Magic for Archby

Yearling (3, 1)

1st Hutson’s Stobytill Hippy Hippy Shake JW. Cracking youngster. Excellent outline. Super head with soft expression and good chiselling beneath the eyes. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good depth and width of chest. Big ribcage going well back. Short loin. Well muscled hindquarters with good width of second thigh and hocks short and square to the ground. Excellent bone and feet. Moved with accuracy both fore and aft and displayed good open side gait when viewed in profile. BOB and delighted to watch her gain 2nd place in a good Gundog group.

2nd Whitham’s Affifa Cassini. Good outline. Not the head of winner in that I would like more a little more strength to muzzle. Clean neck. Well laid shoulder. Big ribcage. Well made hindquarters. Moved well with drive

Post Grad (3)

1st Clifford’s Serci After Dark At Shadow Amor of Chamford (imp). 2 year. Well balanced square outline. Pleasing head but would prefer little more length of muzzle. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and return of upper arm Big ribcage and strong loin. Well made hindquarters. Good tailset. Moved well with drive.

2nd Whitham’s Arrifana Ulysses. Well made. Not quite the outline of winner. Good head proportions. Correct shoulder and upper arm. Big rib. Well made hindquarters. Felt winner was more positive in rear action.

3rd Clarke’s Harbethol Look Chorus Girl

1st Hutson’s Stobybill Shake Your Booty. 4 year old bitch. Good outline. True head with soft expression and well chiselled beneath the eyes.. Clean neck leading to excellent forehand angulation. Good depth of chest with correct ribcage. Well made hindquarters. Excellent movement with correct tail action. RBOB

2nd Pilkington & Ellis’ Molkara Faustus at Brimbeck. Up to size and well made all through. Good head with soft expression and strong muzzle. Not quite length of upper arm as winner. Good ribcage. Well made hindquarters. Tailset correct but carried a fraction high on move

3rd Whitham’s Arrifana Athena

Puppy (8,1)

1st Clarke’s Ousevale Tobermory. Absolutely loved him. Excellent overall balance. His head proportions are totally correct, well chiselled beneath the eyes and a soft expression. His forehand construction is copybook - a well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Elbows tight to the brisket. Deep chest. Well ribbed back with short loin. Well made hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Excellent bone with the best of feet. Moved well both fore and aft and with good length of stride when viewed in profile. Excellent coat and condition. BP and delighted to watch him win the Gundog Puppy Group. I shall watch him with interest.

2nd Mortlock’s Garvin Game of Flowers at Hertsmerry. Another quality puppy. Excellent overall balance Good head shape and well chiselled beneath the eyes. Clean neck. Excellent forehand angulation. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Good hindquarters with moderate turn and stifle. Correct bone for her age and well padded feet. Moved well on even stride - winner was just a little more together.

3rd Rose’s Gaytonwood Sparkler. Completed a trio of very promising puppies.

Junior (5/3)

1st Squirrell’s Halebourne First Primrose. Well made all through. Good head with soft expression and correct earset. Clean neck. Well laid shoulder. Deep chest with elbows close to brisket. Well ribbed back. Loin could be fractionally shorter. Well made hindquarters. Moved ok in profile. A little close going away.

2nd Chinnery’s Stradcot Dolly Mixture. Liked her overall shape. Pleasing head with kind expression. Little straight in upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Would have liked to have seen more positive movement. In excellent coat and condition.

Novice (3, 2)

1st Stradcot Dolly Mixture.

Post Graduate (10, 3)

1st Squirrell’s Thornywait Savannah. Workmanklike bitch. Good outline. Well moulded head. Clean neck leading to good lay of shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Level topline. Well ribbed back with short loin and strong hindquarters. Moved well. Coat could be tidier.

2nd Kinchella’s Wynrita Scandalmonger. Well balanced. Pleasing head. Just preferred expression of winner. Good forequarters. Well ribbed back. Strong hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Good driving movement. Excellent coat and condition.

3rd Rainbird’s Nativegold Somos Novios

Open (5, 3)

1st Foreman’s Camestone Field Day at Ambersun. Good overall balance and well made all through. Masculine head with kind expression. Strong neck leading to good lay of shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest with elbows close to brisket. Well ribbed back with short loin and strong hindquarters. Moved with good drive and presented in excellent coat and condition. BOB.  

2nd Clarke’s Ivelwell Imperial Fizz from Ousevale. Beautiful bitch who was sadly not co-operating today! Well balanced all through. Exquisite head with soft expression and well chiselled beneath the eyes. Clean neck. Excellent shoulder and return of upper arm. Well ribbed back with short loin. Strong hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Just wish she had been happier on the move but well deserved her RBOB
