JUDGE: ANNE SUTTON (SHIREPARK)

It was a pleasure to judge Spaniels at Northern Counties Gundog Club. Thank you for the opportunity.

ENGLISH COCKER SPANIELS

Class 1: Puppy (3:1)

First: Barber-Ball's KALISPELL COEUR DE LION (BP) Compact Blue Roan dog. In outline he is short and compact. Masculine head with square muzzle. Well boned straight front legs. Strong body with well developed chest, deep brisket and well sprung ribs. I would prefer a more laid back shoulder. A happy, confident mover.

Second: Rainey's KALISPELL VILLANETTE Blue Roan bitch (litter sister to one) of a type I like. Feminine head with square muzzle, dark tight eye and a gentle expression. Enough bone and straight front legs. She held a level topline, well sprung rib and is short coupled. I would prefer a more laid back shoulder. She moved soundly but was unsettled having been thrown off her stride by a large dog in the vicinity of the ring.

Class 2: Junior (1:0)

First: D and C Yilmaz KYNA TOYAH BATTERSBY (BOB) Blue roan well balanced bitch of a type I like. A merry cocker, full of life with an ever wagging tail. She is compact and sturdy in outline. A lovely head with square muzzle, finely chiselled with defined stop and tight, dark eye. Such a gentle expression. Super forechest and return of upper arm with good depth of brisket and tight at elbow. She has well boned, straight front legs. Tight, neat and well padded feet. Her ribs are well sprung extending well back to a short coupling and wide strong loin. Strong topline held on the move. Pleasing to see her well developed hind quarters and good muscle mass. She came into her own on the move as she drove around the ring with a bustling movement. I was delighted to award her BOB.

Class 3: Post Graduate (3: 1)

First: D and C Yilmaz KYNA TOYAH BATTERSBY (Repeat)

Second: Rainey's COOLEELA RED ADMIRAL Gold dog. Another with a pleasing head. Square muzzle and well developed skull. Tight dark eye. He toed out slightly at the foreleg but had a good return of upper arm. Good ribbing and topline. A little longer in body than (1) but presented a pleasing outline. He moved well with a merry cocker attitude.

Class 4: Cocker Spaniel open (no entries)

IRISH WATER SPANIEL Class 5: Open (2:1)

First: Hackett's CURLYCO MY HOT ROCKSTAR (IMP FIN) (BOB) Male. Pleasing head with skull of good length and width. Muzzle strong, smooth and square with a gradual stop. Well set ears. Almond shaped eye. With a strong neck set on neatly into his sloping shoulder. He has a deep enough chest and well sprung ribs. Strong coupling. Typical dense, tight coat with crisp ringlets. Presented in good condition. He moved well.

ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL Class 6: Post Graduate (1:1) Class 7: Open (1:0)

First: Calvert's CALVDALE HOT PINK JW (BOB) Black and white bitch. She stood alone but was deserving of her first place. She presents a compact and strong outline. I like her head of good proportions, which is fairly deep and square in flew. She has a strong neck and is free from throatiness. Her forelegs are well boned and feet are tight, well rounded with good padding. She has good ribbing and a deep chest with a strong and muscular loin and broad thighs. She moved well.

FIELD SPANIEL

Class 8: Field Spaniel Post Graduate (2:0)

First: Smith's FECIMUS LIVING THE DREAM AT FLYENPYG (BOB) Bitch. A youngster at 13 months deserving of her first placing. With a gentle disposition but not lacking in confidence. Well chiselled head with well defined occiput. She is lean beneath the eyes and has a moderate stop. Muscular neck, set on well laid back shoulder. Good bone. In body she has moderately well sprung ribs with good length, strong and level back held level on the move. I like her overall balance and she has plenty of time to develop further. Good tight feet. She moved well and soundly. I was pleased to award her BOB.

Second: Gill's DIPTONIA GYPSY MOTH Bitch. A pleasing head and eye she has good bone and a muscular neck. She has a well developed chest and moderate ribbing. I much preferred the movement of (1)

Class 9: Field Spaniel Open (3:2)

First: Smith's FECIMUS LIVING THE DREAM AT FLYENPYG (Repeat)

WELSH SPRINGER SPANIEL

Class 12: Welsh Springer Spaniel Junior (1:0)

First: Chandler's CHANANGEL YORKSHIRE ROSE (BPIB) Bitch of 6.5 months. A promising puppy who deserved her BPIB. She has a well proportioned head. Well chiselled below the eyes her muzzle is of medium length and fairly square. Beautiful dark eyes with such a melting expression and no haw showing Correct set on of her vine shaped ears. She is very clean in throat. Her neck is muscular and sits neatly into her sloping shoulders. She has straight forelegs with good bone. Her feet are firm, cat like with good padding. Her ribs are sufficiently well sprung for her age with plenty of time for further development. Her slightly arched loin is muscular. She moved happily. Well-presented and well handled.

Class 14: Welsh Springer Spaniel Open (2:1)

First: Chandler's CHANANGEL MISTLETOE N'WINE JW (BOB) Bitch. I love this bitch. There is so much to like. I was struck by her symmetrical and compact outline which flows with ease from nose to tip of tail. Another with a good head and eye with a skull of proportionate length and well chiselled beneath the eye. She has a long and muscular neck with clean throat set neatly onto her sloping shoulders which are well laid back. Her forelegs are of medium length, straight and well boned. Good feet. She has a strong and muscular body which is in proportion. Good depth of brisket, good ribbing and a strong slightly arched loin and good coupling. She is well muscled all through. She moved with ease, driving around the ring. Delighted to give her BOB.
