Breed: Bull Terrier

It is so pleasing to see CC’s return to this show as it was always a popular event on the Bull Terrier calendar. Despite the low numbers the quality was exceptional. I genuinely feel that the breed continues to progress; good movement is now the norm rather than the exception and mouths have improved to the extent that, on this occasion at least, instanding canines, and undershot bites were a rarity. Someone commented to me after the show that they thought I must be disappointed with the entry but nothing could be further from the truth; judging great dogs is always an honour and a pleasure and whilst big entries may be impressive to the onlooker, its quality not quantity that really counts to a judge.

1st THOMAS’S TAWNBARR HUNTSMAN’S MOON OF CROSSBULLYS

Smart white dog, with red head patch. Very nice nicely made throughout, he has a good strong head with a nice gentle profile. Perfect mouth. Lovely straight front. Good length of neck with a compact body and an excellent short back. He moved with drive but was a little wide both coming and going and I would like to see a shade more bone. Nevertheless, a smart boy who showed very well.

1st DYSON’S TAWNBARR BATTLESTAR

Tall upstanding white dog. Extremely sound and well-made throughout. He has excellent bodylines, with a beautiful neck and well laid shoulder leading into a firm topline. His front is straight with decent bone and good feet. He has good tuck up and excellent well-muscled and well angulated hindquarters. In super fit condition and an excellent showman. A super dog with a lot going for him he just needs a bit more strength of head and profile to complete the picture

2nd NEWMAN’S PINEBULL AT FIRST LIGHT

A dog I have judged before and is a great favorite of mine. White with a small mismark on his tail. Super head, filled right up and packed with power. He has an excellent front, with outstanding round heavy bone with excellent tight feet and elbows that are tucked right in. Teeming with quality he has great spring of rib good bodylines and a lovely deep brisket. When he gets into his stride his movement is exceptional, with long powerful strides and completely parallel both ways. His cross to bear is his mouth; the bite is correct but his canines are misplaced. Were it not for this I could see him going right to the top

Without doubt the class of the day, all 5 present worthy of the title of Champion

1st LAMONBY’S CH. EMRED DIKRAM DEVILS BREW

Well known white dog that has developed from a quality youngster into a super masculine and typy dog of the very highest order. Excellent head, deep and strong with a good profile and a correct mouth. Good strong and powerful neck of good length and excellent front angulation giving him a superb forechest. Teeming with type he has an ultra-short back, a lovely deep brisket and tremendous spring of rib. He is a sound mover both ways and is now at his very best; fully mature, in excellent hard condition, and at the perfect weight with plenty of substance and no fat. A stunning dog straight out of the top draw, that has matured into one of the greats.Delighted to award him the CC and BOB

2nd HALL’S BOBUDDY WARHAMMER AT CWMDULAIS

Another typy dog with the perfect balance of type, quality and soundness. He has a lovely strong head, deep and well filled with a good profile. Well placed ears and eye giving him a great expression. Excellent straight front, with good round bone. Good, well arched neck and a well-placed shoulder. Well balanced bodylines with correct proportions. Still only a youngster, he is a top-quality dog that is still coming into his own but certainly a dog of champion quality, that was unlucky to come up against the winner. It’s a mark of this dog’s quality that he pushed the winner so hard. I feel sure his day will come

1st McDONAGH AND McLEISH’S UKASA INDEPENDENCE DAY AT IRAZISTABULL

Very pretty black/brindle and white bitch. Super head, completely filled up with an excellent profile. Perfect mouth. Well-made throughout with a straight front well shaped body and well bent stifles. Good well shaped body lines but needs to spring in rib and deepen in brisket. Moved with drive, very well when coming but a little close behind. A bitch with lots to like and who shows lots of promise

1st CATALINA’S DOFRO DECEPTACON

Well-made compact bitch of outstanding quality. Beautifully constructed she has a lovely head, deep and string with a good expression and well-placed ears. Her front is straight with enough bone for her size, and good tight cat feet. Her neck is long and flows nicely into a well laid shoulder, and whilst she is a tad long in the loin, her hindquarters are excellent, well angulated and muscular. She is a handful to show, but when stood correctly she is an absolute picture. Still needs to mature, but well deserving of the CC

2nd WELSBY’S TAWNBARR ICE DIAMOND AVEC SHERRYWELLS

Terrier type white bitch with 2 eye patches, she has a lot to like and is full of virtue. Lovely long head with a beautiful profile just a little narrow in foreface. Her ears are well placed, right on top, and she has a well-placed dark eye. Very good front with decent round bone and good feet, just a little upright in shoulder. Excellent depth of brisket wit a lovely underline and good tuck up. Her movement is good both ways, she drove well and was parallel. In super hard condition she is an excellent showgirl and was extremely well handled,

3rd SAUNDER’S UKUSA EXXTRAVAVGANT

1st BUSSON’S BULLYON ABSOLOUTE MEASURE AY COPBULL

Tall and statuesque white bitch of the highest quality. Egg shaped head with a well-shaped eye and good expression. Level bite. Lovely long neck with good front angulation and a well laid shoulder. Decent front with nice round bone. Correct topline with just the right amount of roach. Very well balanced and soundly made she moved quite well. I would prefer a better ear set and she perhaps needs a little more conditioning for the show ring but a lovely elegant bitch of excellent merit, who will trouble the very best. Reserve CC.

2nd WALKER’S UNIONBUL'S MISS SAIGON OF ASTASIA

Compact brindle bitch of completely different type to the winner. Substantial and powerfully made she is very square with a very good filled and turned head and a perfect mouth. Well placed and neat ears Very good expression she has a compact deep body, and a lovely short back. Excellent well sprung ribs and a lovely deep forechest. Moved in one piece and is very sound with a good firm topline which she held well on the move. Shown in excellent condition and handled well.
