Breed: Miniature Pinscher

Midland Counties Canine Society 2019

Miniature Pinscher

A breed I have judged a fair number of times at this level and they are always enjoyable as almost without exception their temperaments are excellent. Not an easy breed as there is a variation in type and movement and compromises do have to be made. I was so impressed with some of the youngsters shown today and it was good to so many young enthusiastic handlers - it bodes well for the future of the breed.

1ST HAWKSFLIGHT CODE BREAKER AT VALETTA (MISS VM DUNN). Compactly made with a short strong sloping top line and bags of confidence. Presents a lovely outline both standing and on the move and his action is most typical with good lift in front. Well ribbed with some depth of chest.

2ND VARDENAIS SAM SPINNER (MISS A A COULL). I admired his good head, lengthy with a flat skull and keen expression. Good forehand with some breadth of chest and good angulation fore and aft. Just a fraction longer in loin than the winner. True and sound both out and back.

1ST DIMOGEN DON'T CHA KNOW (MR & MRS D M GENTLE). Quite sturdy and compact with a good forehand, moderate angulation and decent body. Good topline with well set tail. Very stylish profile action. Pleasing for both size and balance.

2ND KRIEGER'S ELF FANTASTICO (P MCILROY STRACEY). Present a good overall picture with his slightly sloping topline: strong, well angulated quarters and proud bearing. His profile action is pleasing but he was a little untidy coming back to me. Should do well with a little more maturity.

Post Graduate - Dog

1ST EPIPHANY INSIGNIA AT DANTON (MR A SCOURFIELD). Typey and well balanced, he impressed in profile with his typical hackney action and short strong topline. Keen alert expression, some breadth and depth of chest. Shown in gleaming condition and good muscle tone.

2ND BARNFALL GOODTIME GARY (MR C GULLON). Not quite the finish of the winner but he too is pleasing for both size and balance. Very pleasing head properties with a keen expression. God body and rib, slight slope to topline and well set tail. Strong hind quarters, a shade untidy coming back to me but most impressive in profile.

Has some depth and breadth of chest and is well ribbed. Short, strong sloping topline, good tail set. Strong, well muscled hindquarters. He certainly impressed me both standing and moving.

2ND DARKISS SMOKIN ACES (MRS D BANTON). A beautifully schooled, handsome dog, typey and well balanced. Decent fore chest with depth of brisket and strong short loin. Like the winner he is true and precise on the move.

3RD CH VARDENAIS LUMOS (MRS C PARKER)

1ST CH SHETOPA KING OF ARABIA JW SHCM (MR T MRS J SHEPHERD). An old friend, I gave him BOB at LKA in 2011 and I still think he is a top quality Miniature Pinscher. A seasoned showman and very sound and accurate mover. Shown in good muscle tone and gleaming condition. Reserve CC.

2ND CH VALETTA ALEXANDER JW (MISS VM DUNN). Another high class exhibit, a fraction smaller that the winner and beautifully balanced. Compact and short coupled with a strong, sloping topline and good angulation. Impresses on the move.

Minor Puppy - Bitch

This was a good class and I wrote in my notes that both 1st and 2nd were of CC quality.

1ST PINICIO WRAPPED IN RED (MR D & MRS S SANTORIELLO). The absolute star of the day, I could happily have brought her home with me! Just 10 months old and has all the confidence and self-possession in the world! Head of good length with a flat skull and keen dark eye. Excellent neck and shoulders, decent breadth and depth of chest. Excellent topline, tailset and carriage. Strong well angulated hindquarters. Very attentive to her handler but still with some animation and character. Moved beautifully and my eye was drawn to her each time I looked around the ring. After giving the Reserve dog CC to an 11 year old I truly thought she was outstanding and so the CC & BOB went to this youngster. It does speak volumes for the breed that all age ranges are capable of winning at top level. I was delighted to see that Mrs Sidgwick shortlisted her in a strong Toy Group.

2ND KELJANTZI'S ZELDA TO MAYNELL (MR D & MRS C SCOTT). A very classy youngster who with ordinary luck could finish at the top. Typey and well balanced with a lovely head and expression. Some depth of brisket, well ribbed and excellent topline and tailset. True and accurate on the move.

3RD KELJANTZI'S ZIGGY (MR J OAKLEY)

Post Graduate - Bitch

1ST KRIEGERS EYE CANDY WITH DARKISS (MRS D BANTON). Yet another lovely puppy. Assured and confident with some elegance and beautifully balanced. Pleasing head, good neck and shoulders, decent forechest. Short, sloping topline, nicely angulated quarters. Moved soundly.

2ND RAYJEN YUM YUM (MRS J PARK). Smart and present a very pleasing outline both standing and moving. Attractive head and expression, good forehand. Well ribbed and moved out well.

3RD KELJANTZI'S ZAHEERA (MR C & MRS R WILKINSON)

Limit - Bitch

1ST VALETTA CLEOPATRA (MISS VM DUNN). Quite typey and well balanced with good body and rib. Feminine head and expression. Decent forehand with some forechest and sturdy well ribbed body. Moves well both out and back. A tad more neck would enhance the overall picture.

2ND MONARKLE FIRE N'ICE AT TEFFYS (MRS S TWIGG). Pleasing to handle but less mature in body than the winner. Stylish and quite elegant wth a pleasing eye and keen expression.

3RD TUBIZE MACY AT MANDOLAIS (MISS D WHETTER)

Open - Bitch

A fabulous class containing five Champions and two other top quality bitches.

1ST CH KRIEGER'S DARK 'N' DELICIOUS JW SHCM SHCEX (MISS R STRACEY). A lovely bitch I have admired in the past at Group level and she has so much to commend her. Her movement is exemplary. Lovely head and expression, good forehand with some depth and breadth of chest and good ribbing. Excellent topline and tailset. Shown in gleaming condition and good muscle tone. In the challenge, I was drawn to the animation and spirit of the puppy so she had to be content with the Reserve CC today.

2ND CH TUBIZE MANHATTAN BY PINICIO JW SHCM (MR D, MRS S & MISS J SANTORIELLO & SKELTON). Perhaps a little more elegant than the winner and she too is beautifully balanced and typey. Compactly made with good ribs and strong, sloping topline. Sympathetically handled to best advantage.

3RD CH VARDENAIS MISCHIEF MANAGED JW (MISS A A COULL)

Veteran - Bitch

1ST KEEHOO BUBBLEGUM AT MANDOLAIS (MISS D WHETTER). A smashing showgirl who obviously enjoyed her day out. Pleasing, feminine head and expression, nicely arched neck and excellent topline and tailset. Very good profile action.
