Gundog Group 

Thanks to the Officers and Committee of Midland Counties for their invitation to judge the Gundog Group.  I thought it was a high-quality group.  The lovely Weimaraner, Ch Sireva Skype JW sportingly did a lap of honour before the Group judging began as her co-owner and breeder Mrs Simpson is a fellow KC Board member.  

The winner was Amos-Jones’ Spaniel (Cocker), Sh Ch Veratey Vincenzo at Cassom JW.  A dog I have admired since I first judged him as a puppy.  Grand head and expression, clean neck and good shoulders. Lovely ribbing with good depth of brisket.  His action is true and typical and his great temperament was evident for all to see.   

Runner up to the Cocker was O’Neill’s Pointer, Sh Ch Chesterhope Thrill of the Chase.  A real class act with his good head proportions, wide open nostrils and nicely arched neck.  Good bone and nicely padded feet.  Good depth of brisket, short coupled and ribbed well-back.  His movement is fluid and easy with plenty of drive from the rear. In third place was Crocker’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch Copper’s War of Roses.  A real eye-catcher, nicely balanced with a real air of quality.  Very pleasing head with a kind expression.  Clean neck and well laid shoulders.  Deep chest and good ribbing with a strong short loin.  Well muscled and this was reflected in his very good movement.       

Finally, in fourth place was Pastusiak’s Retriever (Golden), Prince Charming Qdore of Labgold.  Beautifully balanced with good length of leg.  Masculine yet with a really kind, gentle expression which iss enhanced by his good pigmentation.  Excellent forehand with good bone and tight, round feet.  Strong, well muscled hindquarters.  Short from hcok to heel.  Most impressive on the move.   

I also shortlisted Harris’ G.S.P. Sh Ch Barleyarch Pringle JW. McCullough’s G.W.P. Sh Ch/Deutscher Ch (VDH) Kimmax Kurious George BS’17 BS’18.  Shelley & Lutner’s Retriever (Flat Coated), Telurn Come Fly With Me to Rivage, Bailiss’ Retriever (Labrador), Sh Ch Tissalian Hi-Jack JW and Davies & Margerison’s Spaniel (Irish Water), Sh Ch Kandrelli Jack Snipe.
