Border Union Agricultural Society

Breed: Champion Stakes

Champion Stakes – Dog or Bitch

Day 1: Gundog, Hound and Terrier

1:  CH BELLEVILLE MAJOR KEY Breed: Norfolk Terrier (MRS C S THOMPSON-MORGAN). Not easy to combine bone and good substance in a small package but this youngster does.  Good breadth of skull, and neat, well carried ears.  Strong, straight legs, well laid shoulders.  Excellent body with good spring of rib and very short coupled.  A keen alert showman presented in a great jacket and moved out well with some purpose.

2:  SH CH CHESTERHOPE THRILL OF TCHASE (IMP NZ) Breed: Pointer (MRS D & MISS J O'NEILL).  Oozes quality and style, excellent forehand with good bone, legs and feet.  Good depth of brisket. Ribbed well back with short strong loin.  Moved out well with some drive from the rear.

3: AM CH/IR CH/SH CH SILHOUETTE TROUBLING NASAILLEEN WITH MYCALLEYS Breed: Spaniel (American Cocker) (MISS L, MRS L & MRS B BRYANT, NELSON & MORRIS)

Champion Stakes - Dog or Bitch

Day 2: Working, Pastoral, Utility and Toy

Probably one of the best classes I’ve had the pleasure of judging containing a number of dogs to whom I’ve awarded Challenge Certificates or Group placings.

1:  CH SANDAURI SHOWSTOPPER FOR KUTANI (IMP RUS) Breed: Lhasa Apso (MRS W CAIN).  I judged him a week ago at Three Counties when he topped a high quality entry of the breed.  What I wrote about him then is still pertinent; “A most impressive exhibit shown in full heavy coat which was perfectly presented.  However, underneath the coat he is very satisfying to handle with his good forehand, excellent body and length of rib and nicely arched neck.  Masculine yet pretty head of correct proportions.  On the move, he had the jaunty arrogant action which is so typical of the breed. “

2:  CH CHELMBULL THE AVIATOR Breed: French Bulldog (MR D & MISS A, MR A & MRS L CUND & HARROP).  My BOB winner at Blackpool last year and he too is right out of the top drawer.  Cobby and compact, he presents an excellent outline.  Lovely head and expression with a nicely cushioned muzzle.  Unexaggerated, his movement is first class and he was shown and presented to best advantage.

3:  CH TOM BOMBADIL OF POLIARINE ARKTIKA AT COLDASICE (IMP LTU) JW SHCM Breed: Siberian Husky (MR M PATRICK)
