GOLDEN RETRIEVER DOGS 

Despite a not too promising weather forecast leading up to the day of the show it stayed dry and sunny all day. I was delighted to award the limit dog winner his third and crowning CC. 

My first CC appointment in 2003 was dogs at National Gundog and this appointment was my final time awarding CC’s in our lovely breed. 

 I must say a huge thank you to the best stewarding team around, Barbara Gentleman and Di Rourke-Knight who kept everything flowing all day. 

I was very disappointed to find 4 dogs with level bites and still far too many dogs moving close behind, I allowed some leeway on this in the younger classes as with age and increased exercise this can often improve but sadly there are still older dogs who are still exhibiting this fault.  

I also was concerned that the trend towards shorter legs appears to be creeping back in. The first line in our breed standard reads “General Appearance”.  ‘Symmetrical, balanced’ and I feel that breeders need to keep this in mind when planning a litter. 

On a positive note temperament was superb, I did not have one exhibit who was not happy to be gone over. 

VETERAN DOG (7 Entries, 1 Absent)  

1ST McCormack Miss S SH CH FLYNGALEE ALONSO. Lovely head and expression with dark pigment, clean neck and straight legs, good front angulation and a balanced body. Excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks, level topline and correct tail set, moving well on tight feet and in lovely coat and condition. 

2ND Maynard Mr RC & Mrs LJE CH NAPOLEON UBER DEN WOLKEN TO CHINNORDALE (IMP DEU). Pleasant head with gentle expression, good pigment and ears well set. Lovely length of neck, straight front, shoulders well laid back and good upper arm with tight elbows. Balanced powerful body, excellent bend of stifle, straight hocks and tight feet, level topline and well set on tail, moving well, in hard condition but not in as good coat as first.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (10 Entries, 0 Absent)  

1ST Kevan Ms E MOLOKO WALLACE THE BRAVE. Super head and expression with excellent pigment and ears well set, long clean neck flowing into excellent front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and tight feet. Correct body proportions for age, excellent bend of stifle with straight hocks, level topline and correct tail set, moved very well for one so young, in lovely gleaming coat and super condition. BPD  

2ND Trinder Mr A THORNYWAIT SHOWSTOPPER. Pleasing head with dark pigment, ears well set, good length of neck, excellent layback of shoulder and good upper arm and tight elbows. Excellent bend of stifle and tight feet, level topline and good tail set, presented in lovely coat and well handled.  A little short in leg and not as accurate in rear movement but he has time on his side for this to hopefully improve.

2ND Loverock Mrs MC & Waldron-Smith Mrs L THORNYWAIT SPACE COWBOY AT LOVISSA. Nice head with dark eye and gentle expression and ears well set. Clean neck flowing into good front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and lovely tight feet. A little longer in body than 1 but still balanced, level topline and good tail set, excellent bend of stifle, moved true in front but just needs to tighten up in rear movement. Beautifully presented and nicely handled.

1ST Widebeck Mrs L COMBINE BYLINE [ATC SWE] Super head and expression with very dark pigment and well set on ears. Excellent length of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders with good length of upper arm, tight in elbow, straight legs and lovely cat like feet. Well proportioned body, level topline and good tail set, excellent rear angulation with short straight hocks. In lovely coat and hard condition and one of the best movers of the day, he should have a very bright future ahead of him.

2ND Price Mrs AJE KADAKA KROSSWORD FOR PALTON. Pleasing head and expression with dark pigment and good ear set. Good length of neck, excellent lay back and good length of upper arm, straight legs and tight feet. Excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks, level topline and good tail set, would like to see a little more enthusiasm in movement. Presented in lovely coat and condition.

1ST Vicars Mrs M & Miss CJ CATCOMBE CALICO AT PEERSBROOK JW. Nice head and expression with dark eye and well set ears. Good length of neck flowing into excellent front angulation, straight legs and tight elbows. Balanced body, excellent bend of stifle, straight hocks and neat feet. Level topline and good tail set, moved with drive and enthusiasm, nicely presented and well handled. With the agreement of my co judge he was Best Special Beginner and I was delighted to hear that he was later awarded Special Beginner Group 2. 

2ND Jackson Mrs A TERRA DI SIENA LORENZO AT SWANAVON (IMP ESP) JW. Nice head and expression, dark eye and good ear set. Good neck, layback and upper arm, straight legs and lovely tight feet. Good body proportions, level topline and good tail set, excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks, moved well. Well presented in good condition and nicely handled.

Clean neck flowing into excellent front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and cat like feet. Correct body proportions, level topline, good tail set, excellent bend of stifle, short straight hocks, moved out with drive. In super coat and condition and beautifully presented. 

2ND Vernon Mr MP & Mrs DJ GRACELEIGH POPEYE. Lovely head and gentle expression with dark eyes ad good ear set. Good length of neck, excellent lay back and good upper arm, straight legs and nice tight feet. A little longer in body than 1, excellent rear angulation and straight hocks. Level topline and good tail set moved well but tended to fly his tail a little on the move. In lovely condition, just needed a little more feathering to finish him off.

1ST Randall Mr & Mrs NJ KELVERQUEST PORTLAND BILL JW. This lad caught my eye immediately and I was not disappointed when going over him. Lovely head and expression with dark pigment and good ear set. Excellent length of neck flowing into excellent front angulation, tight elbows and straight legs. Balanced in body with excellent bend of stifle, straight hocks and cat like feet. Level topline and correct tail set. In good coat and lovely hard condition which enabled him to move with drive and accuracy, presented and handled to bring out the best in him, one who’s progress I will watch. 

2ND Coulstock Mr TJ & Mrs A & Williams Mrs LJ CWMTAFF JACK THE LAD AT PANTEGEPARISH. Nice head and expression with good pigment and ears well set. Clean neck flowing into very good lay back of shoulder and good length of upper arm. A little longer in body than 1, very good rear angulation and straight hocks, level topline and good tail set, moved well on tight feet, in lovely coat and condition.

2ND Angell Ms BA MILLANZA TOY STORY JW. Nice head with gentle expression and lovely dark eye and correct ear set. Good length of neck, excellent lay back and upper arm, tight elbows, straight legs and very tight neat feet. Short coupled body, excellent rear angulation and straight short hocks. Level topline and correct tail set moved out very well. Beautifully presented coat but for me just carrying a tad too much weight.

Clean neck flowing into excellent front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and tight feet. Good body proportions, level topline with correct tail set. Excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks, moved with drive and accuracy. In good coat and super condition. 

2ND Jackson-Haines Mrs J ANGUSKYE RUN TO YOU BY LEIGHSHAM JW Super head and expression with dark eyes and well set on ears. Excellent length of neck, very good front angulation, tight elbows and straight legs. Well proportioned body, level topline, and a well set on tail that barely stopped wagging. Excellent rear angulation, straight hocks and tight feet. Moved well and presented in lovely coat and condition.  

3RD Swatton Mrs AB & Mr GM SUNTIDE EXCEEDINGLY GOOD JW

1ST Loach Miss SA & Zubair Mrs SM THORNYWAIT ROSSINI JW Super head and expression with dark pigment and well set on neat ears. Good length of neck flowing into excellent front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and cat like feet. Short coupled body, level topline, correct tail set and short straight hocks. Presented in super coat that was gleaming in the sunshine, in tip top condition and moving effortlessly around the ring. I have admired him many times from the ringside and was not disappointed when I laid hands on him. Delighted to give him the CC, which, with KC confirmation gives him his Sh Ch title. 

2ND Loverock Mrs MC & Waldron-Smith Mrs L LOVISSA SPACE DUST ShCM. Another I have admired from the ringside on many occasions, a super balanced dog with the most gorgeous head and expression, dark eyes and correct ear set. Lovely clean neck, excellent lay back of shoulder and upper arm, tight elbows, straight legs and very tight feet. Slightly longer cast than 1, level topline, correct tail set excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks. Beautifully handled and presented in full gleaming coat and firm condition. This boy has fantastic movement and would have pushed the winner even harder if he would just be a little less proud of his tail, despite this I could not deny him the Res CC. 

3RD Wedge Mrs L RIVERSCHARM MR MCGREGOR JW

1ST Saarniit Miss M & Mrs K SH CH/INT CH/MULTI CH LINIRGOR PIED PIPER AT MEIEPERE. Lovely head and expression with dark eyes and good ear set. Excellent length of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders with good length of upper arm, tight elbows, straight legs and very tight feet. Good body proportions, level topline, well set tail, excellent rear angulation and straight hocks. Presented in super coat and condition and moving effortlessly around the ring, totally at one with his handler. 

2ND Cuthill Miss I SH CH MOUSSEGLEN MACLAINE (AI) JW. Super head with kindly expression, dark eyes and good ear set. Good neck and lay back, excellent length of upper arm, straight legs, tight elbows and neat feet. Compact short coupled body, level topline and correct tail set, excellent bend of stifle and straight hocks. Presented in good coat and hard condition, moved out very well.

Moved very well, presented in good coat and hard condition. 

2ND Archer Miss P HAYDENGOLD ROCK STAR AT SUNANDAIR JW. Nice head with dark eyes and well set on ears. Good length of neck and front angulation, tight elbows, straight legs and neat feet. Short coupled body, level topline, well set waggy tail good bend off stifle and straight hocks. Moved well and very well presented and in firm condition.
