National Gundog Association

I would like to thank National Gundog Association for their hospitality and invitation to judge Irish Setter bitches at this show.  My Stewards on the day were also excellent, thank you.

Also many thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their girls in such wonderful condition, presentation on the whole was excellent and my hands were spotless at the end of the day.  I know it’s been said before but I was truly spoiled for choice in many classes and many decisions were very close.

Beautifully balanced, presented in fabulous condition.  Nice head with correct eye shape, good finish to muzzle all framed by a lovely grey face. Straight front, gently sloping toppling leading to good tailset.  Well bent stifle with good width of thigh.  Moved very well.

Upstanding puppy with a lovely head, showing enough stop.  Good length and arched neck. Adequate return of upper arm, firm topline and good tailset,  needs to drop into quarters which will give her a more gently sloping topline.  Moved well.

Very well balanced puppy who excelled on the move.  Nice dark coat.  Another with a good return of upper arm and straight front and good depth of chest, well ribbed back. Muscular neck of good length leading to gently sloping, firm topline. She is well off for bone and has good width of thigh, neat feet.

Slightly taller bitch but still balanced.  Pleasant head with low set ears. Good forehand and enough bend of stifle, well set on tail. Neat feet.  Good coat and colour.  Scored here on movement.

Lovely shape.  Good length of neck, sloping topline, well angled front and rear. Short from hock to heel.  Correct tailset.  Just wasn’t quite at one with her handler on the move today.

Another lovely balanced girl.  Pretty head but I would prefer a little more width to her muzzle.  Nice dark eye.  Well ribbed back, good depth of chest. Gently sloping topline and good tailset. Excellent bend of stifle neat feet.  Moved well.  Wouldn’t like to see her with any more weight.
